  • What's going on Sarah? Joshua's Tanabata.

  • Joshua's Tanabata! Are you going to get all dressed up for it?

  • Um hum Nice!

  • [Life in Japan Theme Song]

  • Dude! You look sweet!

  • Are you ready for your Tanabata?!

  • Sarah Bear, come on in!

  • Look at you, honey! So cute!

  • So cool!

  • Spikey-hair boy.

  • Are you "Spikey-hair boy?"

  • And the beautiful princess Sarah.

  • Very nice.

  • Tanabata is a summertime Japanese tradition that each one of our kids experienced when they were in kindergarten.

  • This year is Joshua's last year participating before he moves on to elementary school,

  • so this one will be our last one as parents as well!

  • The kids are growing up so fast!

  • If you're interested in the story about Tanabata, we have a whole video about it, so please check it out!

  • Drink break!

  • Ok let Sarah have some!

  • So Sarah- when was your last Takabata? It's been awhile, huh?

  • I know what Joshua's going to do...

  • He's going to hold some sticks and he's going to dance with them.

  • Hey Sarah! We've got a great spot to watch Joshua's Tanabata, huh? Mmm Hmm.

  • Isn't it nice? You're just barely tall enough to see from up here.

  • Joshua saw us!

  • Do you see him walking around in circles there?

  • Oh he's there with Aiden now- that's cool!

  • Alright Aiden!

  • Hey Dude!

  • You're going to get a picture with Aiden, right?

  • We'll do a happy face and then we'll do a pose.

  • No, no silly faces.

  • I want to do a happy face first. Let's do a happy face and then a pose.

  • Smile normal. Get a little closer.

  • I want to do a funny one... Do normal.

  • Joshua- how was the Takabata Matsuri?

  • Good.

  • What was your favorite part?

  • Like the Ninja dance. Like "don don." I like that.

  • Oh that was cool, huh? The Ninja dance!

  • Show me the Ninja pose.

  • Yes! Awesome.

  • Yeah, that was my favorite dance too.

  • There's some leftovers for lunch, and after lunch I can make a big bowl of popcorn.

  • Yeah. And maybe have some ice cream, since you didn't get some last night.

  • So momma chan... Yes...

  • If you think about it, this was our last Tanabata.

  • I know. I have very mixed feelings.

  • As our little boy grows up.

  • My goodness! Crazy.

  • Next year: two in elementary and 2 in junior high school.

  • What's going on here tonight, Ruth? We're having a pizza party.

  • And also we're going to pick out which kimonos the girls are going to wear for their graduation from 6th grade.

  • Whoa.

  • You have to figure it out about 8 months before so that you get good choices

  • And I also have to go ahead and reserve the hair salon

  • Because at the salon they will dress the girls and do their hair.

  • I don't know how to put on those things, so salons do it.

  • Did you already make your reservation?

  • No, not yet! Not yet?!

  • Tomorrow... You'll call?

  • Look at all this pizza, wow! Awesome.

  • Hello! Hello.

  • It looks delicious, Anna!

  • Mommy, what is this?!

  • Raspberry lemonade.

  • I put berries in it.

  • And it's sweet? Sweet.

  • Is this exciting girls?

  • Yes. Yes?

  • Oh girls, which one are you going to chose?

  • You taking funny pictures? Yes!

  • Funny pictures! What's going on?

  • I'm going to fall, Anna stop! Anna stop!

  • So we looked and looked and looked so we're going to do a little bit more searching

  • Because we could buy them for the same price as renting,

  • But then, it's like...

  • You buy this part, and then you have to buy this part...

  • And what if I don't buy it correctly because I don't know anything about kimonos.

  • Or how to put them on or what you need or what you don't need...

  • So we're going to keep looking and hopefully be able to rent a full set.

  • I see! Ok, very good. That's the plan.

  • Is it haircut time, dude?!

  • Haircut time! Look up, please.

  • Your hair is like "Yes, finally a haircut."

  • My eye hurts!

  • OK, stop now. Maybe we should get his switch, because he stays...

  • Or my phone

  • Oh my goodness!

  • What? Wait! Wait! Stay like that.

  • It's not done yet, you have part of a side

  • Here.

  • Oh it's looking good, it's looking good!

  • The haircut is finished, it looks good!

  • Oh it looks good Dude.

  • Feel good?

  • Is this your computer from school?

  • Yeah, I have one too. Each one of you got one?

  • You got one too, Sarah?! Wow!

  • Oh wow I need to connect it to the internet.

  • I know how to do it. Becca you need to tap right here.

  • Oh my goodness, wow!

  • School started this year. Kawasaki schools started teach with computers. You have a hair on your camera.

  • So does your homework show up on here then?

  • No, I just can do anything. I need to do three or more.

  • Oh yea?

  • But you can only do arithmetic or language

  • Sarah, you too! Oh my goodness! They gave a second grader a Chrome book?!

  • I sure hope we don't have to pay for these if anything happens to them.

  • We need to. (Whining) I want one too!

  • You want a Chromebook?!

  • Oh how cool is that, Anna? This is the nicest thing, look!

  • You're doing it too, Becca?

  • These go on the plane with me. I need a little bag for...

  • It's happening, huh?

  • It's happening.

  • Packing.

  • Packing for the big trip.

  • Passports, important documents, medicines in case the kids get sick on the plane.

  • Oh my, lot of stuff not to forget!

  • Joey's like, I'm gonna get the ground.

  • Oh, the feet! I'm gonna wash your feet for you.

  • Bye!

  • It's finally a nice day. We're going to go fly the drone, huh dude?

  • Yeah, for the second time.

  • For the second time, but this time you might be able to try it for a little bit if you want. Would that be fun? Yeah.

  • Alright, Big J and I are heading down to the river, right? Yeah.

  • A place where we can fly the drone.

  • It's too heavy for you? Should I take it? Yeah.

  • Take it back, huh daddy?

  • Ok, up here, up here.

  • The sunflowers. Mommy loves the sunflowers.

  • Ok, we found I think the perfect place, right?

  • You found a stick?

  • We've got plenty of space on all sides and a clear area to fly. Let's do this thing.

  • I'm going to take off right from here. Can you make a circle around it?

  • Let's go over here, ok?

  • Ok, here we go.

  • Cool huh?

  • Ok, you want to push it? Ok, you push it forward, it goes forward.

  • Ok, so hold it like the Nintendo, and then you push it forward, it goes forward.

  • Ok, then you let go and pull backwards now.

  • Cool, huh? Yeah.

  • Was that cool dude? Yeah. What did you think of your first flight? Was it fun? I want to do it another time. You want to do it again? Ok, here we go.

  • I don't need any more practice.

  • Ok, Joshua's going to do his first landing. Alright Joshua, you want to do your first landing?

  • Ok, now push down. Ready?

  • You did it! High five!

  • Alright, lets go home, ok? Ok. Yeah! Let's go.
