The company boasts it will change the way we use the Internet by providing specific search answers more quickly.

A chat box will appear beside searches, allowing users to ask questions.

It will use the same technology as ChatGPT, which was launched two months ago.

I talked to Carolina Milanesi, the⏤from The Heart of Tech founder and principal analyst.

I asked her why they're also so keen to get in on the act.

They're keen because the idea of using artificial intelligence to augment the exchange between the human and the search engine will allow for new monetization, new models, from an advertising perspective.

And, of course, for Microsoft, which is a bit of an underdog when it comes to search, there's more flexibility in disrupting the model because they're less dependent on the revenue compared to Google.

So, ChatGPT, as... as it's known, how does that change how... how we search?

Is it... is it a conversation you're having with your monitor, your device, as opposed to typing in, you know, a search?

It's... it's more comprehensive, the way that you ask for the information that you're looking for.

You can get into a conversation.

Microsoft was explaining that, now, Bing will have a chat option, where you're able to refine your search.

For instance, if you're looking for a car and you're given some options, you can then refine based on the... the engine size that you want or how much money you have to spend for that car.

So, it's about refining, but at the core of it, it's really about using natural language to ask that question.

Up until now, we've been trained to ask questions in a... in a way that we think the search engine is going to understand this.

And Microsoft was sharing that pretty much half of the queries don't generate a positive answer.

So, that means that there's definitely room for improvement between the way that we want to talk to a search engine and the answers that we want back.
