  • well I'm your host Jordan's, I'm here with ian Alex sarah, we've got Christina and shortly behind the camera it is the whole crew here today and today we are doing something very special.

  • We are checking out vegetarian options in Tokyo, you excited guys, loving some vegan options, absolutely ready for it.

  • We have a whole bunch of things that we got ramen curry, we got snacks, burgers.

  • What should we start with?

  • Boys and girls stop with the current.

  • We've separated the curry into tiny balls so guys ready, let's use shall we?

  • I don't do this.

  • I one thing I've noticed being in Japan for quite a long time is that previously vegan food you can find very specific vegan restaurants but a lot of chains like coco, it's a very, you guys must know there's other burger places way back burgers who really focus on.

  • But all these major change now they all seem to have some kind of vegan option which certainly wasn't the case.

  • Even like yes, that's things like vegan soul has changed over the last 10 years.

  • Like 5, 10 years ago me and my friend came to japan, vertical, Robin's still, my friend wanted a vegan ramen to ourselves, vegan.

  • Ramen brings up the ramen special incomes on it.

  • So what's the soup that was, that's the problem like a lot of the places I understand like you know what vegan meant really, but like places like they have like really good like actual vegan vegetarian options and even like the curry itself, it's interesting, they have a lot of veggies in here and I can taste a lot of skin on, also pickled veggies and it complements the kind of sweet spiciness of the japanese curry.

  • And I'm surprised how accurate the flavor is pretty good.

  • I don't think if, unless you're someone who is looking for the meat, you wouldn't notice that it's vegan and I think that's when they do a good job, especially with this kind of fast food stuff.

  • So long as you don't notice years and years and years ago I went to a burger king.

  • Remember I asked for like a vegetarian burger and I basically got the Whopper without the meeting.

  • So just the patty and the lettuce.

  • Oh no, it's not wrong.

  • But I was expecting like a bean.

  • That's so sad.

  • I do occasionally go to vegan restaurants, restaurants just to try out, you know, different kinds of vegan food out there because actually recently there's a boom or spike in the number of vegan restaurants and even the convenient, like the local shops or stores, like snacks and like that convening again, that has natural awesome.

  • This is something that she picked up for us.

  • It's from Beer Row.

  • So it's inside one of the supermarkets here called life and they have a whole range of vegan products right here.

  • What we have is like rice, but it's sadly not vegan and vegetarian because it has egg and cheese, but they have like instant chinese cooking things.

  • They have instant soup based soup base, soy meat.

  • Yeah, it looked amazing and it was reasonably priced.

  • I feel like if you're trying to eat like meat free or vegan stuff, everything's really expensive like vegan cheese and all that.

  • But this place was reasonable.

  • So yeah, surprisingly I want to make these vegan noodles so mine is the original tan tan noodle soup.

  • Sawyer come on this one.

  • Thanks.

  • So I'm going to try the vegetarian taco rice.

  • It looks so good.

  • Is it actually so neat?

  • Put it on the lips, it's fine.

  • You need to make the noodles anyway, so they use soy meat and it's flavored heavily.

  • So I mean the texture is fine, it's chewy for me, it's great.

  • Like I'm not too fussy I would recommend And it's not that bad.

  • It was like 600 yen.

  • About $6, A reasonably heavy meal like they can take on the boat, I would guide.

  • That's pretty cheap.

  • Yeah the good thing about this one is, it tells you what allergens there are inside here in english.

  • So this one doesn't have meat, fish, egg, milk msg is, have you guys heard it?

  • Really?

  • So this is one of the best places in Tokyo to go for ramen vegan and they have a few locations so there's three that are around the town, there's one in Tokyo station and then, but then they have to Narita Airport, that one.

  • Honestly the one Ian has the best job, I've never seen this before but I placed on the warm while waiting to soup confirms that have you had before the standard one.

  • Do you like it?

  • Because it's kind of like this heavier noodle base where they originally used milk so it's actually not too far Megan.

  • They just have to substitute the meat.

  • Yeah, I love that.

  • You can get like a soup based one dry one.

  • There's a restaurant where I live and they have the drywall.

  • It always gets angry because there's a cook, the super way I like it let him enjoy his food.

  • Like this one that one that you were just eating that's from a chain supermarket in section.

  • But I've noticed other like supermarkets, the intersection so myself and Emma, we often message each other when we find something kind of vegan and the one thing that kind of would always stop me.

  • The one thing I thought couldn't be replicated.

  • I mean what they say in japanese, someone who loves mayonnaise mayonnaise on everything.

  • I put mayonnaise on everything.

  • I had vegan Emma recommended me vegan mayonnaise.

  • No, no they probably did the big brand mayonnaise but no one from I think the same.

  • One more question.

  • I got I got a little trivia thing so my Allah you can only use la with I think it's like you can't say that like ketchup, it doesn't mean you like that but I found out recently we have to ask shorty to confirm if it's true or not but I found this one which is coriander.

  • Someone who loves, Can you guess what it is?

  • Well, I know one guy who calls himself, Ian is down to the hip, young japanese, vegan noodles already.

