Recently, I posted a video called Dyeing my hair pink using 16 different pink hair dyes.
The video was a great success.
So after many requests to continue the series about dyeing my hair using 16 different types of hair dye, today's video I will be dyeing my best friend's hair using 16 different blue hair dyes.
Now why am I not dyeing my own hair you ask?
Well you see, my hair takes a very very long time to grow and in my experience, or at least from what I've seen from my friends, blue hair dye takes a very long time to wash out.
It normally will go from blue to green and then it just won't change after that point and I'm not quite ready for that commitment just yet because I do want to experiment with some other colours and if the green won't come out, I can't go pink again.
So with that being said, my best friend Sam, well he's been growing his hair for a little while and he's very eager to shave it all off.
So I said to him, please, please kind sir, before you shave off your hair, please let me dye it blue.
With that, I have here in front of me 16 different blue hair dyes.
Now there's some popular brands here, there's some brands that people may not have heard of before.
I have a selection of light blue, dark blue and turquoise.
Samuel!
Please, join me.
Hey!
At what point did I say I wanted to shave it off?
Well, I mean not shave it completely but...
We fibbies, she be tellin'.
We fibbies.
Sam's hair is nice and luscious and long.
He looks like a Walmart version of Legolas.
So we're going to divide...
Please, thrift shop version of Legolas.
How am I going to do this?
Craigslist version of Legolas.
I hope that you've enjoyed looking like Gilderoy Lockhart for all these months because you're about to look like Ninja.
Okay.
Like, fight crime, stop darkness.
Not that sort of Ninja.
I mean the type that sits and plays games.
Let's have a quick look at these brands, I'll tell you what we've got.
So, to begin we have L'Oreal Colorista in Denim, Pastel Blue and Turquoise.
We have Bright Organics in Blue, Pastel Blue and Turquoise.
We have Dare in Blueberry Bomb and Blue Ice.
We have Schwarzkopf Ultra Brights in Electric Blue and Turquoise Temptation.
We have Manic Panic in Rockabilly Blue, Atomic Turquoise and Bad Boy Blue.
We have Revolution in True Blue and we have Keracolor in Blue and in Turquoise.
So, are you ready?
I've never been ready for anything in my life, but it hasn't let me down yet.
So let's do it.
Now obviously buying 16 different blue hair dyes was not going to be cheap.
So thank you so much to ExpressVPN for sponsoring today's video.

But did you know that most of our favorite streaming services have different catalogs for each region?
Well thanks to today's sponsor ExpressVPN, I can change my online location to access geographically blocked content with 94 countries to choose from.
This might come as a surprise to some of you, but I've never watched Grey's Anatomy.
It's literally not available on Australian Netflix, hence why I kept referring to this guy as the dad from Euphoria and not McDreamy.
I've also been deprived of Breaking Bad, which is only available on Netflix UK, US and Canada.
But hey, it's not all doom and gloom over here on Australian Netflix because we do have access to a bunch of Studio Ghibli films, which are only accessible on Netflix Australia,
UK and Canada.

And with that, let's get on with the video.
I have here my little hair map.
I don't know if you can see this, but what I've decided to do is divide his head.
Gently divide my head, please.
Let's not have any long lasting injuries with an axe.
What I'm going to be doing is from the nose, we're going to divide in half.
Then we're going to take each half like this, and then we're going to divide directly in the center of the ear.
And then we're going to go each one of those in half again.
Each strand like this is going to have a darker blue going to a lighter blue like a gradient.
I know that sounds a little bit confusing.
I couldn't think of a better way to do it.
If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments below.
And if your only feedback is get a professional to do it, keep that to yourself.
Wow, Sam, you look beautiful.
Strand number one.
We're starting off with Manic Panic's Bad Boy Blue transitioning into Colorista by L'Oreal in turquoise.
Wait, is my shirt in danger?
You should remove it.
You can do this.
I can't do this.
You can do this.
You got this, girl.
Was that enough of a motivational talk for you?
What did you do?
Nothing.
How do you feel?
I feel like I'm in danger.
You feel blue bubble de-bubble died?
What type is the superior Pokemon?
What?
You have electric type?
