  • When you own a Google doc, you have total control over user permissions, and you can delete the doc whenever you please.

  • But if you need to pass these responsibilities onto someone else, you can transfer ownership of the document to another person.

  • First, you'll need to open a Google doc that you are the owner of.

  • Then click the share button.

  • You'll see a list of everyone you've shared the document with.

  • You can transfer ownership toe one of these people, or you can email an invitation to someone new.

  • Just type their email address into the text box and click send.

  • Once you decide on the new owner, click the drop down arrow by their name and select Make owner.

  • You'll need to confirm your choice just in case you have second thoughts about this permanent change.

  • Once you're sure click yes, that person will immediately become the owner of the document.

  • Your permission will change toe editor unless the new owner changes it to something else.

  • Also, you will no longer be able to delete the document.

  • This feature does have a few restrictions.

  • For instance, you cannot transfer ownership from the mobile app.

  • Also, if your Google account is through your work or school, you cannot transfer ownership with anyone outside of that organization.

  • Other than that, you should be free to transfer ownership.
