But what I can do is make sure I don't make the same mistake with my parents.

Both of my parents are still alive, educated, successful, and full of experiences I haven't taken the time to truly understand.

And sometimes, they complain that we speak too much English at home.

I used to brush that off, but now I'm starting to wonder.

Could our constant disagreements about faith, culture, politics, and even mental health have less to do with the topics themselves, and more to do with the fact that I'm having these conversations in English instead of the language they grew up with but were faced to abandon because of me?

I'm starting to ask myself, what depth of relationship bonding and life lessons am I The language that feels most natural and familiar to them.