That's not allowed.
No, Gyarados.
Magikarp used Splash.
I can't believe I lost this battle.
Next combo is Revolution in True Blue and Bright in Turquoise.
Oh boy, this is so dark.
Oh shit.
I thought you just went and put that in your mouth.
Wait, does it smell good?
Why the fuck does it smell like berries?
Oh, this one's quite different.
In a good way?
Well, in a darker way.
Oh my god, it's like the same colour as the comb.
The comb is a purple comb.
It's called True Blue, so it's either Aussie as fuck.
Or...
It's got nothing to do with the colour, it's just...
Yeah, it's just made in Australia.
It's just True Blue.
Here's to Samuel, he's True Blue.
He's a pisspot through and through.
The Americans are very confused.
He's a bastard, so they say.
I don't know the rest of it.
Does anyone know the rest of it?
Like, every time I'm at a birthday party and we get to that point...
But he went the other way?
He went to go to heaven, but he went the other way?
Drink, drink, drink!
No, no, he went down, down, and then you tell them down, down, and they're meant to like down their drink.
Oh, is that it?
Yeah, look, I've never really...
I'm so un-Australian.
I've never engaged in it.
The only time I ever engaged in it was when they were singing that at My 21st, and I had to just like...
And I knew enough to know to skull my beverage.
Whoa, whoa!
You don't even know what you're...
So this one's True Blue mixed with...
This is Revolution True Blue mixed with Bright Organics in Turquoise.
All right, so I'm really, really liking this Dark Revolution, and also this Bright Organics in Turquoise looks really pretty.
Now, I liked Bright Organics last time when I did the pink hair dye video.
I felt that the Bright Organics lasted a long time, so I hope that this one...
Because this is a really nice color.
I hope this lasts a long time too, but also this color transition between the Revolution and the Turquoise,
I think it looks really nice.
Okay, the next combination is Manic Panic in Rockabilly Blue going into Atomic Turquoise.
Ooh, definitely a runnier texture, and I feel like it's coating each individual hair a little bit easier.
I don't need to work as hard to get each of the hairs covered.
It's like basically covered everything.
So let me get this straight, Alex.
This video, we do all of this in the individual strands, but just because, you know, we hate our hair, we mix them all together at the end, right?
All of it together to make one Mega Blue.
Okay, Mega Blue it is.
Mega Blue sounds like it could be like some Australian teenage drama.
Oh my god, okay, this stained the gloves so much worse than all the others.
Wow, this is crazy.
So that is a good sign for long-lasting color.
Yeah, I reckon this one won't wash out anytime soon.
Ooh, I like this.
As far as just first impressions from the application,
Manic Panic is probably my favorite so far.
This is, oh, it's applying so well and the colors look really nice and they look very true to the colors in the bottle as well.
Ooh, I like this combination too.
This looks really cool.
Rockabilly Blue and Atomic Turquoise.
Guys, tell me, have you seen the Marvelous Redfish?
It's like an inverse sandwich.
I don't think anyone watching this video would understand that reference.
Surely they must.
Like, for example, if I mentioned I like rusty spoons, surely 90% of people know exactly what I'm talking about.
I don't know.
They'd have to.
All right, next up, we're doing Schwarzkopf Live Ultra Brights.
We have Electric Blue fading into Turquoise Temptation.
This one also smells delightful.
Oh, okay, it's so weird how the Schwarzkopf Live is literally a mousse.
It's so thick.
It just looks edible.
Like, as you're using it, you just want to scoop it on a muffin and eat it.
In the pictures on the box, it looked kind of neon, but this doesn't look like it's going to become neon to me.
Oh, I really like that gradient.
That looks awesome.
So this Schwarzkopf Live Turquoise is having a little bit of a hard time coloring the sort of brassy yellow tones of his bleach blonde hair.
It doesn't seem to be covering it anywhere near as well as these turquoise colors did.
All right, so the next colors are these Keracolor Color Clanditioner.
Now, the awkward thing is that when we were in Hair House Warehouse, we were led to believe that these were hair dyes.
On the back here, it says that it starts off lightened.
After one wash, it looks like this.
Two washes looks like this.
