so often people are claiming this religion, claiming this book, and they're not actually reading it.

And so I want to be someone who's like, okay, let's sit down and let's really think about this.

The imperative

Now let's think about how this aligns with what we know about God.

You know, we know that God is love and God loves all people and he formed you in your mother's womb and he has a plan for you.

But we also know that in this story, he regretted making all humans and decided he wanted to drown them all in a worldwide flood.

And so when you can sit down and you can kind of present that and then give the viewer the opportunity to question that, to sit back and question it, I think that's really important.

And that's really been my goal all along is not to tell people what to believe.

I'm not here to tell people why it's wrong, but I am here to share why I think it doesn't add up.

And I don't think enough people think about those things.

Now, some people might think about them and then they're given like some apologetic argument.

Oh, well, God works in mysterious ways or, you know, God, he does what he, you just can't understand it.

And that's a really kind of difficult point to get to.

Because if you believe in this God and he works in mysterious ways, well, you know, that's just is what it is.

But I really encourage people to think more critically about that, to use the brain that if this God exists, he gave them.

And, you know, if God gave you a brain, if God gave you the ability to think critically, to scrutinize your surroundings, does this God want you to be aware of what you're believing, of what you're reading?

Does he want you to question things people tell you?

And if so, then there should be no problem with sitting down, reading through the book at face value.

And the reason I do that is because it makes a point about this being the word of God, the divine word of God, accessible to all people.

And then I ask a lot of questions that I think enough people aren't asking.

That's really just been kind of my goal all along is to put videos out that challenge all of the things that we were taught to believe, that we were made to believe, and to give people the opportunity and the space to actually question it and maybe not leave it, maybe not abandon it all, but to just think through these things.

It is sad that whether it is actually laid out in scripture, which I think it is, or whether it's just the abuse of the church for control, that people have been essentially told not to think too deeply about these things, not to read too far, to trust authority figures who have the better doctrinal understanding, who have the background in Greek or Hebrew, which again, like the standards are so unfair.

Like I can go on and talk about a verse and someone will be like, you don't get to say anything, you don't know Hebrew.

And it's like, neither does your pastor or your Bible study leader.

Like if we're gonna hold everyone to a certain standard, there's gonna be 10 people that can talk about this Bible.

But it is sad that so many people don't read their Bibles and they're essentially told not to think.

Why do you think it is, aside from like the indoctrination that says don't, why do you think people that actually believe that this God is real and he wrote a book for us or a collection of books essentially, or inspired, or at least these are accounts about him, why do you think people don't read that?

I think Christianity is just so cultural.

People trust their parents, they trust their family, they trust their pastor.

They assume that when they go to church and their pastor tells them something about God, that it's gonna be true because he's a man of God and God is speaking through him and everyone else you love and trust believes this too.

And so I think it's just that people trust those that are giving them this information.

And I think sometimes people do ask questions, but then they're told by the people they trust not to ask questions.

And so they get into the habit of, or maybe they don't develop the habit of critical thinking, right?

I think critical thinking is something that has to be taught or learned and then you have to practice it.

Even those that are really trying hard to think through things, we're going to fall victim to beliefs that aren't true.

We might see something on the internet that we believe and find out later it's not true.

So we all are only operating from what we know and we're all trying our best, I think.

And so I think those people, they just assume that the information they're given is true.

And I think a lot of people aren't that serious about their faith.

And I hate to say that because I know I get pushed back when I say things like that, but there's a lot of people that just, they're like, this is my reality, God exists.

And I know that I'm supposed to do what the church says.

I'm supposed to love God and believe in him and be a Christian.

And that's good enough for me because I'm saved.

And so I think a lot of people just get complacent in that.

And I also think that people do have questions and they realize that if they keep pressing those questions, they might uncover some information that would shift their perspective.

And I think that's uncomfortable for a lot of people.

Maybe it's like subconscious or a type of maybe almost like a survival technique within them that's like, they don't want to go through the process of having to dismantle and question everything they believed in.

So they're just going to keep on the path that they're on and they're not going to ask too many questions because that's uncomfortable.

It's uncomfortable to be faced with the fact that everything you believe might not be true.

And some people just don't want to face that.

I think it does come down to fear is a huge one.

Or like you said, and again, I already feel the pushback.

The reactions that I get when I say this kind of thing.

You hear the responses as you're talking, right?

Yeah, like you don't want to tell someone they're not serious about their faith, but it's like, if your significant other wrote a book and it was long, 800,000 words, same length as the Bible, I can't imagine a world where you don't read their book.

And yet the creator of the universe who supposedly loves you that you claim you have a personal relationship with that you say you're willing to die for, you've read four chapters, six books, like whatever it is, the fact you haven't like, you don't read this, like it always blew my mind.

There were definitely times where I was like, oh, I don't need that.

You're like, oh, the Old Testament is just pointing Jesus.

Here's how Paul is telling me to interact in the church.

And you make a bunch of excuses, but it does always baffle me that there is this other side of it where some of the most extreme people, people that I know tomorrow would like sign up to be martyred for this religion.

Or I think about like people like my mom, who for all of her faults has dedicated the last 40 years of her life as a missionary, as a missions director, making very little money, not living well off and she's not benefiting from this at all.

You know, it's like, how can you be this confident with such little backing or information?

And the other answer there, I think, is that people think Jesus is having a relationship with them personally.

So when they pray, they're hearing something and that's gonna be personal.

That's so much better than reading Ecclesiastes.

So I think there's a lot of reasons, but yeah, it's interesting.

I think one that you brought up that is especially big is there's a lot of people that I think know if they look too deep, they're going to get themselves in a pickle to say the very least.

Yeah, they don't wanna bring up all of these questions because it's opening up a can of worms.

And once you flip the light on, you can't flip it back off.

Like once you see it, you can't unsee it.

And I think deep down, some people know that and they don't want to open themselves up to that possibility of becoming like me.

You know, the angry atheist on YouTube who's just mad and bitter and lives a miserable life without God.
