Donald Trump is still refusing to accept Joe Biden as the winner of the U.

S election, even as his allegations of fraud have been met with skepticism from judges and legal analysts, the people of this nation have spoken.

The United States has a long history of peaceful transfers of power, though, so if Trump refuses to leave the White House, the country will be entering uncharted waters.

Even in previous contentious elections, there has never been an all out refusal to concede.

For example, Al Gore accepted the Supreme Court's ruling that George Bush won in 2000, despite questions over Florida's results at the time.

While I strongly disagree with the court's decision, I accepted.

But Trump and his administration have resisted cooperating with the transition.

I just think it's an embarrassment.

So what might happen?

In August 2 veterans sent an open letter to General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

In it, they raised the possibility of the military getting involved, they said, if Trump refused to leave, Quote.

United States military must remove him by force, and you must give that order.

Others have said such a move would be better left to the Secret Service.

There is a basic legal principle that the military should stay out of domestic law enforcement matters.

Biden, though, is likely to transition the office over Trump's objections.

The president on Lee has so much power there's a federal agency called the General Services Administration, or ESA, and once it names an apparent winner, things shift into high gear.

At that point, the president elect's team can obtain briefing books, tap into funds and said representatives to government agencies.

The G S A hasn't yet declared Biden the winner, but it says it will ascertain the winner when quote, it is clear.

Based on the process laid out in the Constitution, political scientists are optimistic about the resilience of this legal framework.