Three washes looks like this.
So obviously, we're only going to be doing the first one.
The strands on this side of your head are a little bit thinner to what they were on the other side, so I don't know how this is actually going to turn out.
What the fuck?
Sorry, everything's fine.
I'm just turning you into an avatar cosplaying.
I was going to ask, do I need to worry about my jeans?
No, they're beautiful.
But I was like, I don't need to ask that.
Why would my jeans be in danger?
Surely.
All right, so this definitely does apply like a conditioner.
I almost feel like this product is a little bit pointless, purely based on the fact that it seems to be just a conditioner with blue in it.
And you could just buy any blue, add it to a bottle of conditioner, and you would have the same thing.
But this was really expensive.
This was like $35 a bottle.
So am I starting to look beautiful, Alex?
Oh, Sam, you always look beautiful.
Thank you.
Moving on to Dare now.
We're doing blueberry bomb fading into blue ice.
Oh, this looks purple.
Yeah, the revolution one looks purple.
All right, so this light blue is having a little bit of a hard time getting into your hair.
It just doesn't want to take at all.
This is the first one that this has happened.
It just, it is not taking.
Like I'm running it over, over and over and over.
And it's just, nothing's happening.
I mean, yeah, like a little bit of something's happening, but you can see a really big difference between this and this.
It's just not taking.
Maybe we just need some more.
I'll put some more on.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe how this is just, it's doing nothing.
Maybe when you wash it, it'll be blue.
All right, so next up we have bright in blue and then fading into pastel blue.
Oh, this is so runny.
Oh my gosh.
Do I need to protect my pants?
No, everything's fine.
This is at the very front of your head, so.
It better be a good one.
Better be a very good one.
Why haven't you made an ooh sound, Alex?
Um, this is a very unusual texture.
Like it feels really thin and runny, but also there's so much pigment in it that like it's really very, very strong.
We were going to get one called blue steel and I was very excited, but then we looked at the color and it wasn't that impressive.
But I wanted to make a blue steel reference.
Oh, I really totally expected that to be pastel blue, but it's quite dark.
Look at this, this doesn't, what, what?
Did I get it on you?
I'm so sorry.
I asked, do I need to protect my pants?
No, you'll be fine.
Lame.
All right.
So not a huge color difference between the bright blue and the bright pastel blue.
At least upon application, it doesn't look massively different, but maybe once he washes it out, it will be very different.
So the last combination is L'Oreal Paris Colorista Washout denim hair and blue hair.
So obviously there's quite a difference here.
It looks like this one's supposed to be very pastel.
This one looks like a denim-y kind of blue.
This is so dark.
It looks black.
Oh my gosh.
Look.
Whoa, whoa.
Whoa.
Uh, are you sure you want to put that in my hair?
We do.
We really do.
Whoa, okay.
I can't believe how dark, this literally looks black.
What the hell?
Oh, I'm so sorry, Sam.
I should not have put this at the front of your head.
Um.
Heck.
Alex.
Sam.
Why would you tell me this?
Oh no.
Oh no.
Oh no, no, no, no.
It's too blue now.
The very last one is pastel blue.
Oh, it's purple.
What the heck?
What?
It's, it's literally purple.
I'm, I am confusion.
This has been an exercise in learning things, Alex.
An exercise in learning things.
Why is it purple?
This is meant to be pastel blue.
What?
Okay.
This is probably going to be one that surprises us.
I'm sure.
I choose to believe, Alex.
I choose to believe.
Manic Panic Bad Boy Blue to L'Oreal Turquoise.
Revolution Blue to Bright in Turquoise.
Manic Panic Rockabilly Blue going down to Manic Panic Atomic Turquoise.
I really like this color.
This looks so nice.
Schwarzkopf Electric Blue going into Schwarzkopf Turquoise.
Hera Color in Blue coming down into Turquoise.
This is the Dare Blueberry into Blue Ice.
Probably the least successful in terms of this pastel color down here.
It really does kind of look like a greenish yellow.
Bright in Blue going down to Bright Pastel Blue.
And last but not least, L'Oreal Denim going down into L'Oreal Blue.
We just have to leave it for a little bit to absorb.
