I'm Gwen Stefani, and today we are going to be looking back at some of my fashion moments.

And I remember this exact outfit because I had this uniform of things that I had to wear to make me feel like I could be me on stage.

And it had to be a cutoff shirt, and it had to be a certain length.

It had to be a tank top, and I had to have men's trousers.

I don't even know where I got the jacket, probably some mangy thrift store.

It looks like it smells a lot in this photo.

It was a really hard time for me, actually, because the record that I wrote was a record about my boyfriend dumping me.

So you may or may not know, he was in the band.

We went on tour together, and I had to be there with him singing these songs I wrote about him, still wanting to be with him, but he didn't want to be with me.

I just remember every night singing those songs.

You know, that was the bad part, but the good part was like, yes, and we were just having the time of our lives, and we knew we were so good because we had nine years to get good.

All right, next up, guys, 2001 MTV Awards.

I can remember very specifically knowing exactly what I wanted to look like that night.

I really wanted to have that 1940s, the roles, and I had tried to do them myself before I went platinum, and it's very difficult to do, but once you burn your hair and ruin it, it's not as hard, and I really wanted to give that sort of 1940s soldier girl, USA pinup girl look, and I had an amazing stylist at this point.

She even made the Rocksteady knuckle jewelry, which I don't think it was real.

I was so naive and so pure and so ready to just be a fan of all the things that I loved, and I was gonna take all that, and I was gonna wear it.

It didn't even matter what anyone thought.

Danilo Dixon, he was all about any kind of glamor set, and I thought the hair was just so beautiful that night, and I got to wear this stunning Louis Vuitton dress by Marc Jacobs.

It's just such an incredible foreshadowing because what came next after this was my solo record, which was very inspired by Alice in Wonderland, and I feel like he was very inspired by Alice in Wonderland with the blue and the white and the ruffle and the black bow, but it was just an amazing time.

She could find things that I didn't even know about because she lived in New York, and she knew all the designers, and she knew how it worked, and I was just a girl from Anaheim that went to the fabric store and the thrift store and made my own thing up, and when we got together, it was when things just elevated because it was like a little bit of both mashed into one.

All right, 2004, this is the Aviator premiere.

Vivienne Westwood, for me, was something that I discovered before I knew who she was.

I was like a super fan, so anytime I could wear Vivienne Westwood, I was that girl.

I think what's so incredible about the dress and what Vivienne Westwood would do is she would take classic vintage romantic ideas and then she would mess them up and twist them like how she twists the fabric on the pockets, like all messed up.

I mean, it's all designed so inside out and beautiful.

She went into my heart and she was like, okay, I'm gonna figure out what Gwen wants, and then she designed it.

Not in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine that I would ever be in a film, but not only was I in a film, but I was in a Martin Scorsese film playing Gene Harlow and I almost got to kiss Leonardo DiCaprio, but I didn't get to, so too late for that.

That was one of the most incredible, scary experiences.

I just tried out and I went to the Bel Air Hotel and they were just literally trying out girls.

They were walking in and try out and you walk out and I just remember I walked in, I did the scene and they were so nice and made me feel so normal and comfortable and I cut the part.

I had like three lines, but I got the part, okay.

All right, 2005 and this is on the set of Hollaback Girl.

I was so absolutely clear on what I was doing, not just the music, but even what I was gonna wear was very, very clear and I really wanted to go back to my roots and this is exactly my uniform of what I would wear.

In fact, I believe that those are one of my pants from the old days, like some thrift store men's pants.

Of course, Andrea blinged it out, made it look cool and then she made me the bananas belt, which my favorite thing about Andrea was spare no expense.

Like she's go, I'm gonna go make you a metal like bananas custom belt, you can wear that with your old haggard pants that are from your closet.

All right, next up, this is The Met 2019 and it's Jeremy Scott from Moschino.

Jeremy called and he was like, do you wanna go with me and be my guest?

It was my face with the ponytail and the outfit.

Like, is that an outfit or is that a, is that like a showgirl baby suit?

I was so excited to wear something that's so sparkly and so glamorous.

It just echoes back to all of those old time movies that I used to worship back in the day.

And anytime I can wear a feather boa, like, yes.

All right, now we are in 2023, the CMT Music Awards.

I was there with Blake and it was a really unusual situation where they had invited me, the CMT Awards, to come and sing Just a Girl.

When I do that song, it's very like specific.

And the energy has to be sort of masculine in a way.

It can't just be early and pretty and soft.

Like, there has to be like a little bit of edge.

My gorgeous, stunning hairdresser, Suzette, absolutely sliced it because she pulled my face back so far that I look like a mannequin in the best way.

As far as the outfit goes, this is like the perfect outfit that describes probably my style overall.

And it was just such a perfect way to walk out on the red carpet with my husband.

I felt like we looked like two cartoon characters of ourselves because we don't go together, but we go perfectly together.
