This is a very fashionable, fashionable outfit in the 80s in the U.S.

Now, we all agree, just for a moment here, that things from the 80s are not vintage.

They put this horse up on eBay to make a story.

Now, this story was of a woman who had recently dropped her daughter off at university.

Her daughter had moved on to a new phase in her life.

Her mother was a hard-working, came back to her home after her daughter had gone away and started going through some of her daughter's things.

She came across this pink horse and remembered how her daughter used to trot it across the windowsill.

It would be the first thing the mother saw every day coming home from work because her daughter would be there with the horse waiting for her mother to come home.

And the mother hoped that whoever purchased this horse would use it as a reminder that though the day is still long, the years are most short.

Someone purchased this horse for $104.50.

The difference there is outrageous, right?

Did they buy the toy or did they buy the story?

Anytime you're trying to communicate the value of one of the new skin products or the value of this incredible opportunity or community, you try to explain it with logic and detail and science.

If you want someone to feel what is available to them, and in order to do that, you have to share their story.

The last season, let me show this to you.

Remember they spent $250 on those objects?

That is a 3,100% increase on their effort.

How many of you have some big goals in this room?

Imagine that there's a difference if you were to shift your perspective and start telling more stories of how much better you'd be at communicating the value of what you have here at Houston.

All right, the last reason stories are worth investing more time and effort into this.

There's no other form of information exchange, has it in communication, exchange, has it in this.

The storytelling process is by default a co-creative one.

As I am telling you my story, you are creating your own version of that story in your mind.

You're adding my words, you're taking my words.

Yes, you're adding your own images, your own feelings, your own lived experience.

And because you are an active participant in the creation of that story, it will stay with you longer.

How many of you, when I was telling you the story of my elementary school best friend Molly, were picturing the best childhood friends that you have?

And when I was talking about my elementary school and walking down those long hallways, how many of you pictured your primary schools that you grew up going to?

You're raising your hands, you're nodding your heads because... because I know what I'm doing up here.

I know that by default, this is how stories work.

Anytime you tell a story, the person you're telling it to will think you have read it.

And because of that, your story will be remembered.

Richard Hibblings has said it in history, we're taught in the form of stories.

I know that each and every one of you are here to leave your legacy.

To make an impact on the world through music and in everything that you have to offer here.

If you want to be remembered, be telling your story.

Okay, so there are a few of the reasons why storytelling is worth the investment of your time and energy as a skill.

However, we need to now establish a little bit of storytelling clarification.

So that you know what a story is and what a story isn't.

 So you make sure to teach everyone story opportunities that are available.
