Angelina Jolie and her daughter Vivian make a rare appearance on the Today Show.

The Oscar winner chats with Hoda Kotb alongside the cast of her new musical, The Outsiders.

Jolie announced in August 2023 that she would be working as a lead producer on the musical, an adaptation of the 1967 novel and Francis Ford Coppola's 1983 film.

During the interview, Hoda makes sure to shout out Angie's 15-year-old daughter, who is in the crowd.

You mentioned your daughter Vivian.

She did.

But I think that's to say for anybody watching and anybody who's going to see this and what they brought forward, this is about family.

And the same reason it responded to her and the same reason she wanted me next to her watching it and the same reason we all hugged when I came out here is because this is about family and it's about community.

And I think when anybody comes to see this, it doesn't stay away from the darker sides of life and a lot that we have to discuss and a lot that we're feeling.

But in the end, it's what gets us through.

And that is family.

So yes, she was the first.

Vivian is a volunteer assistant on the production, and Angie says it was actually who told her the show had recently received a staggering 12 Tony Award nominations.

You know what, I love this group so much and I'm so proud of the work that they've done.

I'm in awe of all of them.

And just when... awards don't always just don't say when something's not nominated, it can also be just the most wonderful piece.

But when people you love and you feel they deserve it and they've worked hard for it do get recognized, it means a great deal.

Back in April, Vivian hit the red carpet alongside her mom at the opening of the Broadway show.

For the family night out, Angie rocked a gold gown underneath an orange cape, while Vivian wore a blue jumpsuit.

Angelina previously said of her daughter in a statement obtained by People magazine, "She isn't focused on being the center of attention, but in being a support to other creatives.

She's very thoughtful and serious about theater and working hard to best understand how to contribute."

Julie continued, "It's been a privilege to be a part of the process. I have so much respect for Broadway and all who work within."

The actress also said she was excited for audiences to see the production, adding "I've been in the theater watching as the first reactions came in, including the often very emotional reaction from young people. It's very moving."
