  • everybody Jennifer from Tarle speech with your pronunciation question today's

  • question is how do I pronounce the words tall meaning of larger than average

  • height and toll which would be an amount of money that you pay to use a road or a

  • bridge so we're going to talk mostly today about the vowel sounds one is the

  • short oh and the other is the long o both of these words have the same

  • beginning and ending sound so that should be relatively easy let's go ahead

  • and take a look at the words and I actually have a little visual for you as

  • well so to say these words correctly let's start by touching the tip of your

  • tongue to the back of your top front teeth just to clarify I do say that

  • because it's pretty easy to say but technically speaking you can touch that

  • little spot between your teeth and the gums on the top of your mouth several

  • people have asked that recently and yes that is exactly correct you can put your

  • tongue right there on that spot when you say the T sound the air will puff out of

  • your mouth ttt for the L sound lll this last sound we're only going to

  • say one L 2 letters pronounced only as one L sound lll to say that sound you're

  • going to touch the tip of your tongue to the back of your top front teeth again

  • but this time the air is going to continually come out of your mouth and

  • you want to make sure that you hold the tip of your tongue there so that the

  • vowels sound correct the mistake that I hear is people pull their tongue down

  • too quickly and then it sounds like the L isn't there and yes to get super

  • technical some people do make the L sound by

  • touching their teeth outside of their mouth lll lll and this is totally fine so

  • you have two options there now for our vowels in the word tall what you're going

  • to do is a have a great great way to remember this you're going to make your

  • mouth open so wide that it looks tall so you're

  • gonna have a tall wide-open mouth and for the long o sound what you're going

  • to do is you are going to move to a pucker o o o so the difference here

  • is tall and Toll tall tall tall toll toll toll tall toll the tall man paid

  • the toll give it a try I know people are going to notice the difference if you
