Subtitles section Play video

  • In this video, I'll be ranking every Death Road map from worst to best.

  • I've just added 4 maps recently, and Death Road has now crowded the game with the most maps.

  • But before we start, the most recent map added was Temple.

  • These are my opinions, and my rankings are based off of a runner's perspective.

  • For the most part at least.

  • So starting off with number 19, we have School.

  • This is one of the most overplayed maps.

  • Like seriously bro, calm down man.

  • Like I literally just played this map like 16 times while recording this video.

  • I'm going to sna-

  • School is one of the more iconic Death Run maps, but this map sucks.

  • For starters, this map doesn't even give off school vibes.

  • Great job.

  • Actually great job.

  • The only detail that makes it feel like I'm in a school is the classrooms on each side.

  • You can barely see it.

  • I would have added lockers, posters, or maybe even a wet floor sign to make this feel more like a school hallway.

  • But oh boy, it gets worse.

  • Way worse.

  • So there's this really tough ice section right before the checkpoint.

  • And this checkpoint doesn't even work half the times.

  • So if you die from this rolling log trap for example, you have to redo not only this checkpoint, but this one too, which puts you incredibly behind especially since this is one of the shorter maps.

  • It's still crazy to me how after years this hasn't been fixed.

  • And remember that ice section before the checkpoint?

  • Not only can the death activate each ice platform individually, but this ice trap activates both of the traps.

  • Why?

  • I die because this trap activates both and then when I respawn I think I'm safe but I'm not.

  • Not sure if this is a bug or not, but this should be fixed or removed immediately.

  • If this map was on a tier list, it would probably be at the very bottom of the C tier.

  • Okay, I'm gonna make this very clear.

  • At this current time, I don't know how to feel about this map.

  • Number 18 is Village.

  • This map is one of the more recent maps, yet I don't like playing on this map.

  • Most of the traps come off as annoying and everything else is too difficult.

  • I don't know why the middle and the ending of this map is so hard.

  • And I think it's because of the traps and the placement of them.

  • For example, you die instantly to all of these traps and some parts are impossible to get past even with a leap.

  • Like this one part with the spikes.

  • Number 17 is Prison.

  • I'm gonna be real here, this map doesn't look that good.

  • It doesn't feel like I'm inside a prison and I'm trying to escape it.

  • The courts on the inside doesn't fit and the jail cells at the sides don't even have anything in it.

  • What even is this room with a carrot farm in it?

  • As for the gameplay, most of the traps are either not worth having or just come off as annoying.

  • But a plus with this map is that it's short, so it's quick to complete.

  • Number 16 is Cave.

  • This map looks a bit better than Prison, but I think this map fits the theme way better.

  • But I would have called this map either Dungeon or Stronghold.

  • This map is basic, but it's kind of fun to play on at some parts.

  • Okay I'm not lying when I say this, but while I was editing this video, you know like getting the replay shots and stuff.

  • What is this?

  • What is this?

  • Okay that is actually kind of hilarious, but how did I not notice this whole time I've played this map?

  • Number 15 is Metropolis.

  • This map was originally released as Snow City, but got a non-Christmas version later, which we now know as Metropolis.

  • The beginning of this map is fairly boring with just long sections of streets, but this section that goes underground makes up for it.

  • I don't know why, I just find this more interesting to play.

  • I feel like this map could have done much more, and it was evident that they probably did with this cancelled underground section that I talked about in my Hives Absurd Secrets video.

  • Number 14 is Western.

  • This map is fairly basic, but it does change in some parts and it's a bit fun to play, but nothing too interesting gameplay wise.

  • The gameplay is mostly wide long lines of traps and a few traps are a little annoying, but it is a good map and if it wasn't a tier list it would probably be in the B tier.

  • Number 13 is Venice.

  • This map is inspired off of the Italian city Venice, which is known for kind of being on water, and this map is no different.

  • I mean one of the checkpoints literally references it.

  • This map is like Metropolis, but better in terms of design and the gameplay in some parts of the map.

  • Although short, overall a decent map to play.

  • Number 12 is Relic.

  • This is a decent map, a bit hard, but that's most of its problems.

  • It's a pretty chill map with no annoying traps, although I'm not the biggest fan of the ending.

  • There's this part which could be difficult to do on mobile paired with the TNT, and this floor at the end is just long enough to where you just barely miss finishing the map if you use a leap.

  • Also just like Metropolis, there's another hidden area.

  • So this map was originally supposed to be longer.

  • Number 11 is Primus.

  • I don't really have anything bad to say about it.

  • The theme's pretty good, but other than that it's not a bad map, but not something I can say about it.

  • Just your normal average high death rate map.

  • Now it's time for the most recent map.

  • Temple is number 10.

  • You know what?

  • I actually like what this map has to offer, and the large amount of traps makes me feel more dangerous while playing this map.

  • This map does have some inconsistencies with its difficulty though.

  • Some parts like this one feel way easier than this one, but other than that, it tries something new and it utilizes a lot of the custom blocks.

  • Number 9 is Zoo.

  • This map is classic.

  • It's pretty good, nothing absurdly wrong with it.

  • In fact, I like how they tried something different for the end considering that this is one of the oldest death run maps.

