  • I am no stranger to guilt.

  • I feel guilty about a lot, particularly all of my crimes.

  • Okay, so let's move on to the state of California versus Akana.

  • How do you plead?

  • With genuine remorse.

  • What?

  • No, I'm sorry. My client is pleading not guilty and requesting all charges be dropped and the prosecution cover all legal for you.

  • So just to confirm you are pleading not guilty, Ms. Akana?

  • I am pleading with my words.

  • I am so sorry for all of my crime.

  • So you admit guilt to the crime?

  • Which one?

  • There's so many.

  • Objection. Your honor, my client is clearly in need of a snack.

  • She's hangry.

  • Her blood pressure has dropped.

  • You know how it is.

  • Sustained.

  • - I never object to a snack. - Wow!

  • Having more women in the judicial system is really paying off.

  • It's making it a better place.

  • Cheetos?

  • - Oh yeah. - I'll have one.

  • Guilt is pervasive in our lives, and though guilt can sometimes be an excellent motivator, a self reflective tool for change or a preventative incentive for us to avoid committing horrific acts like murder.

  • There are some things I really don't think we should feel guilty for, like needing external validation.

  • Okay, hear me out.

  • I think external validation gets a bad rap because everything in our lives right now is a morally designed to make us addicted to it.

  • But when the need for external validation is balanced and healthy, it helps shape our behavior for the better our understanding of ourselves, the world, and what we might be good at.

  • - Oh my God! You guys! - What?

  • I just discovered I do an amazing Bo Burnham impression.

  • - Oh my God. - Let us see.

  • But look, I made you some content.

  • Daddy made you your favorite open wide.

  • Here comes the content and it's a beautiful day to stay inside.

  • Oh my God, that was amazing.

  • - Oh my God, you should be on SNL! - Oh my God, you guys stop!

  • No, you should steal his identity because that was uncanny.

  • You should kill him because you're basically his clone and only one of you can survive.

  • Oh my God, you guys. Thank you, I love this external validation.

  • Another thing you should stop feeling guilty about? Liking attention.

  • This is my hot take.

  • But attention feels good.

  • It makes us feel worthy, wanted, cared for.

  • Too often, we label someone who openly likes attention as a narcissist and it's typical for us to expect people to play humble.

  • But let's face it, attention feels freaking great and as long as you're not doing absolutely terrible things in order to get it, who cares?

  • What is that?

  • What is that?

  • - Money? - Jewelry?

  • I don't want that. Put it away.

  • I want attention.

  • I want your undivided attention.

  • - Yes, girl. - Queen! - You're so fired. - Clap faster.

  • - You're so beautiful! - Yes. Queen! Yes! - You're so fired!

  • - More. - I want you. You are so hot! - More!

  • And I definitely want to stop feeling guilty about rest and relaxation.

  • Stop feeling guilty about the things you can't change.

  • Man, I feel really guilty about all this.

  • Yeah, I mean, I'm out of most people's control.

  • But you definitely did this

  • And finally, stop feeling guilty about yourself, your body, your existence, the kind of life you want to have, and the decisions you're making to get there.

  • So often, I know people who feel guilty for wanting to follow their dreams in case it lets other people down.

  • Don't! Just stop!

  • There was this amazing Ted talk I saw about how every cell within the body has a job, and every cell inherently knows what its job is, its purpose.

  • And when cells go against their purpose, we call that cancer.

  • So know who you are, know why you're here and stop letting guilt get in the way of that and turn you into the human embodiment of cancer.

  • Don't be cancer.

I am no stranger to guilt.
