  • A lot of people know the Magic Kingdom as one of the four theme parks in Walt Disney World in Florida.

  • But Disneyland in California, is the original Magic Kingdom. From 1957 until the early 90s

  • Disneyland used to be heavily referred to as "The Magic Kingdom".

  • They stopped using it as much to make a clearer distinction between Disneyland in California, and the Magic Kingdom theme park in Florida.

  • But that's not to say that this nickname for Disneyland is no longer used. While walking around Disneyland's Main Street

  • you still hear the conductor refer to the park as Walt Disney's Magic Kingdom.

  • All the disneyland style parks around the world follow Walt's Magic Kingdom's hub-and-spoke

  • design, and when creating the Magic Kingdom theme park in Walt Disney World

  • Disneyland was the model. Many of the rides and attractions from Disneyland were found at Magic Kingdom on opening day in

  • 1971. Any time I visit Magic Kingdom

  • I always head to Adventureland and frontier land first.

  • Those two lands have some of my favorite rides and a lot of these rides can also be found at Disneyland

  • so I thought it would be fun to look at these rides history while

  • Analyzing and comparing the rides on both coasts to see which park does that ride the best.

  • Although I talk a lot about Walt Disney World on this channel. You'll probably be surprised with some of my opinions in the video

  • So sit back and get ready to count down the top Disney World verse Disneyland rides the Adventureland in Frontierland Edition

  • Number five the first ride. We'll start with is the world-famous Jungle Cruise

  • The ride was an opening day Adventureland attraction at both Disney Land and Magic Kingdom

  • The Jungle Cruise is known for its humor and puns and each ride shares similar scenes like the elephant bathing pool

  • Headhunter territory and the hippo pool just in a different order for example at Disneyland

  • The Indian elephant pool is the second scene whereas at Magic Kingdom

  • It happens way after you pass behind Switzer Falls and through the Cambodian temple

  • One major difference between the two rides is that Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise? Has that indoor?

  • Cambodian temple scene with the Bengal tiger

  • It really makes this version of the ride stand out and acts as a nice contrast between the outdoor elements

  • At Disneyland they have the Cambodian ruins at the beginning of the ride

  • And that's where their Bengal tiger can be found

  • the current version of the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland isn't even the original incarnation of the ride that opened in 1955 from

  • 1957 until

  • 1976 the rights saw many major additions that added more humor to the ride

  • some of the additions included the Indian elephant pool and the Cambodian ruins and 1962 the trap safari scene in

  • 1964 and the gorilla camp the Bengal tiger and the Python in

  • 1976 a lot of the later editions were influenced by mark Davis's designs and ideas from Magic Kingdom's Jungle Cruise

  • Which opened in 1971?

  • Your ride experience really depends on who your skipper is and both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom have some really great skippers

  • This one's a close call. But the indoor Cambodian temple scene really brings the ride to the next level

  • So in the case of the Jungle Cruise Magic Kingdom, does it the best?

  • Number for

  • another classic Disney attraction that's become a Disney park staple is Pirates of the Caribbean the right at Disneyland opened in

  • 1967 and can be found in New Orleans square whereas Magic Kingdom's didn't open until

  • 1973 and can be found in Adventureland now right away. I'm just going to come out and say that

  • Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean is far superior to Magic Kingdom's

  • the ride at Magic Kingdom feels rushed and in a sense

  • It actually was rushed since it wasn't intended to be part of the park. We've mentioned this briefly in a past video

  • but when Magic ingdom opened in 1971

  • Guests were outraged that the iconic Pirates of the Caribbean attraction from Disneyland didn't have a home in Walt Disney World

  • So in order to please the guests and increase park capacity Disney rush to get Pirates of the Caribbean open in Florida now

  • California's ride is almost twice as long has two sizeable drops and many scenes that Florida doesn't have at

  • Magic Kingdom the ride uses mainly the core of the show scenes from Disneyland

  • But the parts that were left out in Florida are what make Disneyland ride far superior

  • Nothing beats starting your journey in this beautiful indoor, Louisiana bayou

  • Then after the two drops that were initially designed to pass under the Disneyland train tracks you find yourself in the underground

  • grotto of dead man's Cove

  • Disneyland's dead, man

  • Kove has multiple scenes that were left out in Florida like the treasure room both parks now have the new auction scene

  • but once you pass the small jail cell in Florida the right pretty much ends right away with Jack Sparrow as your light into the

  • Unload station after the jail scene at Disneyland. There's an additional scene through the storage room

  • Then you see Jack Sparrow as your boat climbs up the lift hill

  • There's also this mini scene just before you return to the unload platform

  • Disneyland has a complete beginning with a nice intro to the story that builds to the climax of the action followed by a

  • Full-fledged ending that brings you back into the environment you first started in Magic Kingdom's ride just feels like it starts and ends way

  • Too quickly, which is why Disneyland does Pirates of the Caribbean the best?

