Ah-ha!         The age-old question and now for a special public service announcement.

Let me answer, what happens if a cockroach bites you?

Okay, we know, just hearing the word cockroach is enough to make your skin crawl.

They are gross, they move fast and they are like the horror movie villains of the bug world.

But, did you know they can actually bite?

Yeah, seriously, it's not super common but it does happen, especially in places where there are tons of them hanging around.

Luckily, only a few types are known to go there, mainly the German, American and Oriental cockroaches.

These are the types that like to live close to people, especially where there's leftover food or trash lying around.

If there's a full-blown infestation and not enough food, they might use their mandibles to nibble on your body parts, like fingernails, hands or even your face while you're sleeping.  Now, before you panic, know that cockroach bites aren't super dangerous.

But since roaches carry all kinds of germs, any break in the skin could get infected if you're not careful.

That's why it's important to know what a bite looks like and how to deal with it.

So, what does a cockroach bite feel like?

You'll probably notice a big red bump bigger than a mosquito bite.

It can be itchy, swollen and kind of painful.

Some people even get allergic reactions that cause more serious swelling or rashes.

In rare cases, it could be hard to breathe.

But that's usually only if someone's already really sensitive.

But the good news is, cockroach bites can be treated pretty easily at home.

All you have to do is wash the area with warm water and soap.

Then slap on some antiseptic cream and maybe a cold pack to calm things down.

If it's super itchy, an anti-itch cream can help too.

But remember, no matter what, just don't scratch it.

I know it's tempting, but scratching can make things worse and even lead to infection.

So, if it starts to look extra puffy, filled with pus or really painful, that's your cue to see a doctor.

Now the vital question is, how to avoid all this tension?

Well, keep those roaches out in the first place.

That means cleaning up crumbs, taking out the trash regularly, fixing any leaks as roaches love moisture and sealing cracks around your house.

If things get out of control, it might be time to call in pest control to show those creepy critters the door.

Cockroach bites are real, but with a little info and some smart clean-up habits, you'll be way ahead of the game.
