  • and use it in everyday conversation.

  • This is a very important video.

  • So keep watching.

  • A lot of my students are studying the TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, or other English tests.

  • And I understand.

  • They have to learn a lot of new words in a very short period of time.

  • But let me tell you something Memorizing vocabulary lists is not a good

  • way to learn English.

  • The best way - the very best way to learn English is by reading.

  • Reading anything that you can.

  • Books in English.

  • Magazine articles in English.

  • Even comic books.

  • Whatever you like - read - and read as much as you can.

  • This is really going to help you improve your English much more than memorizing long vocabulary

  • lists.

  • It just doesn't work.

  • But, the thing is, how can we use this vocabulary in everyday conversation?

  • The most important thing to do is as soon as you learn a new vocabulary word or even

  • a phrase, Use it!

  • right away!

  • Make yourself a note or something to help you remember to use that

  • in conversation.

  • Even the Using the vocabulary right away is going to

  • help you memorize it and stick in your brain.

  • And you know what, you might be afraid that you're gonna use it wrong or incorrectly

  • That's okay.

  • If you use it wrong or incorrectly - not a problem,

  • that's part of the learning process.

  • And using what you read is going to help you memorize the English words a lot faster.

  • and it's gonna help you become a better English speaker much faster.

  • Memorizing vocabulary lists is not a good way to learn English.

  • If you don't use the new words, then you won't master pronunciation and you might forget

  • the words.

  • So remember.

  • Read it and use it.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • If you can think of any other useful ways to memorize and use new vocabulary,

  • let me know in the comments and don't forget to Like and subscribe.

  • The first one you can say is, “Please say that again.”

  • Very simple.

  • And no one will be offended or upset.

  • They will be happy to repeat themselves one more time.

  • Trust me.

  • Another one you can say is just, “Excuse me.”

  • That means you didn't hear what they said.

  • And they'll either speak a little bit louder, or a little bit slower to tell you what they

  • said one more time.

  • Another one you can use is, “Sorry, I didn't hear that.”

  • That's another simple phrase to help someone know that you didn't quite hear what they

  • said.

  • Another one is, literally, “Please speak slower.”

  • That's ok to ask.

  • Don't be shy about it.

  • You're learning English and everyone will understand.

  • The next one is, “Sorry, what did you say?”

  • Or you can even just say, “What did you say?”

  • Without the 'sorry'.

  • Both of those are completely fine.

  • And in a much more casual setting, you can even use, “Pardon me?”

  • Or simple, “What?”

  • Even just saying one word, “What?”, is better than letting the moment pass by.

  • And you not understanding what someone said.

  • Hello all.

  • I'm Lynn.

  • Thanks for watching my video.

  • Today I'm going to help you improve your English conversation ability

  • by changing you from a shy timid student into a confident talkative student.

  • This is a very important video so keep watching.

  • A lot of my students are very shy.

  • In fact some of them are so shy that they're afraid to try their English at all.

  • Some of them are even afraid of foreigners.

  • Now I know speaking in English can seem very scary

  • and you might be too shy to try but let me tell you, if you never practice

  • speaking in English, you'll never improve your English.

  • English is a skill which means you need lots of practice

  • and lots of practice speaking in order to get better.

  • Now if you are one of those very shy students, that's okay.

  • I have some tips for you to help get you speaking in English.

  • the first tip I'm gonna tell you is Speak to yourself.

  • maybe the thought of speaking to someone else in English

  • is so scary that you just can't do it.

  • Well just start talking to yourself then.

  • In the mirror or out loud at home.

  • That is going to help you practice speaking Another tip is - read out loud.

  • This one is actually very simple.

  • Take any English text that you want a book or anything

  • and read it out loud to yourself.

  • This will help you feel more confident about speaking English.

  • Another tip that works well is Talking to younger people.

  • Younger people - you can have conversation with them a little bit easier .

  • And so, speaking to younger people in English is

  • also going to help boost your confidence.

  • Another tip that I tell my students is try to improve your listening first.

  • Sometimes, students are shy to speak English because

  • they don't quite understand what they're hearing.

  • So if you improve your listening a little bit first,

  • this will encourage you to speak more in English.

  • Another tip is - start chatting first.

  • If you start the conversation with someone else first,

  • then you can decide a topic that's comfortable for you to talk about in English.

  • And don't be afraid of making mistakes.

  • Just go for it.

