I came from a man until there's no one saving steps past Paul Bryant with his seventh national championship.

What you do speak so loudly they don't matter what you say.

Nick Saban this week named the winner of the Paul Bear Bryant Coach of the Year award for the 2020 season.

It's the second time he's gotten the national honor and its 35 year history, and the first time he's done so in Alabama.

He also won in 2003 while he was at L S U.

He led Bama to a 13 and no record and the national title this season.

We now welcome in Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark, who both played for Nick Saban at L s u in the early two thousands.

You were part of savings.

First of seven national championships as head coach back in 2003.

From your time with him.

Why was he so successful, Jay?

The only answer is he all works.

Everybody, man, hey, surrounds himself with tremendous talent on the coaching staff, I believe six or seven coaches from the staff of our 2003 national championship went on to be head coaches or big time coordinators at other places.

His philosophy of success is not a continual.

It's something that you have to grant and go after every single day.

And to get players to really buy into that is very difficult, man.

So he's had that ability to not only, um, can't read the message off.

The process of success is not a continuum.

You always need to be grounded.

But he also knows how to put that in the action.

When you're in practicing on the practice field and you see that come to fruition on game day, and then not to mention and a lot of people to talk about the greatness of saving, but the first thing he always mention, J put together a damn list of the players that they came through L s U and Alabama that has to do with it as well.

It's been unbelievable the amount of talent that he's had not only at L s U, but in Tuscaloosa.

And it translates also to go into the next level as well and having a lot of success.

So it's a mixture of a lot of things.

But the bottom line is, and Knicks able to tell you if you don't have the players, you can coach your butt off.

You still ain't gonna win the damn.

Yeah, okay.

The other thing is, too, though he's extremely consistent.

And Marcus could speak to this like Nick Saban's the same dude every day, and that's whether you like him or not.

It's not.

He's not in a popularity contest, right?

Nick Saban doesn't come to work.

So you think that working for him or working with him is the fluffiest and happiest place to be on Earth.

So you may hate it, but if you're gonna hate it, you're gonna hate it.

Every single day.

But you're gonna understand why he's there and why you are there.

And the way that you're going to reach the goals that he has set for you is gonna be the same work ethic is gonna be the same things and the same principles that you apply each and every day to excel, to succeed.

And I think when you understand that and when you buy into that you want understand that you can win the championship by doing what he says.

And that is gonna be the same thing each and every day.

And it's preached through those six or seven coaches that ended up being head coaches.

Also, some in the SEC most empowered five because he taught them the same formula watching this video.

His entire football career was ahead.

But lately it's been Alabama's offense is carrying his team.

So, Ryan, what does that say about his ability to adapt throughout his career?

Well, it says he's about winning, right, and it doesn't matter how it comes.

Coach Saban was walking through practicing and Marcus Spears?

And he told me he told Flossing.

He said he is going to start because all I care about is winning.

And that was a very small thing, and it was a joke.

But what he said to me was this.

It doesn't matter about all that other stuff.

If it's gonna help us win football games, we're going to do it.

And if you could have Henry Rugs and Jalen Watteau and Jerry Judy and Devante Smith in the same recruiting class.

Then your offense is gonna be good.

So that's how they've won.

They've won by who they had on campus and the way it needed to be done.

He's not in it for style points.

He's in it for the points on the scoreboard.

Yeah, our Sienna and to like, another part of that is being able to identify what you could be successful And before you can write, I was I was switched to defense while I was at L S u.

All I wanted to do was play tight ends Corey Webster towns and get the girls J.

That's all I cared about.

Corey Webster ended up being a Pro Bowl cornerback on the New York Giants team, went into Super Bowls, and he came in as a quarterback.

Offensive guys.

So he's had that ability as well, to see where guys fit best on Sunday.

He understands that he gets a lot of kids, a lot of young men coming into that program with dreams and aspirations of playing on Sunday, and he you have number one.

He games trust by his continuum of work ethic and showing you that he's gonna be present.

And then the second thing is, is he?

You know that Nick Saban and that staff that he assembles is going to put you in the best possible situation to have success as players.

We'll wash our hands.

That's all we can ask for if you think I have enough talent to play on Sunday, put me in a position to get myself in position to play on Sunday and give me the Nuggets I need as I go forward.

Next statement was more than a head coach to me.

I relationships of different.

They evolved differently with his players and the relationships that they have.

For me, it was a father figure.

It was a guy that knew what I needed to do in order to have success not only in football but to carry over in life.

So it's a lot of risk in life.

But bottom line is, he is the best day ever.
