  • hello and greetings from buenos aires argentina  in today's video we're going to be taking you on

  • a breakfast tour across the city showing you the  different types of breakfast you can enjoy here

  • we'll hit up a regular neighborhood coffee shop  where the pastries are freshly baked and the

  • coffee mugs are deep we'll also visit a classic  old world cafe that oozes history and charm

  • and lastly we'll visit a more contemporary  cafe with some more savory food options

  • so with that in mind let's go see what  we can eat in buenos aires for breakfast

  • alright guys so day one of our argentine breakfast  challenge today we're going to kick things off

  • with just an average local neighborhood coffee  spot so it's just around the corner we go here all

  • the time when we're staying in the neighborhood  of almagro it's a place where you get big cups

  • of coffee media lunas and it's just like your  average spot like people who are stopping here are

  • on their way to work or maybe just coming to read  the newspaper so yeah very classic local let's go

  • so we got two different styles of the classic  argentine breakfast sam got the completo which i

  • would call the greedy guts breakfast this is gonna  get a little bit of everything yeah and i went for

  • more of a traditional cafe in media lunas and my  favorite thing about this coffee shop is the size

  • of their coffee cups it's not every restaurant  that gives you a coffee cup this size this is

  • almost like a mug they're just huge they're hugefeel like i'm getting two coffee cups in one here

  • oh and it's good coffee good way to start  the morning and of course i paired it

  • with the media lunas which are kind of like  croissants they're very buttery and doughy

  • fluffy it's almost like biting into a cloud and  with these ones you can get the salty variety

  • which is made with lard or you can get the  sweet variety which has a sugar glaze over top

  • yeah so you had the classic porteño breakfast  which is the media lunas and the cafe

  • i am getting the tostado breakfast yeah and so  this comes basically with sliced toast then you

  • also get fizzy soda water you get orange juice  fresh squeezed by the way and it also comes with

  • these cookies come for both of us we basically  get two each they're cookies with little jam

  • in the middle with quince jam and then i've gotnice little dollop of cream and then you also have

  • peach jam and strawberry jam to go along with them  and of course the giant cup cafe con leche yes you

  • know what like your dad said this before but it's  so true you're gonna get your best cup of coffee

  • in all of argentina and buenos aires for sure  there's just such a high standard at the cafes

  • agreed this is like italian coffee and to come in  such a large mug this is like exactly what i want

  • because normally i have two or three cups  of coffee in the morning when i'm at home

  • so this is almost like two or three cops in  this giant vlog yeah we could have chosen any

  • neighborhood cafe but we wanted to come to this  one for today's argentine breakfast because of the

  • size of the yeah and just to show you that like  you don't have to be in the most touristy spot in

  • the city to get to get such a great breakfast like  this this is just a super residential area i will

  • say this breakfast like with toast and jam it's  the kind of thing that's eaten across the whole

  • country across all of argentina yes typically  i'd say more with the butter than cream cheese

  • but this is like a classic argentine breakfast  across the board these these the two things that

  • we got are by far the most common what's most  interesting though is the the media lunas that

  • you got are especially popular in buenos aires  yeah that's the point of size breakfast exactly

  • that's really good i'm indulging my sweet  tooth early in the morning here guys

  • and i wanted to show you guys the soda water  this is to cleanse the palate in between

  • all the sips of coffee and all the  sugary bites and the sugary bites yeah

  • so price point for that buenos aires breakfast  keep in mind that was a lot of food a lot of

  • food so the total was 350 pesos which right now is  5.80 i would say that is a bargain for everything

  • we got everything we eat actually that includes  a second cup of coffee because somebody liked it

  • so much that he was like you know what i need one  more indeed so i mean if you just got everything

  • we showed you it'd probably be like five bucks  alright guys so today we are taking you out for a

  • fancy breakfast a little something different from  what we showed you yesterday and we have come to

  • one of my favorite cafes in all of buenos aires  this place is called petit colon and it oozes

  • elegance it is just so beautiful it is one  block away from teatro colon which is the

  • biggest grandest theater in the whole city so yeah  we're gonna be taking you for argentine breakfast

  • we've beaten here many times before and  we hope you enjoy it as much as i do

  • so i'm going to start with the croissant the  medialuna stuffed with ham and cheese what i

  • really like about this is the combination of like  sweet and savory you've got the sweetness of the

  • croissant which has a glaze over top but then the  savory of the ham and the cheese a really nice

  • combination even if it seems a bit strange like  why would you put those two together but i like it

  • this is very good i highly recommend trying  it if you find yourself here in buenos aires

  • it's also known as a mafaldastuffed croissant is a mafalda

  • so if you see that on the menu  you know what you're getting

  • now some crisps it's nice to be having something  a little salty for breakfast too we have a lot

  • of sweets most breakfasts are sweet unless you  order like the ham and cheese grilled sandwich

  • you can also do that as a breakfast food item but  here in argentina it's mostly a sweet breakfast

  • and then for today's drink we wanted to show you  the submarine it means submarine and basically

  • it's just a cup of hot milk and they give you  a piece of chocolate it's from the brand aguila

  • and then you drop the chocolate into the  milk like a little submarine you wait

  • for it to start to melt and then you mix it  and you get like this sort of hot chocolate

  • the flavors of my childhood oh and then we had  two little bites of cake and that kind of just