And stop, no, stop.
Forbidden blueberry jam.
Okay, let's go watch some South Park and then we'll wash it out.
I suggested that, Alex, but I just realized something.
What?
I can't put my glasses on because they'd get blue.
And I can't watch anything without my glasses on.
I can listen to South Park and I can listen to you laugh.
Nan.
Nan, wait.
So it's turned out actually like not too terrible.
Like I wasn't slightly concerned, you know, like ever so slightly thinking you'd look ridiculous.
You only look partially odd.
I wouldn't say ridiculous.
I'd just say like unusual.
Well, I've looked pretty fucked up my whole life.
So I'm going to count this as a win.
Okay, so I've got my hair map here.
So we've got the front of the head, the back of the head, the ears.
I've drawn where the dividing lines are.
So I'm going to try and break this down for you guys and tell you what is what.
But overall, just looking at his head like this, there actually isn't like the biggest difference in the world.
If you turn this way, you know, these are all different turquoise colors along here, but so many of them look so similar.
So I think where the difference will come in is once he actually starts to wash it.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you only put cold water or like lukewarm water, right?
You didn't use any product to wash this out?
No product.
Okay, you look glorious.
Thank you.
You look so glorious.
You look like the main character.
I've always been the main character.
I mean, the novel's failing, but I'm the main character nonetheless.
Strand number one.
So we've got bright organics in blue just here, fading down into bright pastel blue.
Now, this is definitely not what I thought it was going to be.
This pastel blue is meant to be this section here, but this most certainly does not look pastel blue like in any way at all.
This looks more turquoise.
Good thing we're just doing this for an experiment.
So you guys don't make the same mistakes.
So this next section here is the Keracolor in blue and then Keracolor in teal.
Now, interestingly enough, after just one application, it actually, it's come across very strong for a product that is supposed to be applied multiple times.
So as a hair dye, just a hair dye, it didn't work that well.
But when you consider it's actually just a color depositing conditioner, it has deposited a fair bit of color.
The teal is quite a pretty color, but it definitely didn't cover all of the yellow.
There's yellow tones showing through under here.
And the dark blue is almost the same as the teal.
Like if I double this back and you, oh, well, yeah.
Enormous difference in the texture between this one and this one.
And as people explained in my pink hair dye video, that's because some products are conditioning products and some don't have conditioner in them.
So obviously that's why this one, which is the bright organics, it feels a little bit more dry than what this section feels.
But people corrected me because I was saying in my video that it felt damaged, but people have told me it's not damaged.
You just need to put more conditioner on the dry parts.
Next up, we have the Manic Panic section.
Now, this top part here is Rockabilly Blue, and it fades down to, what was this called?
Atomic Turquoise.
Atomic Turquoise.
Now, so far, just looking at his head, I like these two colors the most.
I think this looks really nice.
Rockabilly Blue is a really rich, beautiful blue color.
And this Atomic Turquoise is so nice, too.
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, this looks amazing.
And your hair feels really nice, too.
It feels soft.
It's not frizzy.
It doesn't look damaged or, you know, like dried out or anything.
So next up, we have Manic Panic in Bad Boy Blue, which is this section just here.
And then L'Oreal in Turquoise.
Now, again, the Manic Panic, it's lighter in some spots, darker in others.
Not as consistent.
I like this L'Oreal Turquoise.
I think this is a really cool color.
It's like a real sort of swampy kind of green.
I really like it.
This blue, it's all right.
It's definitely lighter than the Rockabilly Blue.
I think I still like the Rockabilly Blue a lot more.
There's some sections of his hair here that look a little bit more sort of frizzy.
If you turn your head this way.
Oh, yeah, like way more frizzy.
So this section here is really nice and smooth.
There's no sort of flyaways.
But this section here has a lot of these little sort of flyaway hairs.
Even if Sam hadn't told me that this part here was L'Oreal,
I would know just because of how sort of dry and frizzy it feels.
Now we've got L'Oreal in Denim, fading into the L'Oreal that was supposed to be a Pastel Blue.
Now, like I said to you guys,
I didn't think that this Pastel Blue was picking up.
And yeah, sure enough, it looks like a greeny, murky yellow.
