  • Hey guys! I am here with Sayulee today!

  • and we are going to talk to you about an awesome project that we are working on together!

  • I'm so excited, this is something that I've never done before

  • and I'm really happy to be able to share it with you guys in video form!

  • So, first introduce yourself! Tell these guys who you are!

  • Hi guys! My name is Sayulee

  • Well, I am a singer/songwriter based in Tokyo

  • I grew up most of my life in New Zealand, so that's why I sound funny

  • We've been friends for a while now, we met through the whole YouTube thing

  • and I've just launched a new project called "Your Song"

  • Which is basically, collaborative music creation

  • Which is basically getting the audience to write the lyrics, and I create the melody to it

  • And voila! There's a song!

  • But for this one, I really wanted at least one YouTube creator that I collaborate with

  • And I was like, I really wanna do this with Sharla! So...

  • I approached her and was like, can you be part of this Your Song project?

  • So basically that's where it all started and we decided to collaborate on writing a song together

  • We're writing a song together!

  • So I interviewed her

  • Yeah we just sat down in a coffee shop, it was really casual

  • Yeah I told her about my life story

  • and kind of, what themes I wanted to be included in the song

  • and what messages I wanted it to portray

  • Yeah it was an experience for me, because I SUCK at writing

  • So luckily Sayulee is really good at that...

  • So I gave her the ideas, and she wrote the whole thing

  • and she did a wonderful job, so I'm sooo excited to share this with you guys

  • Yeah it was fun! Because I had to think about you the whole time as I was writing

  • Yeah you kinda have to become me

  • Yeah yeah yeah!

  • That must've been hard

  • It was really interesting, because you know she's actually got a very interesting life

  • I mean, it already looks very interesting but there's so much more to it that I found out as I was interviewing you!

  • Yeah I don't really talk about anything other than Japan on my channel, so...

  • This is something new for me

  • There's a lot of deep stuff

  • If you guys wanna get to know a little bit more about me, check out the song

  • and we just did a video on her channel explaining kind of what the 1st verse is all about & the meanings behind it

  • So definitely check that out!

  • But now we're gonna go a little bit into the second verse

  • and what I wanted to say, what my message was for the second verse

  • Yeah, let's talk about that

  • What was the main image of the second verse?

  • As I was interviewing her, I realized that in order to come to Japan and do what you wanna do

  • there's actually a lot that you had to give up in order to do that

  • So it's kinda talking about that, when you want to gain something you have to let go of something as well

  • and I saw that mainly as like, in terms of you, like your family!

  • You know, how you don't get to see your family while you're here

  • and you mentioned that that's really hard for you, so I really wanted to put that part in the lyrics

  • Well that's a big thing, I find that that's one thing that holds people back from moving out of their hometown

  • or coming to Japan, I'm sure lots of you guys are interested in coming to Japan

  • That was always a big thing for me, like holy crap... I'm not gonna be able to see my family for years!

  • Maybe once a year if I have the time I can go visit them, but that's about it

  • And of course that's hard, but I don't think you should let missing someone hold you back from doing something that you're really passionate about

  • There are ways to talk to people, I talk to my family on Skype and email every day

  • So you know, it's not that big of a deal

  • We're separated physically, but we can still talk to each other

  • And my family is happy that I'm doing what I wanna be doing

  • Yeah I don't want you guys to be too worried about that

  • Of course you're gonna miss your family and it's gonna be sad, and it's gonna be hard but

  • you know it's worth it! And your family will be proud of you :)

  • And we filmed a music video together!

  • Today, on this couch!

  • I'll add a clip of that at the end, and definitely check that out!

  • I'll put the link in the description box

  • Let me know what you think! We worked really hard on it

  • It's turned out being a really cool song! I'm really excited about it!

  • It's catchy, and I hope it inspires some of you!

  • Yeah!

  • And you can learn a little bit about me

  • I don't really talk about my life

  • Very cool life!

  • Haha, interesting

  • And I'm hoping it's really encouraging and inspiring for people too

  • Yeah, we talk about that on your channel, but I get lots of comments about people that wanna do what I'm doing

  • and they wanna come to Japan, but they feel that they can't

  • but there's nothing special about me!

  • I'm just someone that really liked Japan, and studied and put a lot of work into coming here

  • and I made it happen!

  • I'm not super rich or anything, so if I can do it, you guys can do it too! It just takes a lot of work.

  • So definitely check out the video, and the song!

  • Thank you so much for including me in your project, this has been so much fun

  • Thank you! For being part of it! It's been so much fun!

  • Alright guys, well check that out! And make sure to subscribe to Sayulee's channel!

  • She shares all her music on there, it's wonderful

  • Thanks for watching, and see you soon! Bye!!

  • Spent my high school days working part time jobs

  • Failed my tests, didn't like to study

  • Spent my days daydreaming, didn't have a boyfriend

  • But then I realized that it's all about your environment

  • Found a goal and crossed borders

  • Looking for a place to call home

  • I ended up in Tokyo

  • and I realized that it's all up to yourself
