Today we are doing a review of our stay here in San Diego at the AC Hotel San Diego in Gaslamp.

We've been to San Diego like several times. Candy actually used to live here.

But we've never actually checked out the Gaslamp district, so we kind of wanted to explore it a little bit more this time. So we decided to stay at this hotel, at the AC Hotel. So just wanted to give you like an overview of our stay and also a tour of our room.

The location is excellent because if you want to be in Gaslamp, it's right in the middle of everything. So all the bars, restaurants, like Lively Music, you'll find everything here within walking distance. And then also if you want to go to the museum, the ship museum, I forget what it's called, USS Midway, which we did. It's only like, you know, a mile away. So you can walk there, which is like a 20-minute walk, or you could take an Uber like we did because we're lazy.

And plus, you know me, we're walking all day anyway, so we thought we'd save our energy and take an Uber there. But it is known for its nightlife, so because it's so famous for that, the streets do get blocked off just for pedestrians. But they do have, you know, easy parking here where it's just like to the, like right around the corner. Because we got in when the street was already closed, it was really easy to find the valet parking. And only valet parking is available. You can find your own parking in a garage nearby, but I definitely wouldn't recommend that because it's pretty difficult around here. Yeah, especially if you have a lot of luggage.

Yeah. It's just easier just to use valet and then walk around the corner to your hotel.

Yeah, we found like plenty of eateries nearby, lots of awesome rooftops with great views. One of our favorite places was, what was it, Rustic something? Rustic Roots. Yeah. We're pleasantly surprised because we weren't really expecting much from comfort food. But yeah, I think our favorite was like this corn latage type of thing. So this hotel actually has a rooftop as well, which we went up to. We went during the day for a little bit, but nothing is actually open. So they have like two bar locations, but it's more open at night because it's a techno, uh, what do they call it? Techo Besso or something like that. But it's like a dance club at night. Yeah. So they gear it more towards like the nightly crowd. Not really the daytime. So yeah, the bar was like, again, it was a nice view. Nice view, like okay drinks. It was a Thursday night, so it wasn't that loud yet. I think on the weekends when they have like the light DJs and stuff, so expect it to be more loud and lively. I feel like that cool, but we like more of like the quiet vibe. So Thursday was perfect for us. Check-in time is usually what, like three or four? I think it's four o'clock.

Yeah. But we arrived around 2 p.m. and they were able to get us a room. We got a room with two, was this queen size beds? And they said that all the rooms were the same size. Yeah, because I do have gold status with my Marriott Bonvoy points. So when I asked for upgrade here, they were like, well we would, but all of our rooms are the same size. You could probably upgrade your view though, because our view is terrible. Horrible view. Basically a rooftop with like all these wires everywhere, and this morning we saw some maintenance man like right in front of our window. It's just like, oh hey. But you know what? I think if you're staying here on the weekend, maybe it's better on this side, because if you're on the street side, I bet it's pretty loud, because there is no soundproofing in this. I mean, I can hear the person next door talking when we're putting on our makeup this morning. You hear people going up and down the hallways. But it's a weekday, so it's very light traffic. But I can only imagine on party days, it's probably pretty loud, which they do have this blockout sound. They do make it aware like, hey it might get a little bit noisy. So just keep that in mind if you're someone that is a light sleeper. I want to note one little thing that we saw last night as we were coming up to our room. They have like this the socket of lavender with like these little bags where you can put lavender in it. They had already some dried lavender, and so you can take it up with you to, you know, put it on your bed because lavender helps you sleep. But I like to keep those too, because you could put it in your suitcase and make your suitcase smell good. That's what I did. Yeah, that's what I did too. So I thought that was a really nice touch. I haven't seen that at a hotel before, so that was really cool that they did that. Yeah, and you can't miss it because they put it, there's only one elevator to go up here, and so they put it right in front of the elevator. So we're at first like, is this free? It's like, it has to be free. I'm like, it's free. All right, so I'm gonna do the room tour.

So first off, let me just show you how bad our view is out here.

And we have a really nice workstation. Actually, this whole wall is a great setup because we utilize all of this space. Crystal used this when she had to do a little bit of work, and then we've laid out all of our luggage here. I love it when hotels, instead of using luggage racks, they have like these type of tables that are, you know, up off the floor, because it makes it so much easier to like go through your stuff. Because I don't ever take out my stuff and like put it in drawers and hang them up, especially for a short trip. Outlets where we were able to plug our laptop and our devices. They have USB outlets as well, a light here, and there's the two queen-size beds. That's our little sister. She's watching TV right now. Wave. Hi. Again, like it was, it was comfy. I liked the comforter. We had two options for pillows, you know, what is it, like stiff? Is it called stiff? Or like fluffy and soft? Firm. Yeah, firm. Firm and soft.

