  • I hope you're having a wonderful day on.

  • Yes, as you can tell where the title of this video, I'm going to talk about what it's like to run 1/2 marathon.

  • I'm going to be talking about my experience of running my first half marathon like race because I have run half marathons like more once but my my actual first race.

  • I'm going to talk about my experience on DDE what it's like to rubble, basically.

  • So my very first half marathon Waas in March of the CS in March 2017.

  • But I ran the Cambridge half marathon.

  • Andi.

  • It's known to be a really good route, every flat, fast route.

  • It was definitely flat, fast.

  • It was really good.

  • Good stuff.

  • It's video into three sections to kind of through my eyes.

  • Talk about what I'd like to run 1/2 marathon and also what my experience was like.

  • I have notes on my phone to help me remember, but the day itself, that's the first section I'm going to talk about.

  • I wasn't really that nervous.

  • I was more excited than anything because it turned out to be my favorite running whether that day it was a faith of knowledge on pretty Shal, I think I'm not calling you remember now, but it was pouring it down.

  • It was freezing.

  • It was cold.

  • That is my favorite running with a Yes.

  • I run in that weather yesterday, and it was just like so already.

  • I was feeling more excited than nervous.

  • If I'm honest, I've ruled the day.

  • I thought it was really good.

  • I I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  • Actually, I didn't really think it was that bad, but I'll get into that later.

  • So yeah, my first experience off the half marathon like race thing.

  • I thought it was really good plan.

  • Anything.

  • I wasn't I didn't know if I was going to run it on my own or was gonna run with someone.

  • But I did end up running with my friend Ana from Spain.

  • She flew over from Spain for a week of that half bath a week to run it.

  • So that was really nice.

  • Like catching up from running with her was really, really good partner.

  • Never really have partners are like talking too much.

  • Well, so running.

  • But that was really good like she totally insisted my way of running.

  • And, you know, it was really, really good.

  • But I haven't talked about one downside personally that I found about the Cambridge health.

  • And I'm sure many other running events like this because I have quite a few running beds on It's Stephanie like this, but I thought we was definitely worse at the Cambridge Health.

  • It waas the queues for the toilet facilities.

  • I really thought they should have more toilets.

  • I mean, they already had lows, but I really think I should have more.

  • Um, I'm almost late because of curing from toilet because I didn't need the toilet until quite late on.

  • I didn't realize that I need the toilet.

  • So when they was so like announcing the categories, my category was like a father to be announced.

  • I was still the key for the toy that it was really panicking May because I thought I was going to be like I wasn't It was fine, but I really do think that we should have had more toilets.

  • That's like, sort of one of the downsides of the day, personally, something I'm sort of those that noise I'm right next to the boy like air conditioning system, whatever this is thing.

  • So yeah, Sorry for the noise.

  • I think it's just switch itself off.

  • But one thing that not too many people know about that happened Waas.

  • I had a slight accident in this race car, remember?

  • What mine it waas.

  • But in Cambridge, in the in the race, they didn't shuffle the road.

  • So we're running in one game, We're running in the left hand lane of the road.

  • I got quite narrow.

  • At one point on dhe, I stumbled over a code traffic cone.

  • I didn't fall.

  • That's kind of stumbled over.

  • Like I kind of went over it, but I didn't actually fold out is kind of like my body went over it.

  • I didn't injure myself or anything.

  • It just kind of shocked.

  • Maybe it was like, Whoa, where the hell did that cone cover?

  • Yeah.

  • So that was one thing that happened that not many people.

  • Your box.

  • I was a tad embarrassed, but you know what?

  • If you haven't had a proper fall, you know, proper runner.

  • That's what I've always told.

  • So I guess I'm a proper running.

  • L I talked about this in a later section.

  • But throughout the race, my knee was completely fine, which was mental.

  • White Ray didn't think it was going to be fine on especially stumbling of the code.

  • I thought like, Oh my God, I hurt my knee didn't even hurt myself.

  • So that was really nice not to be in pain.

  • The one thing that I noticed at the end of it everything I got aching legs, whatever.

  • That's fine.

  • One thing I noticed was really about me.

  • It was my call.

  • My stomach hurts so much because you're tensing of stuff.

  • You know, you're working your core as your you know, keeping upright, maintaining this being from Mars more miles on.

