  • She's here, and she's going to speak out.

  • For the first time since her son's sudden death last year, the corner found that her son died of pneumonia.

  • But before we sit down with Judy, let's take a look back at the career and tragic death of Cory Limbs.

  • Do that, Didn't you know?

  • Just like big, strong guys Just 14 years old in 1986 Corey Haim was already a star playing the title role in the film.

  • Lucas.

  • Can you imagine that?

  • Turning from something up something beautiful, he seemed poised to become one of the best actors of his generation, but instead his larger than life persona soon eclipsed his artistic promise.

  • By the end of the eighties, he and his friend Corey Feldman, known as the Two Quarries, were scoring big at the box office with hits Lost Boys.

  • Yeah, well, what happens if my mom is dating the head vampire and license to drive?

  • Yes, it seemed like all of Haynes real life dreams were coming true.

  • But the teenager who had come to Hollywood from Toronto with his mom when he was 12 was quickly sliding into a substance abuse nightmare.

  • I'm not guilty but myself, everybody what I was doing, no work this in that, Haimes said.

  • He smoked marijuana for the first time at age 15 and by 19 he was fighting addiction to Valium and crack work dried up in the nineties.

  • But Haynes addictions continue to spiral.

  • He cycled in and out of rehab.

  • As he told us in 2007.

  • For me, rock bottom is I can't live in mirror anymore.

  • Finally, that same year, he was given a second chance in The Two Coreys, a TV show about his relationship with Feldman.

  • It's not personal, todo everyone In that movie.

  • He was also getting some roles in films, again living with his mother, Judy, in North Hollywood, which is where she took these never before seen photos her son caring for her while she battled cancer.

  • But on March 10th 2010 the moment his family and friends had always feared, four powerful prescription drugs were discovered in the home.

  • But the autopsy ultimately found that the 38 year old died from pulmonary congestion, a tragic end for the young man who once said quote, I want people to think I'm just really, really good.

  • And Corey, Haim's mother, Judy, is with us here.

  • Now.

  • It's good to meet you, Judy.

  • Good to meet you.

  • I know that you have been battling cancer.

  • How are you doing?

  • Yes, I'm doing okay considering.

  • Guess I'm doing fine.

  • I'm hoping I'm in remission.

  • I had my, uh I'm finished with only drink minutes.

  • Yeah, I know that.

  • Your son, he moved in together after you were diagnosed because he wanted to take care of you.

  • That's something that he always wanted to do.

  • You all were so incredibly close.

  • How have you gotten to this Almost a year now.

  • Well, it's been very difficult.

  • Oh, my God.

  • To say the least.

  • You know, I was thinking last July, I think 2009 and, um and it was a shock.

  • It was a shock to my daughter came down as well for my operation.

  • My son was there, and then she had to go back to Toronto.

  • Cory and I lived together.

  • I lived with him, by the way, is in a lot of misconceptions out there, all right.

  • And, um, he was awesome.

  • I have to say he was really petrified.

  • He didn't know what to do with.

  • He was really scared.

  • When?

  • When?

  • Actually, they said that you have cancer, breast cancer.

  • He tried to make light of it, You know, um hey, was there were it was there.

  • He was holding my hand.

  • He went to every single doctor with me.

  • He went through the chemo with me part of the radiation because he passed away in the midst of my radio show.

  • You stopped at that?

  • I stopped at a point.

  • Yes.

  • You You were there way.

  • Heard the 911 call.

  • Could you just recall for us that they may be the day leading up?

  • How was he feeling?

  • What was he doing?

  • You know, I gotta tell you, Cory and I played a lot of Frisbee together.

  • We stayed at the Oakwood Apartments and we always played on the courts and schools.

  • And the night before, he said, Do you wanna play?

  • It was really cold outside with very one day, and he said, You want to play for his being.

  • I said yes.

  • And we went and we played for us, and usually we play closer on our.

  • We played for about 30 seconds and he says, You know what, Mom?

  • I'm not feeling well, let's go back.

  • So I thought, he's coming down with something.

  • So the night went fine, and the next morning I came back from my radiation and historic with a favorite story getting sick.

  • The fever's was like home with him all day, trying to monitor his fever, putting compresses on this, have giving him a whole bunch of stuff, you know, trying to get in a lot of drinks.

  • And that's the whole day went like that.

  • It wasn't anything at all at all that I would have worried about, you know, except just 101 fever.

  • Whatever it was, he told me that his chest and his back were hurting him.

  • Can I please rub it?

  • And I did with fix back and forth.

  • You know, he just he had the cold looks like something like that.

  • Salute.

  • And I don't have to tell you.

  • You know what people said right after his death that it had to be a drug overdose, and there were prescription drugs that were found, but the corner a few months later, said no, it was pneumonia.

  • But let me ask you this duty.

  • Your son was very open and talking about the struggles that he had had with drugs and that I want to ask you, Did he ever talk to you about the pressures of being a young star?

  • How to talk to me about that?

  • Really?

  • I mean, I was there from day one, you know, so he didn't.

  • But, you know, aside from all of that, I know the struggles of Hollywood.

  • Um, he he was doing fine.

  • He was fully booked from his agent.

  • Starling talent, fully booked for 2010 was doing amazing.

  • He was nearly sick that they died in my arms.

  • Um, I knew he was nothing else, but I didn't know exactly what it was.

  • I had to wait for the coroner's report and the autopsy and all of that stuff.

  • And there were a lot of speculations the following day for sure, which really upset me badly, by the way, because, you know, right, But the fact that there were prescription bottles that were found there and he had he even talked to t c news.

  • There was 7 4008 talking about it.

  • Is there anything that you as a parent?

  • Because you know, there's so many families, whether in Hollywood or not that deal with Children that are struggling with different types of addiction?

  • Is there anything is apparent that you would have done differently to help?

  • Absolutely nuts.

  • Korea's answer was the same way.

  • You know, people ask him about all the time.

  • I wouldn't have been here today if we didn't go through our path.

  • You know what I mean?

  • We were supposed to obviously go through this experience to get at this point, you know, with my new grandchild being born, which is a miracle.

  • Thank God.

  • You know, with going through my cancer with losing my son, you know who was my best friend in the whole wide world?

  • You know, within seven months, somebody's life can turn around and hit you in the face, and you don't know what's going on, you know?

  • So with all the struggles, you know, I just want to honor his his memory.

  • We're coming up on one year, which is March 10th.

  • Uh, it's extremely hard to even believe that he's not here.

  • Um, I know you also want to thank his fans.

  • I have been, you know, I have to tell you, the letters that I received hundreds of them from all over the world were so heartbreaking, I couldn't even read them for for like, over six months.

  • Because I read one and I put it down and I read another one, but I just There's no wait.

  • I just recently answered every one of them back and thank them all.

  • There were true, true riel fans that actually really understood him.

  • Funny enough, they got him.

  • And I know they were.

  • They were there for you too, Judy.

  • I know there wasn't very much for me, and it wasn't easy for you to come forward, but it was very important for you to honor your son and thank you very much for being here.

  • It's my pleasure.

  • Thank you for having me.

  • You know, I just want everybody to remember him for the wonderful human being that he was an and a great actor.

  • All right.

  • And you continue to take care of yourself.
