The imperative

I am Jennifer Tarle with Tarle speech with your two for Tuesday pronunciation lesson.

These words have two spellings, two meanings, but only one pronunciation.

Our words today are core, which is the central or most important part of something, and core, yes it's pronounced core, which is a group of people working together, especially in the military or on specialized teams.

So the spelling here throws a lot of people, but these are pronounced exactly the same way, with basically two sounds and or.

I wrote this with two letters, but it is one sound.

So to start we're going to say that K sound, tip of the tongue is low, back of the tongue is pulled high up, air puffs out of the mouth.

You're going to pucker, and then you are going to pull the lips back into a square tense shape, or.

For many people that's all that you need to think about, but if it still sounds funny, think about your tongue too.

For the or, what's happening is my tongue is flat for that O when I'm puckered.

Then when I move smoothly to that R sound, the back of my tongue pulls up high, my tip of my tongue goes low in the mouth.

Some people flip the tip of the tongue back, either is fine, but the key is to pull the back up and to not touch the teeth with the tip of the tongue.

Core, core, core, core, core, core, core, core, core.