The Denim Blue, it's actually a pretty cool color.
I quite like it.
Looks a little bit darker in some sections than others.
But overall, not a bad color.
I actually think it's one of my favorite dark blues, second to Rockabilly Blue.
This section here, we've got Dare.
So this is the Dare Blueberry color up at the top here.
And then the Dare Blue Ice at the bottom.
Now this Blue Ice is definitely more of a successful Pastel Blue than what the L'Oreal was.
It's definitely still pulling a little bit of greenish yellow.
Didn't pick up in some sections.
That was something that I noticed.
I felt like it just wasn't picking up.
So it didn't pick up in some parts, but the Blueberry color is really nice.
Almost, look, if you look at these two together, if I just sort of brush these together like this, the L'Oreal and the Dare, they look quite similar.
But if I kind of like sort of do this in the light,
I don't know if you'll be able to see on camera, but the L'Oreal is picking up a little bit of a lighter blue in the light than what the Dare does.
The Dare just kind of stays a true dark blue.
It doesn't sort of throw any light colors.
So Schwarzkopf Turquoise, can you see the way that his hair is behaving here?
If you compare this little section of hair to all of this hair over here, can you see how this section looks really nice and sort of flat and smooth?
And this section looks really frizzed up.
This is exactly what happened in my pink video with Schwarzkopf.
It kind of makes your hair go super frizzy like this.
People have told me, don't worry, it's not damaged.
You just need to put lots of conditioner because this product is drying.
I quite like this dark blue.
I think it's really nice.
It's actually a very, very nice dark blue.
That's another favorite dark blue for me.
And this turquoise, this is what I was telling you.
It's not throwing anywhere near as much green.
See down here, look how this is basically green.
This is the next product over here.
It's literally like green, green.
But this to me, it's a bluish turquoise.
It's really pretty.
So Revolution Blue.
This went on looking quite purple, but very, very nice blue color.
Really nice, rich kind of blue color.
I like the Revolution brand.
I find that it's very strong, but also with the pink Revolution washed out really quickly.
So don't know how long this one's gonna last.
But this turquoise down here, what brand is this?
Right?
This is bright.
Oh my God.
You know what?
Funnily enough, it's like a greenish kind of color, but I love it.
I think this is a beautiful color.
I would totally dye my hair with this.
This is so nice.
Definitely slightly more green.
It's on the greener end of the turquoise scale, but I like this fade between this dark blue and this sort of greenish turquoise.
I think it's really nice.
The Revolution side is really nice and smooth.
It looks lovely.
And also it looks super shiny too.
Like it's catching the light.
It looks lovely.
This is bright turquoise down here.
And this is L'Oreal's turquoise.
And you can see, I hope you can see that this is a much richer color on this side.
I'd pick the bright organics turquoise because I think that's a really, really cool color.
Blue, I would probably pick Manic Panic.
What's this one here?
What's this one?
Rockabilly?
Yes.
Manic Panic Rockabilly.
I think that's my favorite blue.
That looks so cool.
So your mission now, Sam, is to wash your hair very many times.
Okay.
And then we'll come back after several washes and we'll figure out, you know, which colors have held.
Essentially just give the people what they want to know.
Basically just wash my hair, right?
Yeah.
The people want you to wash your hair.
You greasy bastard.
Sam, you are not the Joker.
You need to stop.
Sit.
All right.
Sam's here.
How long has it been?
Oh my God.
It's been so long.
I can't remember.
It's another year now, guys.
It's been a whole year.
It's 2021 now.
As you can see, the poor boy has been running around for the past couple of months with, um...
I've been looking like a patchwork quilt.
Yes.
Beautiful.
It's kind of endearing, actually.
Thank you.
Oh, before we go any further.
Here, here.
What, what, what?
What is the difference between the Electoral College and the popular vote?
What?
US politics, my dear.
What?
What did you say?
What is the difference between the Electoral College and the popular vote?
Well, the popular vote is probably what the people vote.
Like the, like the citizens.
And the...
What was the other one?
The Electoral College.
Is that...
It's obviously not like a university for...
No, it's not actually.
It's got nothing to do with education.
