The imperative

Let's look at what some middle school students told me recently on how to give a good presentation.

Past simple

In Jennifer Tarle with Tarle speech and a few weeks back, I attended a middle school career fair and they helped me by giving me tips on how to be a clear speaker, a better listener and a good presenter.

So let's take a look at their presentation tips.

I was blown away by the students and how many tips they gave me about confidence and being calm and believing in yourself.

So they said things like, be brave, be calm, be confident, be nice.

People are interested even if they don't look like it.

Look at others and be calm and confident.

Talk nicely, be nice, be calm, be confident, be yourself.

And let's move on to tip number two, stand up straight.

This tip made me smile because I tell lots of students to do this all the time.

Even when you're in a zoom meeting, people tend to do this and kind of shrink down.

It is stand up straight and make sure that you have good and open posture.

Moving on to tip number three, don't be stiff.

I thought this was so interesting from so many of the students on tips on how to look relaxed even if you're not feeling relaxed.

Talk with hand motions, which I do all the time.

Use gestures, use some sign language, and walk around.

Be calm, be confident, and look at at the same time.

Tips for being clear and concise sort of were all over the place, but they all come down to just making sure that you have a plan.

Try not to have so many filler words like uh.

So in summary, the students gave me four great tips.
