  • COOKIE MONSTER: Meat, eat, eat, eat.

  • ERNIE: No, no, no, no.

  • I didn't say, eat.

  • I said meat.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh.

  • ERNIE: OK.

  • Now, you use the knife to cut the meat.

  • You also use a knife to spread things like butter--

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh, butter.

  • ERNIE: --or jelly--

  • COOKIE MONSTER: --or jelly--

  • ERNIE: And peanut butter--

  • COOKIE MONSTER: --peanut butter--

  • ERNIE: --on your bread.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Um.

  • ERNIE: OK?

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah, yeah.

  • ERNIE: That's the use of the knife.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah, knife, knife.

  • ERNIE: Now, the next thing is the fork.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Fork.

  • ERNIE: And here is a fork.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah.

  • ERNIE: Now, you can tell it's a fork, because it's got these

  • four little pointy things on the ends of it, see.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh.

  • ERNIE:

  • See?

  • Now that's what a fork is.

  • Now, you use a fork to pick up things like meat.

  • ERNIE: See?

  • No, no, no, no, I didn't say eat.

  • I said meat.

  • You use a fork to pick up the meat.

  • You use it also to pick up vegetables.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh, vegetables.

  • ERNIE: See?

  • And you also use the fork to hold the meat still while

  • you're cutting it with your knife.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh.

  • ERNIE: Isn't that neat?

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah.

  • ERNIE: See that?

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah.

  • ERNIE: OK.

  • Now, then, that is the knife and fork.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Knife and fork.

  • ERNIE: You can hold those--

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Thank you.

  • ERNIE: --now while we talk about the spoon.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh, spoon.

  • ERNIE: Now, look at the spoon.

  • And notice the spoon has this clever

  • little bowl shape there.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: How clever.

  • ERNIE: There, you see?

  • And we use the spoon to scoop

  • up things like soup--

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Soup.

  • ERNIE: --and gravy.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Gravy.

  • ERNIE: --and other things that don't fit very

  • well on your fork.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah.

  • ERNIE: OK?

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah, spoon.

  • ERNIE: Now here is the spoon.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Thank you.

  • ERNIE: And--

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Now eat, eat, eat.

  • ERNIE: No, no, no, no.

  • Wait a second, just one more second.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: No.

  • ERNIE: Now, as we said before, we're now going to have an

  • actual demonstration of how to use the knife, fork, and spoon

  • for eating.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Yeah, yeah.

  • ERNIE: Now, are you sure you know how to use them?

  • COOKIE MONSTER: Oh, I know how, I know how.

  • ERNIE: OK, you may go ahead and eat.

  • COOKIE MONSTER: OK.
