  • Hello and welcome everyone. This is Minoo at Anglo-Link. Today I'm doing

  • something different. It's not a lesson, it's a promotional video for those of you who are

  • looking for native English speakers to practice your spoken English with.

  • Almost daily, I get a question from one of you, my YouTube viewers, on how you can

  • practice your spoken English when you don't live in an English-speaking country.

  • There are now some online platforms that provide the opportunity

  • for English language learners to connect with native English speakers, and today,

  • I'm going to introduce you to one such platform called Cambly.

  • Cambly has been providing this service for the past three years and has built

  • up a good reputation.

  • Here's a quick demonstration of me using the Cambly app.

  • Now let's show you how this works.

  • You will have downloaded the Cambly app either from the Apple App Store or

  • from the Google Play Store.

  • Click on it.

  • You can see how many minutes you've got left. You can get more minutes if you need more.

  • Here on the bottom menu, click on 'tutors' and you can see the name of all the tutors that are available.

  • You have a green light next to them. You will also see the tutors who are not available,

  • but you can still message them or contact them if you want to.

  • So, let's have a look and see who's online at the moment and available.

  • Stephen is online.

  • So, you can look at Stephen's CV, languages he speaks, where he's from ... Oh, he's from New Zealand,

  • and what he enjoys talking about, teaching experience. So, have a look at his CV. You can schedule a lesson

  • with him already if you want to. You can have a quick look at his introduction video.

  • Hi there. My name is Stephen. I live in Ecuador, I love to travel and learn about new cultures.

  • And I look forward to speaking with you. See you sometime.

  • Let's call Stephen.

  • Hey Stephen, hi.

  • Hi.

  • Can you hear me?

  • Yes, yes I can hear you. It's a little quiet but I can hear you.

  • Ok, lovely. Hi. My name's Minoo. Nice to meet you.

  • Nice to meet you too, Minoo. My name is Stephen, as you know.

  • As I know, yes! we've had a look at your CV and watched your brief introduction video. Very nice.

  • So, Stephen, tell us a little bit about yourself and your Cambly experience.

  • How long have you been tutoring on Cambly?

  • Ok. Well, I've been a Cambly tutor for

  • two years now and it's really a perfect job for me. I'm from New Zealand but

  • right now I live in Ecuador and so having an online job, here in Ecuador, is

  • perfect for my circumstances.

  • Lovely. Very good.

  • And, do you miss New Zealand?

  • I do miss New Zealand, but living here in Ecuador is also an

  • exciting life for me and my wife.

  • And working online and meeting new people from all around the world is a

  • very cool job.

  • Ok, lovey.

  • Just one, prpbably, last question. What nationalities are you teaching or have

  • you been teaching?

  • I teach a lot of Saudi Arabian students, but also, I get students

  • from all over the world, from Turkey; we get many Brazilian students, from

  • Columbia, from South Korea, China Japan and many other parts of the world also.

  • Ok, great, yes lovely. Thank you very much for your time, Stephen

  • You're very welcome. Nice to meet you, Minoo.

  • Alright, bye now.

  • Nice to meet you, bye bye.

  • Right, that was a demonstration of how the Cambly app works. As you can see, it was

  • really nice and easy.

  • What I particularly like about Cambly is the level of

  • flexibility that it offers.

  • First of all, you can access a tutor on any device and at any time of day or night.

  • This is because Cambly tutors live in various countries around the world

  • and you will find tutors online 24/7.

  • Whenever you want to chat to a tutor, just go online,

  • see who's available and choose the tutor that you feel can meet your needs best.

  • Before you select a tutor, you can read their CV and watch a short video where

  • they introduce themselves.

  • Secondly, you can choose various session lengths per day depending on your needs.

  • If you want casual conversation practice every day, you can choose the 15 or 30

  • minutes a day subscription level, but if you need more intensive daily practice,

  • for example, if you're preparing for a test, you can opt for longer day plans.

  • Another great feature is that you can choose tutors with different accents:

  • British, American, Australian, etc.

  • This is a great bonus for those of you who find certain accents difficult.

  • I recommend that you occasionally challenge yourself and connect with tutors whose

  • accents sound less familiar to you when you watch their introduction video.

  • You will also find that the tutors have very different backgrounds.

  • Some are English language teachers, but you will also find university lecturers,

  • personal trainers, business people, artists, etc. and this will allow you to expand your

  • knowledge in many different areas while practicing your English.

  • And finally, every session is recorded for you, so you can review your sessions afterwards

  • and consolidate what you have learnt. So, to summarize, with Cambly you can

  • fully tailor-make your sessions to your

  • needs as you decide where, when, how long and with whom each session will be.

  • Of course, if you prefer pre-scheduling, that's possible too. You can plan your sessions

  • in advance with the tutor or tutors of your choice. So, if you want to improve

  • your spoken English by talking to native speakers in an easy and flexible way, then Cambly

  • will be a very good choice for you. If you want to discover the platform for yourself,

  • you can use the link below for a free ten-minute session. Thank you for watching

  • this promotional video. I look forward to seeing you in my next lesson. Bye now.