So I had two choices, and then there are reading lights, a night light, USB ports, outlets, the phone there, and then this is the noise cancellation or white noise machine, and also there are earplugs here if you do need it. But like I said, we were here on the weekday, and because of the location of our room, we didn't need any, we didn't need to use this, or we didn't need any earplugs. We got this thanks for staying us with us, thanks for staying with us card. It was bent up like this when we got it, so maybe it just keeps getting reused. And then over here is a nice little reading nook. You can get extra light right there. We did use this table a lot to place our stuff. I think I sat down here a few times to like, you know, look at my phone, but most of the time it's just kind of like had luggage here. And then here is the coat rack slash mini closet and everything else. So there is the safe, digital safe. We did, you know, hang up our coats here. There is an iron here and an ironing board. I think they need to get a new ironing board because the other side was pretty ripped up. And then there is a coffee and tea station, which we did have like the coffee and tea, and they gave you to go like coffee cups.

And then of course the ice bucket. I really like this refrigerator. I love that it's like you can see through it because a lot of times that's what we forget is to take stuff out of the refrigerator after our trip. But this is like right there. It's not hidden and you can see it right away when you leave. Like, oh there's like, I left food. Like right now I have like food in there. And they did provide two free like tiny bottles of water that was complimentary. And then the next day when we got room service, they gave us more. We were able to replenish our water. And then the drawers down there, they're empty. There's, um, there's nothing in there. And then last but not least, kind of, um,

I guess it's a little bit roomy here, but there is a full-length mirror. I always appreciate hotel that they give you a full-length mirror right by the door before you head out so you can, uh, make sure you look okay. Now I am gonna have Crystal do the bathroom. So here's the bathroom.

It's actually pretty spacious and it's really bright. I love these lights here where they have that, you know, effect of lighting the entire frame because it gives you better lighting. You can see like more when you put on your makeup. It's more, uh, you can see all the details basically. So I did,

I did like this a lot. Plus it's wide, which I like too. So we could even have the three of us lined up here and doing our makeup, our hair. Of course it was like mostly like the two of us and then sometimes I would come in here and like, you know, do a little bit in the back. But yeah, plenty of space for two to three people. Um, and lots of space to put all your toiletries too. So, you know,

Candy or Cindy had this that side and then the other two had this side. So lots of space. Oh, we did get this in the beginning where it says, uh, your choice hang up your towel if you plan to reuse it or simply leave it on the floor if you would like a replacement. We didn't want room service, so when the room service lady stopped by, she asked if we needed anything and we just needed some extra towels. So we just traded. We gave her the dirty towels and she gave us new towels.

So yeah, they're around and if you want, you know, replacements of anything, they'll give you anything you want. Um, cause we asked for extra bottles of water and they gave us some water as well. Plenty of towels. They give you like four towels when we checked in, four big towels. Over here is the toilet. It is like pretty cool looking. It's very modern and everything, but as you can see the lid up there, the toilet at the top of the toilet, it's a little, you know, crooked and so it's not adjusted correctly and they need to just tighten that or fix that because it was kind of annoying to like sit on there and like have it move all the time. They did have, um, extra toilet paper in the back over there, which we use. So we use two rolls of toilet paper. Hair dryer here worked pretty well. A couple of outlets there. Actually, this is really nice. They had outlets on both sides of this counter and two at that. So each side had two outlets and I like also how they position these outlets too so that, you know, you can actually use two devices and not get each other's way. So here's the shower and you know, it's like a sliding door thing. So they provide bath soap, conditioner and shampoo. And so this is nice too because like, you know, all you have to do is just like get your amount that you want and you don't have to waste any like little bottles. The shower was okay. They do have an option where you can use the rain shower head or the handheld shower head. We always opt to use just the handheld. The only thing was that the pressure was kind of weak to me. I'm not the type that complains about pressure, but this one was pretty weak and I think it's because they're splitting it between the rain shower and the handheld. Although we have certain hotels that have this type of shower too, it just felt like the pressure wasn't, you know, strong enough, especially for a hotel. It was pretty weak. So that was my only complaint about this shower was I wish the shower was a little bit stronger, but the temperature was just fine. It warmed up super quick and, you know, I got it as hot as I wanted it to. So yeah, so that's the bathroom. That was the room tour. Overall, I think it was a pretty good stay. Yeah, but I slept in the night. Oh, and the curtains are blackout, so like we really didn't get any light in here. So we slept really well and like I said, we stayed here during the week, so we didn't really get a lot of like the outside noise, so that was nice. I slept really well. The beds were really comfortable. They provide plenty of pillows. Didn't have to like use like the blockout sound machine that they have. I feel like I've been to other hotels where the staff was a little bit more friendly. Also, one of the staff members had no idea what was going on when I asked about the rooftop bar. She gave me wrong information. She didn't even know it was open, so that was a little bit funny. So yeah, it's kind of, I feel like the service here is like mixed, I would say. Like not like superb, but not horrible. Yeah, it was okay. Yeah, it was okay. So there was three of us that stayed in this room. Our little sister came with us and it was actually, you know, it's a small room, but it was enough to accommodate the three of us. Like we didn't feel like it was too crowded or anything. Yeah. We had plenty of space for our luggage. The bathroom is actually, you know, pretty spacious, especially the counter area, so that was really nice.

So yeah, even though it's like a smaller room, because like downtown, you know, downtown hotels like have smaller spaces, but it was plenty of room for us. If you're looking for a place to stay in Gasland, I would recommend this hotel because I think it's in a great location.
