  • They were riding high on the promise from last year's San Diego comic Con, where Derrickson revealed the doctor.

  • Strange, too, would be the Marvel Cinematic universe is first scary film, and many were giddy with excitement over this prospect because after nearly two dozen films after 10 years, there's been a growing criticism amongst fans that Marvel Studios been producing movies that are a bit too similar and feel too alike in tone to one another.

  • But those fears were assuaged this week when Variety reported that horror and superhero film icon Sam Raimi was in talks to take over as director for Dr Strange, too.

  • And it's no hyperbole to say that it's hard to find any Marvel fan who was not 100% down for this prospect.

  • And I mean, who can blame them?

  • Just look at the guy's resume.

  • Sam Raimi arguably kicked off the modern day version of superhero films with his Spider Man trilogy from 2000 to 2007 which is, we all know start Tobey Maguire as the titular Spiderman, your friendly neighborhood Spider Man.

  • And while Spider Man three had its fair share of problems, most reconsider Spider Man two to be one of the best superhero films of all time pizza time.

  • Luckily, fans aren't the only ones excited by this news.

  • In fact, former doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson also weighed in with his thoughts about this update.

  • In a tweet on Thursday, Derrickson said, I've worked with Sam Raimi, one of the nicest people I've known in the film business and as a director, a true living legend.

  • What a great choice to take over Dr Strange.

  • And look.

  • Derrickson is still an executive producer on multi verse of Madison stands to make a lot of money if the film does well, so he's not gonna say anything bad about it.

  • But if he actually had misgivings, he probably would have just stayed silent about this whole thing.

  • He didn't have to tweet that he wanted to.

  • So what can we expect from Sam Raimi if he is indeed taking up this mantle as the film's new director?

  • Well, first of all, reportedly, Sam Raimi is a massive doctor.

  • Strange fan even put a doctor strange Easter egg in Spider Man two.

  • Doctor Strange.

  • That's pretty good, but it's taken, and fans who were afraid of marvel dialing back the horror in the multi verse of Madness are breathing a sigh of relief because Sam Raimi, as we mentioned, is a horror icon, both as a director and a producer with notable films like The Evil Dead Trilogy and Drag Me to Hell Under His Belt.

  • And anyone who doubts his superhero bonafides, Onley need Look to Spider Man one and two and that dance scene in Spider Man three.

  • That was a fun moment in time.

  • What does Sam Raimi think about all of this?

  • Well, he hasn't actually commented on this particular development yet, But in a 2015 interview with Weak, he said this about directing another Spider Man film that fits within the emcee you as a whole.

  • I think they're so complete now, Marvel.

  • They probably don't need me anymore.

  • But if they needed me, I'd love to.

  • It's great to be wanted.

  • All in all, Remy seems like the safest and, frankly, the best choice for both Marvel and for fans of Doctor Strange.

  • He's talented.

  • He has a personal connection to the comic book source material, and he already has the blessing of Dr Strangers former Stuart.

  • But we'll just have to wait and see if or when Marvel confirms Remy as the director for Dr Strange in the multi verse of madness in the days and weeks ahead.
