And now I have a whole husband and a baby in my belly.

This is gonna be my last video before I take a break because obviously I'm pregnant.

And sitting down is hard because I have pain in my hands.

So when I'm like editing and stuff like that, it really hurts and swelling from sitting too long.

So YouTube is the platform of choice that I'm gonna kind of shut off from.

I've said this before but I left my old account with like 17,000 followers just because I've changed so much throughout the years and I've had that account since 2013.

This video is a bit of a reflection on my journey to Japan.

I'm sorry if the background isn't that beautiful right now.

We have some cleaning up to do still and probably not going to be done before the baby's here.

But a lot of you guys have, you know, have watched me from the very beginning.

When I first started social media, you know, like I moved to Japan 11 years ago.

I don't even know what it's like to adult in America at all.

Like I have no idea what it's like to really live there and I don't go home very much.

So I have like crazy reverse culture shock when I return home.

I came to Japan single and alone and now I have a whole husband and a baby in my belly.

And for those of you who don't know how we met, my husband and I, my husband lived in LA.

He's Japanese and he was working abroad and I was working abroad.

So we basically passed each other up on planes.

Around the same time, he moved to America and I moved to Japan.

We met on Instagram and he lived in LA for about the same amount of time that I've lived in Japan.

We weren't sure what we were going to do.

If I was going to move there, he was going to move here.

And now we live in Japan and we're having our first child.

It's just the beginning of something new and it's been a journey.

And for those of you who want to see my life up until now, I started maybe three or four years ago a series called Girl Abroad where I talked about my experiences more.

That series was about the reality of living here and not just the travel stuff.

Because when you move here, you're not always traveling all the time.

You see a lot of YouTubers and creators, you know, going out and exploring and doing all these things.

And most of the time, those are sponsored videos.

I've done many, many sponsored travel posts and things like that.

But the reality of it is you don't travel a lot.

And especially if you come on a work visa, like you are working, you come home exhausted, you know, you're doing the daily mundane tasks, everyday mundane tasks that, you know, you would normally do anywhere in the world.

But also when you move abroad, there's a bit of an adjustment period.

I talked a lot about my struggles of self-discovery and being away from all the noise back home and just learning more about myself that way.

Because when you're in your comfort bubble or you're surrounded by people you've grown up with, you don't really learn too much about yourself, I feel like.

If you move to a new city or you're on your own somewhere else, it's easy to hear that inner voice that's kind of been silenced and conditioned and influenced over the years versus if you were to stay in that comfort bubble and be surrounded by those same people and be influenced by those same people over and over again.

I started to realize that I needed to unlearn everything that I thought I knew about life and that moving abroad was a bigger journey for me.

It wasn't just moving abroad and experiencing the culture and language and all of that.

And while that is one part of it, moving abroad, when you move abroad, you really truly meet yourself.

And I think there's a majority of people that don't do that, that ignore that part, that deeper journey.

And then they get into a more comfortable bubble where it's hard for them to move forward or change or make decisions that feel good to them.

And there's a majority of people that ignore that part, that self-discovery journey.

And so they get into this even more comfortable bubble a lot of people move to Japan and then they feel very comfortable probably anywhere in the world.

They get more comfortable, they learn how to live here, they learn the language, and it just gets a little bit easier.

And as a human, you are supposed to be changing.

You're supposed to be discovering new passions and discovering new things and learning new things about yourself and allowing yourself and giving yourself permission to give up.

Which I do have like a whole podcast episode about giving yourself permission to give up and knowing that that's okay to give up on certain things.

Because when I gave up on teaching, everyone was like, oh my god, you have a degree in that.

And you know, you came to Japan for that specific reason.

I had a degree in education and a minor in ESL and I really wanted to teach English here.

And then I realized, you know, it wasn't for me and I wanted to do something different.

And it was just a really long journey of like realizing, well, I don't want to do this.

And then there was that pressure of people telling me, you know, well, why are you quitting?

Like, you're never going to find another job.

And if you come back home, it's going to be hard for you to find a job.

Like there's a lot of outside noise that, you know, I started to listen to, but realized I shouldn't be listening to those things.

So I started to practice being uncomfortable, practice really listening to myself and learning to be comfortable with discomfort.

Because I needed to get out of my comfort zone in order to really grow as a human being.

And I had to have this like incredible awareness to get to where I'm at today.

And I'm glad that I did that because if I didn't, I think I would still be on that same loop of being an English teacher here in Japan and not ever moving up in the position that I was in.

I didn't work for great companies either.

I would have been in the same toxic relationships.

I just look back at like this journey and you can even see me going on some dates in some of my past videos, the struggles that I went through, the difficulties that I went through here in Japan, because Japan is really put on this pedestal, right?

It's like this magical world where everything is perfect.

And now with like TikTok and social media and like short form content that we're mindlessly scrolling through, we see a lot of content that's not exactly the truth of what it's really like to live here, especially because so many people are on different visas.

I've talked about this in my content before.

There's people here that are just traveling and leave the country and then they come back.

And we don't know that much about these people.

So we assume and we look at content like, oh wow, Japan, if I moved to Japan, it's gonna be exactly like that.

And it's not like that, especially if you come on a work visa and you're by yourself.

It was hard to move here by myself because I didn't know what to expect.

I needed to open a bank account on my own.

I needed to tap into the national health insurance here.

I needed to learn how to do my taxes here.

Like there's so many things that I really needed to do in order to fit in with society.