  • The last tip I'm gonna tell you is - push yourself.

  • Speaking English can feel uncomfortable and you might feel shy

  • but if you don't push yourself, you'll never improve.

  • So I encourage you to speak up and try.

  • English is not easy.

  • But you can improve with just a little bit of effort.

  • Don't be afraid to speak up in English and don't be afraid of foreigners.

  • I know you guys can do it.

  • Try hard.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • See you next time.

  • Let me know in the comments how you overcome shyness.

  • And don't forget to keep supporting my channel.

  • See you.

  • Hey everybody.

  • I'm Lynn.

  • Thanks for watching my video.

  • Today I'm going to be talking to you about the benefits

  • of watching movies, TV, and even YouTube videos in English.

  • This is a really helpful video so keep watching watching.

  • Watching movies and TV shows in English is a

  • great way to improve your English speaking ability.

  • You can improve your listening, your reading,

  • if you use subtitles, and your speaking

  • all by watching movies, TV shows or even YouTube videos in English.

  • Now the most important thing to keep in mind when choosing a movie,

  • a TV show or a YouTube video is not to choose something too difficult.

  • Many of my students when they start watching movies or TV shows in English,

  • they choose something that might be fun to watch,

  • but it's much too difficult for them to understand.

  • Then what happens is they feel overwhelmed or frustrated and they just want to give up

  • on learning English.

  • so in order to avoid that, choose something that is easy first.

  • Then after, you feel comfortable, you can move on to something a little bit

  • more difficult.

  • When choosing a YouTube video, a good suggestion is to stick to one channel

  • and keep watching those videos many times until you feel comfortable .

  • Another good idea is watch the same video a number of times.

  • Repeat it over and over.

  • You can watch it with the subtitles in your language,

  • and then you can watch it with the subtitles in English,

  • and then you can watch it with no subtitles.

  • And each time you watch the video, or whatever you choose,

  • you'll be improving your English speaking ability.

  • Watching English programs is a great way to improve your English conversation skill.

  • So watching movies, TV shows, and YouTube videos in English

  • is going to help improve your English conversation ability.

  • And when you watch these movies or TV shows, don't be afraid to mimic just what the actor

  • or actress says.

  • This will also help you to improve.

  • I know learning English is hard, but I know you can do it as well.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • See you next time.

  • Tell me what kind of movies, TV shows, and YouTube channels

  • you like to watch in the comments below.

  • And don't forget to keep supporting my channel.

  • See you in the next video.

  • Hello, again.

  • I'm Lynn.

  • Thanks for watching my video.

  • Today, we're going to be talking about translation programs and apps.

  • And how they never help you learn English This is a really helpful video, so keep watching.

  • Translation programs and apps like google translate are good

  • when you want to get kind of a sense or an idea of some text.

  • I've used it before when I get a text or an email in another language.

  • I can just quickly copy and paste it into Google Translate

  • And find out the general idea of what the person is talking about.

  • However, using these kinds of translation programs

  • will not help you improve your English conversation ability.

  • One way that I can see that's very clear is when my students try to use these translation

  • programs in their writing or in their presentations, it's very obvious that they simply typed or

  • wrote something up in their own language and then plugged it

  • into Google Translate.

  • It comes out wacky and crazy.

  • The English does not make sense and it just sounds weird.

  • So my tip for you is to not rely on these translation programs and apps.

  • Get away from them as much as you can.

  • They're good in a hurry when you just want to get a sense of some text,

  • but they are not good for improving your English conversation ability.

  • So stay away from these translation programs as much as you can.

  • They are not going to help you improve your English conversation skills.

  • I always know which of my students has used a translation program or app.

  • It might seem tempting because it's quick and easy but the English is not good.

  • And a teacher always knows which students have used

  • this kind of translation program.

  • So I believe in you guys if you just try hard and put in the effort.

  • That is going to help improve your English conversation skills.

  • Thanks for watching my video, see you next time.

  • If you enjoyed this video, let me know about it in the comments.

  • And don't forget like and subscribe.

  • See you next time.

  • Hi everyone.

  • I'm Lynn.

  • Thanks for watching my video.

  • Today, I'm going to be giving you some tips about English pronunciation.

  • We're going to be talking about the importance of the phonetic alphabet and why you should

  • know it.

  • So keep watching.

  • Many of my students want to improve their English pronunciation.

