Soforthepastfewyears, I feellikewe'veallhad a littlebitof a flingwithminimalism.
I dabbledinitforabouttwo, twoand a halfyearsmyself.
I thinksomanyofusonYouTubehavedefinitelycheckedoutchannelslikeTheMinimalist,
Matt D'Avella, MinimalMom.
Andforgoodreason.
Ifyouwanttochangeyourspendinghabits, changeyourrelationshipwithyourstuff, orsimplyfindwaystostreamlineandsimplifyyourlifeandyourspace, then I thinkminimalismisreallygreat.
Butatleastinmyexperience, I thinkit's alsoveryeasytotakeit a littlebittoofar.
And I'm nottheonlyone.
There's been a lotofvideospoppinguponYouTubeandsocialmediatalkingabouthowminimalismisdead, andhowtheconceptofminimalismcansometimesbedifficulttomakeworkforlongterm.
Andinmyexperience, atleast, I thinkthekeytominimalismistojustlivewithintentionalityandthinkbeforeyoubuy.
Soeventhough I don't callmyself a minimalistanymore,
Andbuyingniceinordertoavoidbuyingtwice, notonlydoesthismaximizethechancethatyouarebuying a higherqualityitemthatyou'regoingtouseandkeepfor a verylongtime, butitalsoin a wayslowsdownyourbuying.
Becauseittakes a bitmoreworkupfronttobuythething.
Youhavetoresearchit.
Youhavetocomparebrands.
Youhavetogotestitouttoseeifit's rightforyou.
So I thinkhavingthemottoofbuyniceorbuytwiceormypersonalfavorite, I'm toobroketobuycheapsh**, ithelpsslowdownthebuyingandjustensuresthatyoufillyourspaceandspendyourmoneyonthingsthatarehigherqualitythataregoingtolastandthingsthatyou'reactuallygoingtousefor a longtime.
Maybeit's like a reallycoolbrand, butit's threeorfoursizestoobigforyou.
Itcouldendupbeing a lotofworkfor a tailortotransformthatgarmentsothatitactuallyfitsyou, inwhichcaseyou'reprobablybuyingmoreproblemsthanthethingisworth.

If I startfeelingthatwayaboutanything I'm buyingor I feellike I reallyneedtorationalizemywayintomakingthepurchase, then I knowthatit's probablynotforme.
I thinkoneofthecornerstonesofintentionalbuying, intentionalliving, andintentionalspendingishaving a whybehindit.
Becauseifyoufeellikeyoudon't have a goodreasontobuysomething, thenit's notworthyourmoney.
I thinkbreakingdownthewhybeforeyoubuyissuch a helpfulexerciseinreflectingaboutyourwants, needs, andevenyourownshoppingtriggers.
Becauseif I wasreallyhonestwithmyselfanddugdeepintosomewhysbehindsomepurchasesthat I made, a lotofthetimestheywerekindofreallyembarrassingandnotgreatreasons.
Like, I wantthisjustbecauseit's onsale.
I wantthisbecause I can't passupthedeal.
I wantthisbecauseofthebrand, notbecause I likeit.
Soifyougetreallyhonestwithyourselfandkindofdig a littledeeperintothatwhybeforeyoubuy, then I thinkitcanreallyslowdown a lotofthoseimpulsesandsaveyou a wholelotofmoneyandclutterinthelongrun.
