Have you ever wondered whether you're supposed to feel sexual attraction or felt out of step with a world that often seems to revolve around sex and intimacy?

Today, we wanna talk about something that doesn't get enough attention.

What is it like being asexual in a hyper-sexualized world?

You might've seen some of our other videos on love, lust, and attraction.

The internet talks a lot about sexuality, but what about people who don't experience it the same way or at all?

According to the Asexuality Visibility and Education Network, AVEN, asexuality means experiencing little to no sexual attraction.

Some people identify as graysexual, demisexual, or simply say they're on the ace spectrum.

Being asexual doesn't mean someone can't love, form relationships, or enjoy closeness.

It's simply one aspect of how someone experiences attraction.

Part two, a world of pressure and expectations.

We live in a world that assumes everyone experiences sexual attraction.

If you don't, people may assume something's missing.

This shows up in media, ads, movies, and everyday conversations.

Even fast food commercials get sexualized.

When someone says they don't feel sexual attraction, they often hear things like, you just haven't met the right person yet.

This implies sexual attraction is required to feel complete.

But deep connection, love, and intimacy can exist without sexual attraction.

Relationships are not invalid just because sex isn't part of them.

Part three, the struggles of feeling invisible or misunderstood.

One of the tougher parts of being ace is feeling invisible.

While many sexual orientations are now celebrated, asexuality is still often misunderstood or overlooked.

In media, asexuality is rarely represented, and when it is, characters are often shows as emotionally distant or disconnected, even without being labeled as ace.

This can reinforce false stereotypes that asexual people lack warmth or intimacy, which isn't true.

The truth is asexuality is a natural part of human diversity.

Asexual people may feel other forms of attraction, romantic, emotional, aesthetic, platonic, or sensual, just not sexual attraction.

Human connection is complex and much broader than sex.

Part four, it's not just about saying no to sex.

Being asexual doesn't mean hating sex or being prudish.

Some asexual people do have sex for various personal reasons, others don't.

It's entirely about personal comfort and choice.

As we discussed in our other video, six signs you might be asexual, people on the A-spectrum may experience romantic attraction, aesthetic attraction, emotional attraction, platonic attraction, or sensual attraction like cuddling or touch.

Sex isn't the only way to connect deeply with others.

For many, it's not part of the equation at all.

Part five, finding community, language, and peace.

Many feel relief when they discover there's a word for what they experience.

They realize they aren't broken or alone.

The growing ace community, both online and offline, offers support, connection, and shared understanding.

They give us language to explain our experiences and find others who relate.

Recognizing that allows people to connect in ways that feel right for them.

Being asexual in a hypersexual world can feel isolating at times, but knowing yourself and realizing you don't have to match society's expectations can be empowering.
