  • I would like to begin by addressing the heinous.

  • A new Reuters Ipsos poll on Friday shows a majority of Americans want President Donald Trump immediately removed from office after he encouraged a protest at the US Capitol this week that escalated into a deadly riot.

  • However, most of the 57% supporting Trump's removal were Democrats.

  • While Republicans were much more supportive of Trump finishing the last two weeks of his term, the nearly 70% of Americans surveyed said they disapproved of Trump's actions and the run upto Wednesday's assault.

  • At a rally earlier in the day, Trump had encouraged thousands of his followers to march to the capital and fight.

  • The national opinion survey also showed that seven out of 10 of those who voted for Trump last November opposed the actions of his hardcore supporters who broke into the capital.

  • The poll comes as several lawmakers from both parties joined the call on Friday for his removal, including Republican Senators Lisa Murkowski and Ben Sasse.