I don't know why it's called a college.
I...
Is...
No, hang on.
I feel like I know this.
Is it the, um...
Are they the people that are put in charge of delegating the votes from each state?
So like the people vote for who they want, but fuck what the people want.
So, so my under, my understanding now, now just to, just to clarify things.
Oh, did you want to do this as part of the video today?
Well, okay.
I forgot.
I had suggested this a while ago.
I know.
Where we would get an American to put together a big list of American political questions that Australians don't understand.
So unfortunately for us,
I had a friend in the States and she was very kind to generate...
How many Electoral College votes do you need to win the presidency?
Look, let's, let's do this next time.
All right, so here's that little map that we put together all those months ago.
Oh, you can actually tell quite easily which strand is which because you can see the colours really easily.
I would be in excess of 10 washes by now.
Oh, Sam, you've had like 20 washes.
Yeah, like I've lost track.
This one was L'Oreal Denim and it's actually lasted quite well.
So it's still blue.
It hasn't really gone green.
It's still quite a blue colour.
And at the bottom was L'Oreal Blue, which has basically become green down here.
You can kind of, you can see it's sort of turned into a greenish yellowish kind of colour.
So L'Oreal Blue does not stay true blue.
The next part we have the top is Dare Blueberry.
It's more blue than what the L'Oreal one was.
Definitely Dare Blueberry has stayed quite blue.
But the bottom, this one was Dare in Blue Ice and it's completely gone.
It's actually washed straight out to blonde.
Like it hasn't even gone green.
It's just gone blonde, which is good to me because see this one washed out to be like a greenish.
This one's just gone straight back to blonde, which is exactly what I'm looking for.
I'm looking for a blue that doesn't, you know, like just ruin your hair and stay completely blue.
So that's, I'm actually really impressed with Dare Blue Ice.
Alrighty, so next up we've got Schwarzkopf Electric Blue.
Definitely not electric blue anymore.
It's kind of like a greyish kind of blue, but interesting how it's definitely washed out to grey, like a steely kind of grey.
Hasn't gone green yet.
This colour, which was Schwarzkopf in Turquoise, it didn't go green.
I thought it would wash out and leave the hair a greenish kind of colour, but it didn't.
It's just washed out to a greyish kind of blonde.
I actually don't mind this combination.
This is kind of cool.
I can imagine this all over the head being a really cool gradient.
Now this here, this is interesting.
Keep turning.
So this is Revolution Blue.
This colour has lasted really, really well.
Hasn't gone green.
It stayed really true to the original colour that we put on there.
The bottom has washed out to a really green kind of blonde.
So you can see, I don't know, actually I hope you can see the difference.
If you can't really tell on camera, just take my word for it, that this blonde down here is like a really nice toned, cool, greyish blonde.
This is like a greeny yellow blonde.
This is the sort of blonde that I wanted to avoid if I was going to dye my hair blue.
I didn't want it to end up like this.
I'd be happy for it to end up like this.
Bright Turquoise did not last at all, but Revolution Blue, this is the strongest blue by far and it's lasted.
It's a really cool colour.
All right, so this one, there's literally no colour left here at all.
This is basically just a greenish blonde.
This top half was Bright Blue and the bottom half was Bright Organics Pastel Blue.
There's nothing left here.
This is just like a yellowish blonde.
As expected, this one here was the Keracolour.
We only used it once and interestingly enough, there's still a little bit of colour clinging in there.
Keracolour Teal has turned green and Keracolour Blue is gone.
It's just kind of like a lightish green blonde.
Now, this is surprising to me.
This here is supposed to be
Manic Panic Rockabilly Blue.
It's gone.
I really thought this was so strong, this one, but it's washed out to blonde.
So that's not bad.
It hasn't left any green.
It's left blonde.
And the bottom, this was Manic Panic in Atomic Turquoise and it's this really cool kind of greenish turquoisey colour.
It actually looks really nice.
I like it a lot.
It looks like it's definitely stubborn and hard to wash out, but if that's what you want, if you're planning on having turquoise hair for long periods of time, it's actually not too bad.
And then the very last section down here, this is Manic Panic Bad Boy Blue.
It's gone.
