  • Our next guest is a Democratic presidential candidate who also just so happens to represent our great state of California.

  • Theo, I do very, very well.

  • You know, your makeup artists are fabulous way.

  • So you were in the middle of a jam packed schedule, which also includes Howard University's homecoming.

  • You are proud a lot I am.

  • And what do you like most about the events?

  • You know, homecoming.

  • And I used to go back forever, and it really is homecoming.

  • When you attend an HBCU, it really is about being an environment where everything tells you you can be whatever you choose to be and it will be supported.

  • And, you know, there's so much about about it now.

  • For me is running for president that I realized really did set the mold for me because, you know, now in the campaign, people are saying, Oh, you know, electability.

  • It's coming up right?

  • Is America ready to elect a black woman to be president?

  • Right, Right.

  • But you know, this is not a new conversation for me.

  • Every time I've run for office, that conversation has come up well, I don't know nobody like you has ever done it before.

  • Maybe it's just not your time.

  • Maybe it's not your turner.

  • Well, I really think you could do it, but I don't know about my neighbors.

  • Right?

  • And when you go to an HBCU, ugh, it just is ingrained in you what I know to be true, which is that we should never be burdened by what has been to know what can be.

  • It's about being able to see what can be, even if it's not been seen before and right.

  • And it's It's about an environment that encourages that kind of path, knowing that it is possible and that people believe in it and then you can achieve right right.

  • That's so true way also know that colleges are really expensive.

  • So you have any plans to help students with loan debt?

  • I do.

  • And to your point, I've met students.

  • I'm not a young woman recently who said, You know, you talk a lot about Children, which I do, and she said, um, I'm not gonna have Children and I said Why?

  • And she said, because I have figured out that I cannot afford to have Children and pay off my student loan debt and This is happening around the country where young people are just saying that they're making critical life decisions based on their student loan.

  • So a number of things one.

  • I will make sure that we have debt free college freak thing community college, but also interest free loans because nobody should be profiting off of someone's desire on.

  • Then I'll be rolling out a plan shortly.

  • That will be for debt forgiveness.

  • Fruit, fruit.

  • Anyone who's making under $100,000 a year, you actually have 21 is 19 and one is 24.

  • So have they given you any help while you're on this campaign trail?

  • You know they're wonderful, and part of it is L.

  • A R daughter named after Ella Fitzgerald.

  • Um, she will say to me, You know, you need to really do more videos and you need to you know, maybe it was social media, and so she's always encouraging that, but really, they both talk about what you know.

  • We really have a responsibility to deal with, which is the crisis that is our changing climate and the need to embrace science fact.

  • Instead of pushing science fiction like the guy in the White House right now is doing because truly, if we do not act in the next 12 years, it will be to our collective detriment.