  • Let's give him a girl sour, spicy and hot.

  • That's not bad at all.

  • I'm not a man that likes instant ramen but this is actually very durable.

  • Alright, can I try, I'm uh which is precisely why I took you you sorry Sarah the other day is Blue jam cafe in juba.

  • Yeah, it's, it's a shame it's actually moving location soon.

  • It's gonna be closed for a little while but which is why we went to check it out and we had another reason why we were actually on tv japanese star.

  • If you want to find out more on why we were on tv check out the link down in the description below.

  • We have a new blog post about, I love cafe.

  • The food is really good but that's not actually just a vegan restaurant.

  • Just have lots of vegan options.

  • It's easy there.

  • There's actually one more reason whether the art to the store is fantastic and perhaps someone to my right and it was about the art like it's so good.

  • I started a little side project a little while ago and in a number of cafes and restaurants in Tokyo.

  • I have some frames on the wall and each month I rotate the artists in there and the cafe is kind of like to change the artwork and we're gonna have some events and stuff like that.

  • But right now, including cafe this month, chris paul of all people.

  • It's artwork is on the walls.

  • There's my little project called heartedly and check it out to be amazing.

  • It's not just the gallery things.

  • Also, once a month in Tokyo in one of the locations, we have a big event and we got the first one this month.

  • So if anyone is visiting Japan in the future, watching this, check out the article dot com website and please come to a future event and you can meet people, free drinks, free drinks to drive.

  • This one is the vegan Mossberg Greenberger, Greenberger.

  • So ultimately it's a plant based and moss burger is actually the first ever fast food restaurant in Japan to produce a plant based burger.

  • How amazing burger, it actually comes with this.

  • This is a teriyaki mayonnaise.

  • So we call it, I never saw this until I moved to Japan and it's the greatest Piece of engineering I think I've seen in the last 10 years basically when you buy something from a convenient, like you can get like the American dogs, they call it, which is like a corn dog, which comes with like a ketchup thing.

  • But instead of having a little sachet where you rip it and get it everywhere.

  • You just, you just click these together and put it out on.

  • Oh, sexy.

  • There's a lot of sauce.

  • Silence.

  • Nice.

  • No smalls burger.

  • This burger, the patty is made up of three items, cabbage, corn and soybeans and then the bun is actually, it should be green, but it's not green today.

  • I've sliced up the burger's pretty good.

  • Guys go for it.

  • I don't like raw tomato.

  • Yes way.

  • Do you guys know what this mountain?

  • Ocean sky?

  • No, very close mountain ocean sun Mountain standing tall and firm, like a mountain having the heart is broad and deep as the ocean and having passion.

  • Like the sun that never burns out, Tastes reasonable, reasonable.

  • I prefer no sauce and it's like 80% sauce.

  • The last thing we have to try various.

  • I feel like in Japan in the last couple years, definitely the food side of Muji has grown and I do a lot of my food shopping in movie, because there's.

  • it's like pre made like curries and sauces, but there's such a variety now as, as you can see here and also like eating stuff, you can get soy soy hamburg steaks can get soy, like minced meat, you can get soy like nuggets.

  • There's so many different styles of like soy meats available from now.

  • So I'm very excited.

  • I want to open the spinach stick stable.

  • Found something he likes roasted green tea ones.

  • Thank you.

  • This one is actually really good fruit chips.

  • I like chicks.

  • So I got an apple.

  • Um so inside here there's also simmons so known as cocky and Japanese which is apparently Emma's favorite way.

  • So you want to eat like Emma by these wait word of caution.

  • There are some restaurants or products that says plant based items on it but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's vegan or vegetarian.

  • So just be careful golden back use google translate, try to like see what you're allergic to can't eat.

  • That's the best way to go about it.

  • Well happy cow, which is kind of globally used but it's very commonly used here too.

  • If you guys are living in japan, there's a weekly subscription based service that you can get where you can order meal, kids.

  • Oliver, it's made from fresh ingredients from all the farmers around Japan and they offer a vegan option.

  • So vegan option is from purple carrot, purple carrots, an american based website and they have incorporated like all the vegan recipes inside basically everything, all the ingredients like carrots, tomatoes, they're all like pre portioned for you, let's say to make this dish for example, you only need like half a carrot for example, so that's all they're going to give you and they're gonna give you like proportion.

  • Exactly and it's super easy.

  • Anyone can do it and but Michaela shorty and myself are on the subscription, it's great, it's always six boy s I.

  • X easy to navigate if you don't read japanese, that's fine, turn on google translate one more time.

  • That's how I do it.

  • No, and the good news is now they have it in some supermarkets.

  • You might see a section that says the kids are all there, but this is not sponsored you like it was a lot of choices.

  • Guys, I've been a lot of vegan food.

  • These guys had a lot of vegan food.

  • I'm feeling really cool.

  • I'm gonna go take a nap.

  • So guys, until next time.

  • I'll see you later.

  • Oh my God, get off me.

  • Bye bye.

  • Hey.