  • There's also this one part where you can choose to either go straight while risking the deaths removing the floor, or climb up here and do some challenging parkour to skip it, which is a gimmick I wish was brought into other death run maps.

  • Number 8 is Sub-Zero.

  • Just like Metropolis, this map was originally a Christmas map.

  • This map was added a long time ago as Snowfall, but got changed to Sub-Zero a year later.

  • The map looks more different, but the same gameplay.

  • Although this map is pretty long, it's always fun to play on.

  • There's this insane shortcut where you can leap onto these birds skipping this fire trap, these puddles, this falling floor, and then onto this arrow section skipping that as well.

  • Pulling this off successfully can be quite clean.

  • The gameplay can be annoying at like two traps, and this map has a lot of ice, but other than that, this map is great.

  • Number 7 is Seaside.

  • I'm actually pleasantly surprised by how good the execution of this map is.

  • I used to not like this map before, but it grew on me.

  • This map keeps it fresh by having many turns and going up.

  • It has good, not annoying gameplay, nice scenery, and contains some shortcuts, such as this large shortcut where you can leap onto this ledge, skipping the water trap, onto these walls, and then onto the arrow trap, skipping that.

  • Not the craziest thing like Sub-Zero, but it is useful and clean to pull off.

  • Overall, a solid Hive Deathrun map.

  • Number 6 is Terminal.

  • Okay, I like what this map has to offer.

  • This map has an awesome theme that I wish was done sooner.

  • When I think of Deathrun, this is the map that should come to mind.

  • And speaking of that, this map feels the most like a Deathrun map, and that adds on to its greatness.

  • I like how dangerous this map feels, and you should feel that while playing Deathrun.

  • Terminal and Temple are perfect examples of this.

  • On Terminal, this part feels dangerous.

  • On Temple, this part feels dangerous.

  • This part also feels dangerous because this ice section sucks.

  • It's so bad.

  • Number 5 is Synthwave.

  • This map is the second most recent map, and visually this map stands out.

  • I mean come on man, you can't tell me this part isn't sick.

  • That's like saying, uh, how do I put this in Hive Skywars terms?

  • That's like saying Volcano isn't a good Skywars map.

  • But in terms of gameplay, it's decent.

  • The first half of this map tries something new with these jumps, but this map takes a huge leap in difficulty, which makes me feel more dangerous, but it can also be a little annoying at some parts.

  • The map gets interesting in the second half though when you enter the club.

  • The main path splits into two smaller paths.

  • The death can activate both of these traps with one button.

  • I'm not sure how I feel about this part as a death, but as a runner, it's certainly unique.

  • There's also automatic TNT traps that go off after a certain amount of time.

  • There is a tiny smoke particle and a TNT sound to let you know that it's about to explode, but I don't think that's enough for newer players visually to see.

  • I had to go into Replay Cinema to find this out.

  • Maybe they should make it so the TNT flickers white like it does in the main game?

  • Then the map ends with BOOTLEG BLOCK PARTY.

  • Oh yeah, oh yeah.

  • Okay, but like the ending itself sucks, like I don't even need to explain myself here.

  • I mean, come on man, just look at it.

  • Number four is Gardens, a really underrated map.

  • This map is the only map to have a different starting room, and this map tries to change it up a bit.

  • Making this map more interesting to play and add shortcuts to it.

  • Every single part of this map is pretty solid, making it one of my favorite maps to play.

  • I just can't seem to get bored of playing on this map.

  • Number three is Toys.

  • This map is awesome, from its gameplay to its design.

  • The gameplay, while being a very short map, manages to have relatively fun, not annoying gameplay throughout the map, like the multiple times where you go up and down and the leap opportunities.

  • And its design.

  • The Hive build team is actually genius.

  • The idea is that you shrunk it down in somebody's bedroom, and the size of this map shows that, but this mouse trap on the floor really empathizes on that idea.

  • There's a lot of clever references hidden around this like Hive cosmetics, but the one that really baffles me is these swords hanged up above this bed, which I've uncovered before in my Hive's Absurd Secrets video, but it's a reference to the Minecraft Battle & Glide minigames, which the creators described it as are you tiny or is everything else just really really big, which fits this map perfectly.

  • You know what, good job Hive.

  • Number two is Viaduct.

  • This map is one of the most underrated and most fun Deathrun maps to play on.

  • Like I've never had a time where I just don't enjoy playing on this map.

  • In this map you go up and down a lot, which adds variation to the gameplay, but there's just something so satisfying about each checkpoint.

  • This map is fairly long and it's difficult because of that, but it doesn't feature any annoying segments.

  • I love this map so much.

  • It's an older map, but it's still a nice breathe of fresh air while playing this.

  • And finally, what is my favorite Hive Deathrun map?

  • Well with Process of Elimination, you should have figured it out by now, but number one is Survival.

  • This map is so clever.

  • The premise of this map is that you're leaving home, you go caving, you enter the nether, into the fortress, then into the stronghold, and then into the end.

  • The diversity of this map makes it really unique, and even being forced into the process of beating the game is a clever concept.

  • This map is one of the longest maps in the game, yet this map manages to have decent gameplay that doesn't come off as annoying for the most part.

  • And I literally made a picture of where the arrows go.
