  • Yeah, yeah.

  • Yeah.

  • Look at you.

  • Oh no more time with youtube with.

  • No, they don't.

  • Yeah.

  • In the brand new abroad in Japan Studio right here.

  • Let's check it out.

  • It's amazing.

  • That's my thing.

  • Yeah.

  • Sometimes sometimes people.

  • Mm hmm.

  • Good.

  • Take it off.

  • Take off you son of a bit.

  • Which you've actually done it for once in your life.

  • You've done something that is amazing.

  • This is so bloody trippy.

  • I can't put it into words.

  • Like I've had this set a week now, right.

  • And I've been coming here every day looking around and it's just just mental.

  • It's a trippy.

  • What's going on?

  • This is it though guys, it took nine years, 200 videos and a lot of sleepless nights editing to get to this point.

  • But finally we have a space to film and make videos for the abroad in Japan channel.

  • I can't wait To show you around here in the next few minutes because the level of detail in here is absolutely astonishing.

  • This is a professional film grade set.

  • Built by a professional team, not myself.

  • If I built it, it would have fallen down by now.

  • Probably burned down half the building and half of it is massive.

  • It's broken into two streets over on that street.

  • We have a retro electronic shop.

  • A sweet store from the 1960s and the whole shop is covered in sweet switch to be fair.

  • Probably won't last very long with me around.

  • And then here on this side we have an alleyway filled with lots of pipes and lighting and a kind of scale ramen shop inspired by the opening scene of Blade Runner, one of my favorite films.

  • And I guess this entire set is inspired by Blade Runner, the cyberpunk genre and 19 sixties retro Japan.

  • I'm gonna give you guys the complete tour in a minute through the eyes of nasty corner and pete none of you have seen it and all of which I expect to damage the set beyond repair before that.

  • I thought I'd talk about how and why we've done this.

  • Starting perhaps with why, why have we built this set?

  • In the nine years?

  • I've been producing videos and abroad in Japan for the videos shot inside.

  • I've always shot them inside my apartment.

  • Each apartment smaller than the last surrounded by fake plants and dirty laundry.

  • It's not ideal and it's never been fun And for that reason as the years have gone on, I've actually filmed in there less and less.

  • One factor that I always complain about is that the wolves are really thin and so I can't really film videos after seven or eight PM because my neighbors can hear me talking and I sure as hell can hear them as well.

  • Not only that, but the size limitations mean I've never really been able to have guests come up like we had Conor come up earlier this year and we ate some chicken in a room and that was a nightmare trying to fit both of us in the shop though to be fair, that might also have had something to do with the staggering amount chicken we ate, but between the size limitations and the noise limitations, it's just been a bit silly and at this point unprofessional.

  • Like it's been a real roadblock on my own creativity.

  • And so I love filming indoors.

  • I don't want to spend the rest of my life filming abandoned buildings or rapping on the summit of a volcano.

  • I want to come back indoors to where abroad in Japan began.

  • So two months ago I started renting the studio.

  • It's a converted apartment here in Sendai and as you can see it's nothing too special.

  • There is a sofa, there's a table, a white board covered in nothing and a disturbingly underwhelming kitchen, which I can't wait to film a cooking show inside, even though the cooker doesn't work because I haven't paid the gas bill, probably should do that.

  • But I knew this could be the first and last time that I get to have a studio and so I wanted to build my dream set, something that I only ever thought would be possible in my imagination.

  • So I knew that I couldn't build this set.

  • I knew I needed a team of people that knew what they were doing.

  • So once I've sketched out some ideas, I went to a proper film set company, the same company that worked on netflix shows like Alice in borderland.

  • Once they learned that I wanted a ramen shop with the cyberpunk kind of vibe.

  • A sweet shop and a sort of 19 sixties japanese retro street.

  • They went out traveling around Japan, finding a staggering amount of props and items from across the country.

  • Everything here is real and the lights have been taken, hopefully not stolen but taken from real shops across Japan.

  • Once the team of the props, they set about building the set in a warehouse down in Tokyo over a period of several weeks before shipping it all up here to Sendai and assembling it over three days now.

  • Unsurprisingly it wasn't cheap to build a set like this, but unlike traditional film sets that are built with a lot of love and care and then torn down after a film shoot, this set will hopefully be here for not just weeks and months but years like I hope to film so much content here.

  • So it's kind of a gamble building this on the future of abroad in Japan and I guess I guess myself to some degree and while it's all technically complete, I'm still going to be adding things along the way, like this brand new pac man arcade game which you can actually play and loser before we let Nowitzki loosen here and explore the streets together.

  • I just want to say a huge, massive thank you to everyone who's watched abroad in Japan all these years, it's hard for me to break character and stop being cynical or sarcastic, but it's been an extraordinary year, not just getting a studio and a set, but also doing things like journey across Japan wacky weekend, even meeting ken Watanabe, I still can't believe that happened.

  • Was I dreaming was it real?

  • It's ridiculous.

  • But that's coming out later this year as well and I can't wait to share that with you guys because we can't cover everything in today's video.

  • I will be shooting a Q and a video next week.

  • So if you have any questions about the film set about bringing Japan about where I get my fashionable black shirts from, I wear in every video far away in the comments and I'll answer as many as I can and now it's time to let Nowitzki loose on the set and probably destroy it.

  • Let's go.

  • Mhm.

  • Here he is.

  • The man at the moment, very much how you mad song.

  • What do you think?

  • Oh, new smell, It has a new smell, good.

  • But anyway, here's your bit cu and a blindfold which is months because I couldn't find a real blindfold.

  • Shadow blindfold shut down.

  • Why, Why?

  • Because it's time to see the new set, are you ready?

  • Oh yeah, what's behind the door?

  • She don't con a voice actor.

  • Hello chris wants to film my reaction to his set, which he's been talking about for months to know and telling me it's the best thing ever and probably was when jesus was christened or something definitely was.

  • So here we are, the big reveal.