  • came with breakfast i've already devoured one but  it's like a vanilla sponge cake with icing sugar

  • on top so it was very very good so yum yum well  well guys if audrey went for the salty breakfast

  • i am doing the exact opposite this is a decadent  sweet tooth breakfast and as you can see over here

  • i've got fancy pastries yes you do so these are  called facturas the one over here has some jam

  • on the end and then this part has custard now over  here we've got um custard and then a giant dollop

  • of dulce de leche delicious argentine caramel and  then over here is a special alfajor i was hoping

  • to get the homemade one the mycena which is just  the cookie and the dulce de leche with cornstarch

  • yeah but this one they didn't have that but  this one's a little fancier this has a chocolate

  • coating on top and then it also has some some nuts  sprinkled and then i got a fancy cappuccino with

  • cinnamon corn canela you need some sugar you  know what i think it could be good on its own

  • oh yeah it doesn't need sugar i mean you  could add it if you wanted it but such a

  • nice cinnamon cappuccino all right i'm just  going to indulge in these so i'm going to

  • bore your knife i'm going to try a bite first the  jam that one is quince jam it is called membrillo

  • the thing i love so much about quinn's  jam in argentina is just how tart it is

  • yes tart and sweet okay let's  move on to the custard part

  • it tastes a little bit like  the custard you'd find in a

  • you know a north american donut  like a boston cream doughnut

  • exactly all right guys this is maybe the most  decadent of all the one with dulce de leche

  • that's by far my favorite not only is it  sweet with dulce de leche but it's also got

  • a dusting of icing sugar on top and those are  like the three main ingredients that you find

  • in factors it's either custard yeah quince  jam or dude so we were able to try them all

  • now guys this should be really interesting  once i break this in half you can see

  • the alpha horror and all of its glory  look at that we have the chocolate coating

  • the nuts the cookie the dulce de leche  in the middle and another layer of cookie

  • my goodness is it ever tasty  this is kind of the ultimate

  • fancy breakfast you can have in buenos  aires it's just it's phenomenal the

  • everything is just so fresh and delicious and  well made and it's the environment here is just

  • spectacular i even like the music they've got like  a jazzy piano going on in the background and it's

  • just like i don't know even people people who  come here it just feels like you want to linger

  • you don't want to just come in and wolf down your  food and leave it's a place to linger it's a place

  • to read your newspaper nice place to come that was  marvelous how are you feeling after that oh that

  • was just the ultimate the ultimate fancy breakfast  seriously so good and it wasn't that expensive

  • like the total came to 10 us dollars for both of  us to eat in such a beautiful setting which is

  • what's just over 600 pesos 650 pesos yeah just  a little over ten dollars five bucks per person

  • we ate really well i'm beyond satisfied and  yeah if you come to buenos aires another place

  • worth adding to your list petit colon check it  out well guys today we are introducing you to the

  • third type of breakfast a contemporary breakfast  so we've come to a place called tostado where

  • we're going to be trying different toasts and  sandwiches but it's not going to be the classic

  • ham and cheese grilled sandwich that you get here  in argentina this is more of a modern twist a

  • contemporary version of it plus we've also ordered  toast with salmon toast with guacamole which i

  • feel like is just ultimate hipster breakfast  so we've got that coming some tropical juices

  • a coffee for sam and yeah a different type of  breakfast that you can enjoy here in buenos aires

  • breakfast time breakfast  time so i've got a giant mug

  • of cafe con leche yes which is always  a good way to start off the morning

  • indeed and then i have salmon toast which is  basically scrambled eggs with salmon and um

  • alfalfa and some veggies as well i see tomatoes  and different greens oh that looks cute

  • oh it's really good it's got a tangy  sauce as well too oh that's delicious

  • nice brown bread this is a really good  contemporary argentine breakfast oh my my

  • that beer is getting out of hand kind of is and  i've got fresh squeezed orange juice on the bottom

  • and why use a glass when you can  drink it straight from the bottom

  • good stuff i got the avocado toast all right  so this is a really tasty avocado toast we've

  • got a whole grain bread that has lots of  seeds and nuts and then we've got like our

  • guacamole so it's not just avocado i feel like  this is guacamole like it's got a bit of lemon

  • juice and some onions there's a little something  going on there and then we've got like this fluffy

  • thin omelette that's been folded  in half put on top of the toast

  • we've got some alfalfa sprouts and yeah it's just  really really tasty i'm quite pleased with this

  • and then on the other hand there's the grilled  cheese sandwich that we just stretched before your

  • eyes so you can see how cheesy it really is and  this grilled ham and cheese sandwich is definitely

  • more north american style like here  in argentina it's usually that like

  • thin spongy bread with like the ham and cheese  but this is like a much thicker slice of bread

  • buttered and toasted like on both sides and for  my drink i got maracuda which is passion fruit

  • it is a passion fruit juice so it tastes nice  and tropical and brings back memories of brazil

  • good breakfast overall yeah that was breakfast  actually more like a brunch today so it came to

  • 800 pesos which is currently 13 us dollars and  that included the two juices the three pieces

  • of toast and the coffee to be honest guys those  pieces of toast and that sandwich were really

  • big one would have been enough per person oh yeah  this is technically enough food for three people

  • three sandwiches three drinks exactly we basically  ordered breakfast for three and it came to 13

  • so a good deal and yeah very tasty here  i would come back here again for sure
