The way that you're communicating in interviews might actually be the number one reason why you're not getting job offers and in today's video I'm gonna talk all about your communication and how you can fix it in order to land the job that you want.
My name is Linda Rayner and over the last eight years I've helped over 4,000 corporate professionals just like you and counting to land amazing job offers and that is by teaching you how to So if you're getting interviews, but you're not getting job offers, the number one reason could be your communication.
Specifically, you're giving overly technical answers in the interviews.
This is the fastest way to get rejected by hiring managers.
Now, if this is how you are in interviews, don't worry you're not alone and I totally get it.
You're likely a high performer.
You're really good at what you do.
You have strong technical expertise.
And so you're thinking well, the only way to showcase my value in interviews is to explain in detail how technically capable I am at doing the job.
So what ends up happening is you can go into great detail and great lengths at describing your technical expertise to the hiring managers.
The best way that I can explain why this doesn't work is to imagine that you're a patient and you have an upcoming surgery and in that appointment with that surgeon, they go through, he or she decides to sit through the next hour with you and explain in full detail exactly how they're going to make the incision, how they're going to operate on you, what types of tools they're going to use and how long each phase of the operation is going to take and all the while they're using a lot of medical jargon and acronyms that you don't fully understand.
You as the patient, you might not care too much about all of that detail.
Of course, it's appreciated, but you're sitting there thinking about other things that are more important to you that the surgeon didn't even talk about.
For example, you might be worried about things like whether the surgery is safe, what's the recovery period like, are there any side effects and things like that.
Whereas you're not really going to care too much about the exact names of the tools or the exact surgical steps that the surgeon is going to take, unless of course that's something that you're really, really intrigued about and it's really important to you.
But for the average patient, you don't need all of that information and in a way this is very similar to how the hiring manager feels when you in an interview are being overly detailed in your technical explanations and answers.
Because what's happening is that the hiring manager is now drowning in all of the details and all of the information that you've provided and there is in no way any sense of persuasion or convincing that you're the one that they should hire.
So what do you do instead?
You're going to incorporate other elements in your interview answers through a process that I call Compelling Storytelling and Compelling Storytelling is one of the key areas that I focus on getting my clients to master through the Standout and Get Hired methodology that I teach.
Now, what Compelling Storytelling is not, it is not telling your life story.
It's not rehashing all those types of details in your personal life.
Instead, there are three key elements that are involved in building Compelling Stories.
And the first element is relevance to the job that you're applying for.
So what this means is you want to come up with specific examples and points in time from your experience, whether it's the job that you're in or previous jobs that you've held, that you want to use as stories.
You want to recall important moments, important situations, important events that led to certain results.
Those are going to be relevant to the job that you're applying for.
You want to make sure that they're relevant by understanding what did you do and how does it relate to the job that you're applying for and you want to have a list of those.
The second element is to ensure that you are the hero of the story.
Remember, in every good story, there's a hero, there's a villain, there's a plot.
You are the hero of the story.
You're the main character.
That's the second element.
And finally, the third important element to Compelling Storytelling is reassurance that you are the one that they need.
You need to reassure the hiring manager that you are the right fit for them through your compelling story.
This is all about letting them know why they should care that you just went through this story with them.
And keep in mind, you're gonna want to have a good number of these compelling stories in your back pocket, in your memory bank.
So I would say anywhere from 10 to 15.
And so once you implement these three additional factors, in addition to your technical expertise and the details that you give in your interview answers, you're gonna see a substantial improvement in the way that hiring managers react to you, in the way that you're communicating, and likely an increase in your chances of getting the job offer as well.
And I would be happy to help you to directly implement this through my Stand Out and Get Hired methodology.
I provide you with the exact fill-in-the-blank templates and detailed scripts on how you can develop your compelling stories so that you can increase your chances of getting the job offer.
So the question is simple.
Do you want to continue to deliver overly technical answers and miss out on getting job offers?
Hopefully after this video, you're not going to do that anymore.
Or are you ready to stand out faster than any of the other job seekers, the other candidates that are applying for the same job that you are, and present yourself in the same way that top strategic leaders do.