  • I really found that I should have focused Mawr in my training on, like in the cross training part of it.

  • I'm working on my course Oh, my stomach and absent things.

  • That was something I really found was painful.

  • At the end of it.

  • I was actually inspired Thio.

  • I should have said this everyone in the video, but I was actually inspired also to run this team breathless video to make this video, because when was it?

  • Now we can before lost.

  • I actually ran 1/2 marathon, or just over half my distance from my local town to Cambridge.

  • Adam Burke City.

  • No Cambridge.

  • You'll know Addenbrooke's hospital.

  • So yeah, that was really cool.

  • And I thoroughly enjoyed it the last time I run the Roman road.

  • It's my way.

  • It's called the Roman Road Lost seven run that I was quite badly injured, which I'll speak about as well in future section.

  • Yeah, it was quite badly injured, too.

  • Lost someone one.

  • It's really good this time to know being paying, like cherish, not being in paid so nice.

  • OK, so the second section going to talk about is training.

  • If you've heard of the Great North run up in Newcastle, Um, my mom actually run that a few years ago.

  • He was three or four years ago now when we lived up north, and through that online, I found 1/2 marathon training town, which was really, really good on.

  • I used that primarily is like a base to work from.

  • Andi got information from my mom from other runners because Mom is a runner.

  • If you didn't know, I kind of compiled all that together I made my own training pound, but majorly based off of the Great North Road training plan it was it was along the lines of, like 33 whole months.

  • Maybe just send a full month.

  • It was really good, but yes, with my training, I had a persistent knee injury from a full I hade last March.

  • So exactly here before the Cambridge I'll probably talk about it in a different video.

  • You really want to talk about it now?

  • Yeah, her persistent bad knee injury and it was always like the ligaments.

  • And oh, it was It's horrible, like my kneecap.

  • And it's just no new trouble is just not good.

  • Like it's just so painful.

  • Recommend having about me because my other knee had to sort of compensate for Bad World, which was my left one.

  • The right one now plays up quite a bit, still does on enough, so I'm kind of working through up.

  • But yeah, I have dodgy knees throughout training and really, really quite bad times.

  • It got really, really bad just before Christmas off 2016 at the Christmas holidays, because I was in college at the time.

  • I did aerobics busier exercises.

  • Um, swimming s O if you know, helping my joints and things on that honestly, like, saved my knee.

  • When it came to January, I was back on point, like with my name.

  • So definitely taking into consideration for future things.

  • Working at my core, I'm maintaining my knee kind of issues.

  • So definitely something for you to consider.

  • If you're running 1/2 marathon, don't get cross train, make sure you do physio exercises, aerobics stuff, swimming, swimming really good for stuff like that.

  • So the final section is what I thought overall about running half marathons personally for me, I think half marathon distance.

  • Is there a reason for me?

  • Personally, I think it's a raving feet.

  • Be able to do it since saying like congratulations to everyone who's ever someone, It's amazing.

  • That's half marathon, you know, was 13 miles.

  • They didn't say how long how Bertha Moi ce.

  • I probably should have said about at some point in the video how Barton is 13 point one.

  • I think overall, you know, I was never to use my training, would have liked you to illness injury, but my expectations would be able to complete it in two hours and 40 minutes.

  • Two hours.

  • 45 um, sort.

  • Two hours.

  • 50.

  • Maybe because I was really, like, does not thinking I was gonna be that great at all, actually ended up completing in two hours, 21 minutes, which, like, for me, that's amazing.

  • Like I didn't know, even expect that I was.

  • It's certain shock.

  • Quite nice When?

  • Because I had the results Text to my phone.

  • Oh, my gosh.

  • Like Matt, I think if I could speak to myself in the past, I'd say, Don't be so harsh on yourself.

  • Don't be so negative about what you think I could do.

  • You could do better than you think.

  • But you know what?

  • It was really nice to be surprised.

  • So that was great on the last one for me.

  • Personally ready?

  • Speaking to all years.

  • Well, um, that especially like to be personally because I was kind of forget this is always remember to do call exercises, work my abs, I call the stomach area because, seriously, that's something I look in exercise.

  • Yeah, I've just felt so sick after the heart.

  • I sort of experience that after the Roman road through the other week.

  • So, yeah, I don't think I have to work in my core.
