  • -Last time you were here,

  • I think you were just coming off the giant success

  • of "Crazy Rich Asians." -Yeah.

  • -And then you were talking about "Hustlers."

  • And then "Hustlers" went on to be the biggest blockbuster --

  • -Yeah, not bad. -Not bad, yeah.

  • -I feel like it's all downhill from here.

  • -No, no. [ Cheers and applause ]

  • How great is that?

  • -Yeah, I feel really lucky and, like, I've had

  • the best experience working on both of those projects.

  • -Is there -- there's rumors of a "Crazy Rich Asians" sequel.

  • Is that still floating around, or --

  • -I hope so, because I would love to work with, you know,

  • everybody again.

  • I'm just the actor.

  • I don't produce, so I don't really know

  • what they're doing behind the scenes.

  • -Yeah. -But if they make one,

  • I'm there. I'll say that. -Yeah, alright, yeah.

  • -Yeah. [ Cheers and applause ]

  • -That's what I want. -Yeah.

  • -I heard somewhere that you don't watch your movies, really.

  • You didn't see "Hustlers"? -Well, no.

  • The last movie I watched myself in was "Crazy Rich Asians,"

  • and that's why I stopped watching myself.

  • -Really?

  • -And I haven't seen anything since.

  • None of the episodes of "Fresh Off the Boat,"

  • nor "Hustlers" have I seen since.

  • -Because you're too hard on yourself?

  • -Well -- well, I don't make it for me.

  • I make it for you guys, you know?

  • [ Cheers and applause ] -I guess so. Yeah, you're right.

  • -And then, yeah. And then, I don't know.

  • What am I gonna do, just watch my face?

  • -Yes. -For two hours?

  • -You have a great face. -Eh.

  • -I would watch that face. Yeah, come on.

  • If I had your face, I would watch that face.

  • Yeah, all the time. -Maybe we could trade someday.

  • -Alright. Perfect, we can work on that.

  • Did you see your buddy Jennifer Lopez's halftime performance?

  • -Oh, my God. Yes. -How great was that?

  • -Oh, wasn't she amazing? [ Cheers and applause ]

  • -She was -- how great was that?

  • -Yeah, it was great, and she had, like, the homage

  • to "Hustlers" with her little pole thing.

  • Shakira was amazing. But my favorite part, actually,

  • was when her daughter Emme came out and sang.

  • -Yeah, that was so cool, right? -Yeah.

  • -And I love that she's not afraid.

  • -No. -I would be frightened.

  • -She's such a pro, and she's so talented.

  • And you know, I met her on the set of "Hustlers,"

  • and she's just such a sweet girl.

  • Both of Jennifer's kids are.

  • She really raised some good kids.

  • She can do everything. -She can do everything, yeah.

  • -You guys.

  • -Did you ever think that acting was not going to be your thing?

  • What was your backup plan?

  • -Well, I've been an actor since I was 10,

  • mostly in community theater,

  • and then I was, you know, here in New York,

  • sort of slogging through auditions, not getting anything,

  • and I did give up for a about a year.

  • -You did? -Yeah, I went back to school.

  • I tried to become a speech language pathologist.

  • -Mm.

  • -And, you know, I didn't like it.

  • [ Laughter ]

  • So, then I went back to acting,

  • but of course it was really hard then

  • so I still had to wait tables,

  • but I asked myself, "Hey, are you okay

  • waiting tables for the rest of your life

  • if you can still be an actor?"

  • And I decided that, yes, I am okay with that

  • because plenty of people have careers

  • that don't line up with their passion.

  • -Yeah. -Like, they just have

  • their career as a means to support their passion,

  • whether it's their family, or they, like...

  • -Yeah. -...cool cars, I don't know.

  • -Yeah, exactly.

  • -And so I think it's the same thing with acting.

  • If you really love something,

  • you just stick with it and even if you don't

  • make money off of it, I think sticking with it is a success.

  • -Yeah, you're right. -Yeah.

  • -What is the -- I agree with that.

  • [ Cheers and applause ]

  • So far you're three for three.

  • -But then it's good to make money too.

  • -Oh, yeah. Of course. Yeah, of course.

  • -It's never that bad to do that. -What's the next big dream?

  • What's the next big move that you would, like,

  • "Oh, this is pretty challenging. I would like to do that"?

  • -Well, you know, it's always been my dream

  • since I was a teenager to do Shakespeare in the Park.

  • -Really? -Yeah.

  • -That would be amazing. -It would be so cool.

  • -I love it. They do it great here.

  • You would here or London? -No, here.

  • -Oh, really? -That's been my dream.

  • You know, 'cause I like range, right?

  • So I go from playing a suburban mother in Florida --

  • -Yeah. -To, you know, a stripper.

  • -Yeah. Yeah, that's a lot of range right there.

  • Yeah, that's -- -You know, to an ingenue,

  • and then, you know, next is "Hamlet."

  • -Yeah, why not? That would be fantastic.

  • -Yeah. -Well, they're watching.

  • So if they're casting, yeah. Let's do this.

  • -Please. [ Cheers and applause ]
