  • What's up, guys?

  • Just two cents here.

  • I'm going to talk about something that's near and dear to my heart, and I don't mean cholesterol.

  • I mean multi GPU support.

  • This is something that I have always been a huge enthusiast up.

  • If you guys have followed my child for a length of time, you've noticed that most of my bills that I do that for myself include multi Jeep you.

  • Even though it's a terrible scaler, it costs more money, and it doesn't get nearly the utilization it used to in the past.

  • It's something that I still truly and passionate about.

  • Well, what can I want to talk to you today is towards people who are considering multi GPU support or multi GP setups, what you should think about and what you should stay away from.

  • Because in 2019 it's easy to accidentally waste a crap ton of money.

  • Ms.

  • Oh man, there's nobody would play.

  • Warships were in a play on the computer.

  • You have heard of World War ships and yeah, you played on a computer.

  • Well, the warships of the free to play strategy game where you take command of some of the most iconic war vessels from World War One and World War Two vessels like the Agent s hood, U S s Missouri, or the ships that changed naval warfare forever.

  • The Dreadnought class.

  • Each ship is recreated using historical photos and three scans of the real vessel to ensure the most realistic detail possible.

  • So, real effect.

  • You'll swear you're on the ship itself.

  • But we all know that the war is won in the sky.

  • So that's why World of Warships features a completely revamp carrier placed out where you get to take control of squadrons of aircraft before me, bombing a torpedo runs to devastate your end.

  • In fact, new players could start devastating there any means by using our code.

  • Play Langley 2019 to receive a free starter pack featuring the USS Langley aircraft Carrier 300 Blues.

  • One million credits in three days of premium time.

  • Now get out there and start putting some shells downrange, sailor.

  • Yeah, this is so much fun.

  • You can start having fun too, but downloading world of warships by using the link in the description below.

  • Ah, So what actually started?

  • This whole concept of this video was I was intending to do a dual 5760 system benchmarking to see kind of like, Hey, you know, $400 graphics card.

  • Let's see how this compares to an $800 graphics card.

  • You put two together, which was always kind of the thing it was.

  • It was common to take, like a 9 50 t i or 9 60 or something, and s ally those and get pretty damn close to, like the 9 80 performance type of error and did with Foreign Siri's cards 500.

  • But we'll be noticed was that anything below the 70?

  • Siri's leading up to Pascal was pretty much dropped and nullified any SL I support whatsoever.

  • And so when I realized the 57 year next, he could be enabled with Crossfire mode.

  • Although a M.

  • D was kind of like, you know it's not supported, it doesn't mean it doesn't work because we were able to enable it.

  • I started doing some testing, realized there was absolutely zero activity happening on the second card, even in titles like three D Mark, which are synthetic and they're designed to scale nearly perfectly with multi, at least with two cards we were seeing crashes, we weren't even getting through the mark to run.

  • It would it would start to load the test.

  • I'd get a solid white screen and then it would completely locked the system.

  • Now we are.

  • And when it comes to Andy, you can still actually crossfire things like Vegas 64 ready on seven and all of that.

  • It's something specifically with this launch with nappy that they've decided to basically have zero out of the lock support for Crossfire.

  • What makes it a little bit disappointing is because, well, we talked about with Pascal was with implicit and explicit s ally or multi GPU.

  • Windows 10 could have done something direct, Ext.

  • 12 is It's got different modes of multi GPU support, and it could technically be supported at the OS level.

  • It could be supported the driver level.

  • It could also be supported at the game rendering level.

  • And I think what happened here and I did a video about this couple years ago is when you got three cooks in the kitchen now handling multi GPU support.

  • It became a little convoluted where it wasn't just handled with the driver, and so I think a lot of people dropped it for that simple fact of there was no way to make it a perfect situation or even scale really well when he had too many things.

  • Too many cooks in the kitchen, like I said.

  • But in video does still at least support s ally on the Siri Siri or the 70 Siri's cards.

  • And higher.

  • So 2070 2070 Super and up does support s Ally.

  • Obviously, these are other Titan Artie exes that we've been using in the rip G N Siri's recently We've used 20 T eyes Um, these 10 80 eyes.

  • But what happened was, even though you do have up to four way S o lie still supported with the past groceries cards, they dropped three and four way entirely with the Arctic Siri's cards.

  • So that's why if you go on three d mark and look at the Hall of Fame and you can see that like on times by extreme and times by and even fire strike, you'll see that the top scores are still four way us alike convicts running last year hardware because the new hardware, although great, still isn't able to outperform Ellen to cooled, Massive modified over clock, 10 80 eyes, even the Titan Artie X cards.

  • So it's an interesting time right now where Although that support was taken away, it still exists.

  • I'm here to tell you that s L.

  • I does still scale nearly perfectly with those synthetic benchmarks things like far cry five and three d mark times by on port rail with RDX based cards.

  • But if you're looking for true gaming performance increases, you're not going to see it with modern titles, let's say 2017 ish and newer because what sort of happened here was the need for S ally has changed.

  • It was something that was kind of needed.

  • Now that's a lie.

  • Goes all the back to like the TNT air is like way back in, like the voodoo cards and stuff like that.

  • But it's something that is just not necessarily.

  • But it's not something that's really necessary today because what's happened is GP performance has definitely caught up to the pixel count and monitors 10.

  • 80 p was a super hard resolution to run about five years ago.

  • You were talking LTD v Graham on the graphics cards very limited core clocks and course speed.

  • The architecture's were huge and slow.

  • I remember when we first crossed the gigahertz mark.