  • And I always tell them if you're really serious about improving English,

  • pronunciation you have to learn the phonetic alphabet.

  • Once you learn the phonetic alphabet, you will know every vowel and consonant sound

  • in English.

  • And you won't even need a native speaker teacher to tell you how to pronounce a certain word

  • because you'll already know when you see the word and you know the phonetic alphabet you'll

  • know exactly how to pronounce it.

  • And this will help you improve your English pronunciation a lot.

  • A lot of my students are kind of hesitant to learn the phonetic alphabet.

  • Maybe they think they have to be better at English first or there's a lot of reasons,

  • But I always tell them no learn the phonetic alphabet right away as soon as you can.

  • It's going to really help you a lot especially if you're serious about improving

  • your English pronunciation.

  • This is an essential tool, so go ahead and start learning it right now.

  • Let's take a look at an example.

  • How do you think you pronounce this word?

  • A lot of my students they would say this word is pronounced 'corpse'.

  • Makes sense, but no.

  • Actually there are some silent letters in this word.

  • This word is probably very difficult, but if you know the phonetic alphabet, you already

  • know that this word is pronounced 'cor'.

  • So you can see just from this example how important it is to learn the phonetic alphabet.

  • I'm gonna put some links below to help you learn more about the phonetic alphabet

  • and be on your way to improving your English pronunciation.

  • So study hard.

  • See you next time.

  • Thanks for watching.

  • If you have no one to practice your English with,

  • you can talk to yourself.

  • Talk in the mirror.

  • Talk out loud.

  • It really will help you improve.

  • Another tip I'm going to share with you is: Mimic what you hear in videos, podcasts, movies

  • or songs.

  • You can actually just repeat what you hear in movies, lines from movies, sing-a-long

  • with the songs.

  • Anything like that is going to help you improve your English a lot.

  • Another tips is: Talk to your friends in English.

  • If you have a friend, or a coworker, who is also learning English,

  • you can talk to each other.

  • It might seem a little awkward, but it's not.

  • You can have conversations that are simple, and it will help both of you improve your

  • English.

  • Another tip is: Talk to foreigners.

  • Now this might be one that sounds scary, but really most foreigners are pleasant and

  • happy to help.

  • So if you see a foreigner, go over

  • strike up a conversation.

  • It will really help to boost your confidence and to improve your English.

  • Another tip is: Skype with people around the world.

  • Hi, everybody.

  • I'm Lynn.

  • Thanks for watching my video.

  • Today we're gonna talk about not worrying about making mistakes in English.

  • When you speak English, you might make a mistake.

  • That's okay.

  • This is a really helpful video, so keep watching.

  • A lot of my students are scared to speak English because they're afraid of making a mistake.

  • They think their English needs to be perfect before they even try.

  • Well, I'm here to tell you that's not true.

  • Everyone makes mistakes.

  • It's part of the learning process.

  • So my tip for you is just try speaking even if your English has a lot of mistakes,

  • or you think it sounds broken, that's okay.

  • Speaking in English is much better than not speaking at all.

  • If you don't try to use your English, then you'll never improve.

  • It's much more important and useful to speak English even with some mistakes

  • than to not speak at all.

  • Everyone makes mistakes when learning English.

  • And the person that you're talking to can tell you your mistakes.

  • And that helps you to learn and improve.

  • So the best thing you can do is just try speaking even if you have a lot of mistakes,

  • that's okay.

  • Okay, students.

  • So speak, speak, and speak some more.

  • Just keep trying.

  • I know when my students speak English and they make a mistake,

  • I don't care.

  • In fact, I'm really happy that they're trying their English.

  • I know English is hard, but I believe in you guys.

  • And I know you can do it.

  • Thanks for watching everybody and see you next time.

  • when there's no one to talk to.

  • even if you're by yourself.

  • You can take a book, an article, a poem, even a song

  • and not only read it, but read it out loud.

  • This is something that will help you not only get new vocabulary,

  • but it will greatly improve your pronunciation and your conversation ability.

  • This is something that I have instructed many of my students to do and

  • Always, if they read out loud every day, I can see a huge improvement in, not only

  • their fluency, but their conversation ability and pronunciation.

  • And this is something that is very simple to do by yourself.

  • Choose something that you want to read.

  • Read it.

  • And read it out loud every day.

  • And you will be surprised how fast you improve.

  • It's a great tip so I really think you should try it.
