  • Welcome to Super Quick English Lesson number two. Alright, so today we are looking at two

  • vowel sounds. Let's start off with the long sound. Now I do that with my hands to remind

  • myself that it's a long sound. Now if you watch, my lips and my mouth go outwards and

  • it's open mouth so, like that. Now let's think of some words that have this sound. We have

  • 'me', we have 'see', 'tea', 'money' 'receive' so many. Let's look at the short sound. Now

  • this time my lips and mouth don't go outwards they stay quite still and quite central. Let's

  • look at some words that have that sound. So we have 'in', 'sit', 'hill' 'biscuit' 'women'.

  • A word that has both sounds is 'Kimchee' the Korean pickled cabbage. Very tasty! Ok, so

  • let's try say that, so it's 'Kim' 'Chee' If you use your hands it will help you to sort

  • of notice the sounds that your mouth is making. So 'Kim' 'Chee'. Now why is it so important

  • to know how to make these sounds? Well, there are some words that if you say them with the

  • wrong sound might sound quite rude. So, I'll give you an example. 'Beach' nice long sound.

  • Now if you give that a short sound, the meaning changes and it can be quite rude. I won't

  • say it now but most of you probably know it's a rude word. So you have to be careful to

  • know when to use the long sound, and when to say the short sound. Alright it's time

  • to practise, now I'm going to say a tongue twister and I want you to guys t try and say

  • it as well. Ok, are you ready? Here we go. 'I know six, silly sisters who are sweet to

  • meet.' Ok let's use our hands. 'I know six, silly sisters who are sweet to meet.' Alright

  • the long sound at the end there. Ok, let's say it again. 'I know six, silly sister who

  • are sweet to meet.' Ok faster! 'I know six, silly sisters who are sweet to meet.' Have

  • a little fun! You can have a little dance. Alright guys, you can carry on saying it wherever

  • you are. Maybe you are on the train or the bus and you are just saying it out loud. Maybe

  • people think you are crazy, I don't think you are crazy, you are not crazy you are just

  • practising your English.

  • Now, if you found this video useful please share it with your friends, your family, your

  • colleagues anyone you know that is trying to learn English. And if you want to watch
