It’s a beautiful story about a migrant couple,

and it’s not just about their journey being migrants,

but it’s also about the love that they share

between each other,

which is sometimes a story people don’t tell –

the human side of immigrants, migrants.

Just people suffering in and around the world

as human beings.

You have a beautiful story of that song in particular.

The song came out like a freestyle.

Being Latina, being brown-skinned in this world,

it’s really difficult to ignore what’s going on

in society right now.

I saw a little girl that looked just like me crying

for her parents, but her parents were coming

from Canada to the States,

and it took them 16 years

to get legally approved.

When everyone wants to say, “Oh, you can do it

the legal way” or “You can do it easily”

or “Why are you doing it illegally?”

all this stuff, it’s really easy for people to judge

when you’ve never had to face that kind of struggle.

So my hope is that if you go home

and you see this music video

and you see a window past privilege,

a window past privilege that you might have been given,

that we all bleed red, man,

and if you were looking out for your kids

and you had to wait 16 years

to escape from prosecution and to escape from violence,

you might do whatever you can, too,

even if it’s illegal, just to make sure

your family’s all right.
