  • Hello everyone it's Jennifer from Tarle Speech  with your 2 for Tuesday homophone lesson.

  • Homophones are words that are pronounced  exactly the same way. So these words  

  • are pronounced the same way but they have  different meanings and different spellings.

  • So our words today are quarts  which is a unit of liquid measure  

  • and quartz which is a hard mineral a rock crystal.

  • So to say these words correctly we're  going to start with that k sound.  

  • To do this tip of your tongue is  low back of your tongue is pulled  

  • high up. Next move to a pucker for that w. And  then we're going to pull the lips back to say the  

  • or sound. You want to end that sound with the tip  of the tongue very low in the mouth and the back  

  • of the tongue pulled high up. Yes, if you've  been watching my videos you know you can also  

  • flip the tongue back for that er sound in that orThen you're going to touch the tip of the tongue  

  • to the back of the top front teeth for the t. And  then pull it down while you switch to letting the  

  • air continue out for that s. Yes this is ansound even though we do spell that word with a z.

  • Let's put that all together k-w-or-t-s 

  • quartz 

  • quartz quartz 

  • quartz quartz quartz quartz

  • And now for a sentence: I washed  the quartz with two quarts of water.
