  • So what is a prefix?

  • A prefix is a group of letters that are added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning or make a new word.

  • Do you understand or did you miss?

  • The prefix out can add the meaning of not central or external denounce and adjectives.

  • Words like outskirts outlying and outpatients are common.

  • For example, the building is on the outskirts of town or most of the outlying region is death.

  • Out can also add the meaning away from.

  • For example, at the station, someone might ask, Excuse me, what time is your outbound journey?

  • And when you arrive, your friend can meet you with outstretched arms.

  • Years out can also affect verbs by adding the meaning going further than or being better than to make words like outlive outmatch and outperform, for example.

  • She'll probably outlive us all.

  • Or last night my team were totally outmatched.