  • number three Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room opened at Disneyland in

  • 1963 then eight years later. It was one of the opening day attractions at Magic Kingdom in

  • 1971 the Enchanted Tiki Room was the first attraction at Disneyland

  • To ever feature audio animatronics and when it opened at Magic Kingdom, it was actually called the tropical serenade

  • It was pretty much the exact same show

  • That was at Disneyland, but the pre-show areas are different in their respective parks today

  • Neither of the attractions are the exact same show that originally opened in 1963

  • Disneyland's was condensed by a couple minutes in the mid-90s and

  • Magic Kingdom cut about six minutes off the original show when it officially became the Enchanted Tiki Room in

  • 2011

  • from 1998 until

  • 2011 the original tropical serenade became the Enchanted Tiki Room under new management featuring Iago and Zazu and

  • January of 2011 there was a small fire in the building and when the sprinklers went off it caused damage to the animatronics

  • Including Iago's animatronic the attraction had to close and since audiences were less than thrilled with a new management show

  • Disney decided to head back to the attractions roots, and now it's the show we all know today

  • Overall the attraction is very very similar in both parks

  • But there's just something about Disneyland's Tiki room that has this charm and is actually pretty enchanting

  • I mean these were some of the first animatronics that Walt Disney himself was able to oversee

  • Although the animatronics were replaced in the mid-2000s

  • They still kept the integrity of the figures and there's still so much history in this attraction

  • you don't get this same feeling when you're in Florida not to mention that the Florida attraction is a

  • Shorter show also the waiting area in California has a dole up stand right there and who doesn't love a good Dole Whip, right?

  • Not to mention Disneyland also has Maynard

  • He's a very well-known Disneyland cast member who spends a lot of time working this attraction and he puts on a show himself

  • Although it's a close call. I'm gonna say that Disneyland does the Enchanted Tiki Room the best

  • Number to

  • Splash Mountain is one of the popular thrill rides at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom and are perfect for cooling off on that hot day

  • Disneyland Splash Mountain was the first to open in July of

  • 1989 and can be found in critter country whereas at Magic Kingdom Splash Mountain

  • Opened in 1992 and can be found in Frontierland

  • the ride at Disneyland was the results of

  • Imagineers being

  • tasked with building a new ride to get people over to what was then bear country while trying to find a way to cut some

  • costs and reuse the old

  • animatronics from the old America sings attraction

  • The ride was such a hit that Michael Eisner decided that the Magic Kingdom also needed its very own Splash Mountain

  • Magic Kingdom's version is about a minute and a half longer than Disneyland

  • Coming in with a ride time of 10 minutes and 40 seconds

  • Both rides feature the iconic fifty two and a half foot plunge down chickaphant hill in addition to other smaller drops

  • Magic Kingdom has a total of five drops as opposed to Disneyland's three drops

  • One major difference you'll notice just by looking at the ride is the seating arrangement of the ride vehicles

  • Disneyland has a single-seater log whereas Florida uses a larger double cedar logs

  • Splash Mountain is filled with animatronics

  • And I think it's fascinating that the old animatronics from America sings were repurposed into the ride at Disneyland

  • But the animatronics at Magic Kingdom are much better figures in my opinion just as an example

  • This is Brer Fox in Florida, and this is Brer Fox in

  • California the story at Magic Kingdom is also easier to follow and makes more sense

  • Compared to the way the animatronics tell the story at Disneyland in many scenes

  • It's apparent that it was an attempt to use as many old animatronics as possible and don't get me wrong

  • I love animatronics obviously, but for the sake of this comparison

  • This is where it loses some points

  • also

  • If you've ever listened closely to both soundtracks

  • Splash Mountain that Disneyland follows more of a big-band jazz feel to match New Orleans Square

  • At Magic Kingdom Splash Mountain score has more of a country bluegrass feel with banjos and

  • harmonicas that match the Old West vibe of frontier land

  • I

  • Personally think the soundtrack at Magic Kingdom matches the Brer characters and atmosphere a lot better now

  • I'm not saying that Disneyland Splash Mountain is a bad ride by any means

  • But this is one of those cases where Disney's first attempt at a ride wasn't the best version they've constructed

  • Using what they learned at Disneyland they were better able to refine the ride for Florida

  • So the Magic Kingdom in Florida does Splash Mountain the best?

  • Number one at both parks frontier land is home to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

  • the coaster at Disneyland opened in September of

  • 1979 and Magic Kingdom's opened shortly after in November of 1980

  • They're both the wildest ride in the wilderness and the track layout of Magic Kingdom is pretty much a mirror image of the layout in

  • Disneyland the ride in Florida does take up 25% more space with its theming and cue

  • But both have three lift hills and reach top speeds of about 35 miles per hour

  • The queue at Magic Kingdom does offer some pretty spectacular

  • Views of the Monument Valley and the entire landscape of the ride compared to what you see at Disneyland up until 2013

  • I'd say both rides were pretty equal, but would probably declare Magic Kingdom as the winner since it has a superior queue

  • January 7th 2013

  • marked the day that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland closed for the most

  • Extensive refurb the ride had ever seen it was closed for over a year

  • And once it reopened on March 17 2014 it became the superior version of the two in my opinion

  • Thunder Mountain at Disneyland is now much smoother since Disney replaced about two-thirds of the track during that refurb and

  • there is new trains added the third lift Hill also saw some new effects which included projection mapping for the ignition of the dynamite as

  • Well as blasts of smoke for the explosion

  • The third lift Hill in Florida currently has no effects

  • But when the ride first opened at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland, this lift Hill used to have a falling rock effect

  • You can see it here where many of the rocks had the ability to move and shake after an incident in

  • 2011 at Disneyland Paris, the effect was shut off at all parks

  • but the difference between

  • Disneyland and Disney World is that Disneyland actually replace the effect and Magic Kingdom has not and that's with many

  • multi-month refurbs since 2011

  • I'll still give Magic Kingdom a point for the queue but in terms of the ride experience

  • Which is what I'm primarily focusing on Disneyland thus Thunder Mountain the best

  • So do you agree with these choices and if you don't which versions of the rides would you choose?

  • I'd love to know so leave a comment down below to start a conversation

  • Now this video format was a bit different from what's been done in the past

  • So if you enjoyed this be sure to give the video a like

  • and who knows maybe they'll be a part two or three since there's many more of the same rides at both resorts and
