To wind down my day, I make my way to Edogawa, an unagi or freshwater eel restaurant in central Nara-machi.
Tonight's dinner is a special unagi kaiseki course dinner that is limited to two groups a night.
The eel steamed first for a fluffy texture and then grilled in the shop's sweet unagi sauce.
You got the unagi on top.
The city is known for its local specialties like unagi, chicken wings, miso katsu, and Nagoya kochin chicken.
And we're here for the unagi, which is the eel.
The unagi set, which comes in a kind of a special container.
So quickly, I know that a lot of people are familiar with unagi, which is a freshwater eel.
Unagi is usually paired with a sweet sauce and definitely a lot fatter, while anago is a lighter and more sophisticated brother from another mother, but at a fraction of the price.
I got the unagi hitter right here.
Like it kind of looks like my tongue Let me just take a bite Mmm Eel is just so buttery soft the juices from the unagi kind of melt all in your mouth Some meals you get like a super super crispy on the outside This one isn't that crispy it more just kind of like melts inside of your mouth The tare that they use a sauce that they use is quite sweet But it goes so well with the sansho peppers that they put on top gives it a little bit of a spicy kick and also The rice it's been grilled So it has kind of like that crispy outer shell but not like too crispy and then it is still like quite sticky compared To like, you know normal rice and you would probably eat and you can see that it is pretty soaked in you can see that The rice has all that beautiful Sweet unagi sauce as far as the preparation goes before they actually grilled the unagi They'll steam at first so that it gets nice and fluffy That's why you probably get that melty sensation when you take the first bite.
I think those skewers are for maybe like unagi if they were gonna make unagi or fish.
Currently, we're working on a range of species, including eel or unagi, bluefin tuna, red snapper, lobster, and prawn.
... to eat some delicious unagi eels.
Now, the good thing about this shop is, it's pretty cheap for a unagi restaurant.
A lesson in the importance of Unagi.
Uh-huh, Unagi.