  • The one diggers mark When it comes to GP use, it was massive.

  • It didn't take long for us to start passing two gigahertz with triple quadruple the amount of coke or is it her?

  • And the cards quadruple the amounts of RAM.

  • So the hardware has definitely advanced to the point where you could run 14 40 p and even four K with single cards getting 60 F.

  • P s.

  • Just three years ago, when you still were dealing with the Titan ex Maxwell in the 19 t t I era, we still needed to cards to run.

  • 60 f p s was setting is around the meat medium toe low for four K.

  • So it's definitely one of those things that's not necessarily needed anymore for the resolutions that you're running.

  • But now we're seeing the introduction of eight cable TVs and possibly panels.

  • It's gonna, I think, resolutions about to jump ahead again.

  • But I don't think we're going to see multi GPU support be how we get there.

  • I think we're going to see is a GP rays coming from the manufacturers That's gonna push GP technology forward even further.

  • That's gonna allow us to get more horsepower out of single carts.

  • Now, part of the problem with S Ally or even Crossfire or any multi GPS support was the introduction of micro stuttering.

  • And that's because there's different ways to achieve multi GPU support.

  • You would have no alternate frame made or a fr where one card would handle every other frame.

  • You would also have, like almost like an Inter leaving where each card would handle a different portion of the frame simultaneously rendering the scene.

  • So there were lots of different ways to achieve the end result.

  • And I think because of that, when it comes to now the implicit and explicit through d X 12 it's one of those things where, like I said, it's too convoluted and the developers are just not even trying anymore.

  • In fact, when Battlefield five first came out, first thing we tried was 28 e t.

  • I s l lie with Artie X going to see if it's scaled it all with Artie X.

  • And what we found was there was even a menu option in there.

  • That was great out for turning on things like our t x r D x r And it warned you like Look, if you have multi GPU, you cannot run like you willing to get zero support whatsoever for turning on the X are so you had to run d X 11 and then you would get multi GP support in Battlefield five.

  • In fact, as recently as when I did, my life played through on twitch of my resident evil play through the remake.

  • The very first thing I looked because I had the to tighten our T X cards both of these cards with their air cooler still on there in my system and started playing on checking for multi GPU support.

  • And not only did it not support it, something happened to where it actually reduced the main clock all the way down to its base clock when I was trying to run the game.

  • And so the first clock or the first GP GP zero did not boost up to where it should have when sl I was enabled Assumes I went to the media control panel disabled sl I.

  • Then we got the first card to boost all the way up or even a 34 40 by 14.

  • 40 100 megahertz panel was getting like 100 f p s with a single card 100 hertz, a fast panel 100 hertz panel at We don't need 100,000 francs per second, whatever it is, but yeah, that.

  • But the fact that the first card was gimp by the second card with s ally going, that's all about profile and driver profiling.

  • All that we used envy, Inspector, to go in there and try and even brute force.

  • Um, stuff.

  • Same battlefield five.

  • So we saw that there was even zero scaling whatsoever.

  • Although they've got this fancy envy link on top of the in video cards and PC I express 4.0, in fact, the funny thing about Peace Express four point when it comes to a m.

  • D.

  • Is when we talked about Thean be link bridge that exists on in video, they basically said, and their exact words were We don't need a bridge.

  • We've got P C 4.0, so we've got way more through put through the PC I express lanes to handle multi GPU support than needing anything with fingers.

  • And then the irony is, they don't support it all anyway.

  • So one of the things that people tend to usually do is buy two midrange cards s ally or crossfire them together and get and usually exceed the performance of the top to your card.

  • And that's not the case here.

  • Um, the 2060 Super, which is kind of like the equivalent to the 5760 in terms of pricing.

  • Neither one of those support Multi GPU anyway.

  • So I guess the whole point of this video is multi GPU, for all intents and purposes, with the exception of bragging rights of synthetic benchmarks for like three D.

  • Mark is dead, which is kind of a sad day for me.

  • And I think Phil should cue the sad piano music now because it's true, even on Skunk works.

  • When I've got to 28 e t eyes and I'm playing my games, the second card does nothing.

  • In fact, when I do live stream, though, it's kind of nice because the encoder that's built in the end beckoned Coder from NVIDIA is really, really efficient, and it's really good.

  • It's got very good bit rate control.

  • It's got very good image quality and nearly zero hit to the system.

  • And they have a second card handling your gaming on the primary card.

  • Um, yeah.

  • So this is more of a P ece.

  • If you're thinking about buying two cards, I wouldn't I would just save that money, get the top to your card.

  • Something like a 2080.

  • I would I would love to recommend something in the top tier range for a M.

  • D.

  • But we already know The radio on seven is definitely a flop compared with 5760 which is beating in many benchmarks without even over clocking it.

  • If you're going for the top tier, I need to have the best of the best.

  • You're gonna shop it like a 2 2080 or 20 t i or a super card.

  • And then you could also lie close together.

  • But like I just said, if you're looking for practical performance, you're not gonna get it with us.

  • Ally, take that money.

  • Put it into a better mother board.

  • Better CPU, more ram.

  • Just you could upgrade the entire tier of nearly every component in your system by dropping the second graphics card if you're thinking about doing that.

  • But it's but I've had a lot of people reach out to me asking me about multi GPU and s allies.

  • It's still worth it.

  • And the answer is truly know.

  • It's something that I've held out into the bitter end on admitting that it is completely unnecessary and impractical.

  • And here we are.

  • Jay's two cents, which should be days to graphics cards admitting it's dead, huh?

What's up, guys?
