  • Being from Texas, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders

  • are a group of girls that I've always just really admired.

  • I'm very, very pumped to be here.

  • I'm a huge fan of all y'all, and I'm really proud

  • to be from Texas, and East Texas, also.

  • So thanks for having me.

  • I've been really excited about this (chuckles).

  • and I know they make the girl's boots.

  • I thought it would be a great fit

  • to bring along a pair for each of them

  • that I actually got to design myself.

  • And they're adorable, I'm gonna wear them all the time.

  • So, it's a super big honor.

  • - My daughter entered a contest

  • to have Demi Lovato party at our house, and we won (laughs).

  • (upbeat music)

  • - Now we're gonna do a run through with the girls.

  • We're operating on the fly a little bit,

  • and we are gonna just see what we can do.

  • - Don't go up until she passes.

  • Gonna give her the full Dallas effects,

  • so we're welcoming her with open arms,

  • just like we do with all of our players on game day.

  • - We heard that your mom was a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.

  • Is that correct? - Yes, in 1983!

  • - Wow, I heard she cheered with our choreographer, Judy.

  • - Yes, she did, she loved her.

  • It means so much to me that the cheerleaders

  • came out to support me.

  • I grew up rooting for the Cowboys, I still do.

  • My mom was a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader,

  • so I grew up wanting to be one.

  • It's cool to see them support me at my house party.

  • - We do have a special guest tonight,

  • and I'm really excited, because she's got

  • chart-toping country hits.

  • In my opinion, one of country's it-girls.

  • And so, I think she's gonna bring us

  • some great expertise on performance.

  • So, please welcome RaeLynn!

  • with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

  • They're such a staple in the cheerleading world.

  • And to be able to hang out with these girls is so much fun.

  • - So we took the liberty of taking one said artist's song,

  • and they girls choreographed it,

  • and we wanted to show it to you.

  • - Oh my god, I'm so excited! (women laugh)

  • who actually created, wrote, and sang the song

  • was so amazing, just so awesome to perform for her today.

  • (women cheer) When I saw the girls

  • performing to "Lonely Call", I teared up.

  • How long did it take y'all to work on that dance?

  • - They actually did that on their own time.

  • That's the first time I've seen it, too.

  • - That's awesome. - And I think y'all

  • did awesome. - And the fact

  • that they took their spare time

  • in the middle of all this craziness

  • to do this was so sweet.

  • - It's always exciting to have great artists

  • share with the girls their experiences and knowledge.

  • - All the girls were so sweet, so loving,

  • and just all so talented.

  • I honestly felt like I could have had a slumber party

  • with all of them, they're all so sweet.

  • (pom poms rustling)

  • - [Kelli] Oh yeah, that's it (laughs).

  • - Yes!

  • - I love to bring in other entertainers

  • to motivate them to keep pushing forward.

  • Someone who's a poster child for the come-back kid.

  • One of the contestants of American Idol,

  • the winner of Dancing with the Stars,

  • the star of her own television show, Miss Kellie Pickler.

  • - Welcome to the stadium. - Well, hello!

  • Thank you, hey y'all!

  • Congratulations on making it this far, that's so wonderful!

  • I'm so happy to be here.

  • - We're thrilled to have you. - Thank you.

  • - We think so much of you, A, as an entertainer,

  • and a songwriter, and a dancer.

  • I asked Kellie what was harder for her,

  • American Idol or Dancing with the Stars.

  • And some of the things that she said to me were so profound.

  • That's when we thought, "Man, it'd be great

  • "if you could come visit the girls."

  • So, I'm gonna let you answer that question.

  • - Doing American Idol, and then Dancing with the Stars, woo!

  • Simon Cowell and Len, (Kelli chuckles)

  • yeah, it's tough.

  • With American Idol, I got in line

  • because I was chasing a dream

  • that would hopefully lead me to Nashville.

  • And thankfully, it did so.

  • Idol was a little trickier in the sense of

  • that's what I was the most passionate about, music,

  • so you didn't wanna be told, "No."

  • You don't want to get the boot, you know?

  • It's a scary thing to put yourself out there in the world

  • to be picked apart, and that's what you're doing today.

  • - You're actually here probably one

  • of the most critical nights

  • of the process. - And I'm tough.

  • - And we would appreciate your opinion 'cause we're really,

  • as you know, we're looking for entertainers.

  • I think it's time for y'all to take the turf.

  • - All right, let's do it, let's kick it off.

  • This is the part when I say I don't want ya

  • - On the very end. - Kyndall.

  • - Does her own thing every now and then.

  • - [Kelli] She moves like a little girl,

  • and I want her to look like a pretty girl that she is.

  • - [Kellie] Haelynn's too fast.

  • This is the part when I say I don't want ya

  • - Amy, you're a different person on the sidelines

  • than you are traveling across the field.

  • - Brynan didn't have her best night.

  • She looks a little ridged and awkward.

  • And I can't resist it no more

  • - At this phase of the season, we're eliminating some.

  • And it's hard.

  • I don't think we saw totally eye to eye.

  • - Narrow it down to 10 girls.

  • It's like if I'm picking guitar players,

  • I wanna see them battle it out.

  • You wanna be lead guitar player, show me why.

  • (suspenseful country music)

  • Y'all have a hard decision to make (chuckles),

  • I'm just like, ah!

  • No matter what you do in life,

  • you never stop paying your dues.

  • You never not make sacrifices for what you love,

  • for what you're passionate about.

  • You have to work hard.

  • It's easier to get to the top than it is to stay there.

  • There's always gonna be somebody a little younger,

  • a little more in shape, never been injured.

  • For a long as you wanna wear that uniform

  • you have to work for it.

  • Nobody's safe, nobody.

  • - [Kelli] Kellie, I know I speak on behalf of everybody,

  • you have won my heart.

  • You are amazing.

  • - It's an honor to be here, it really is, truly is.

  • - [Kelli] One, two, three.

  • - [Kellie] Being here and seeing the girls first-hand

  • out here on the field working so hard, so disciplined,

  • I am so proud of all of them. - Yay!

  • - I can't wait to see who's gonna make the team.

  • - Okay, we are going to roll back the rehearsal footage

  • that you just did.

  • Pay particular attention to moving down the field.

  • It is plain as day if your hitting those lines

  • on four and eight.

  • is pay close attention to it,

  • you'll see what we've been saying.

  • And then we'll start, we'll do the same thing again.

  • some more sidelines.

  • Ladies sometimes seeing is believing.

  • And believing in yourself is the only thing

  • that will make you successful here in this stadium.

  • You have been pushed beyond natural limits.

  • We need you to believe in yourself,

  • and believe in this team forever more.

  • - Ladies, tonight is a very, very exciting night.

  • I'm so excited, we have a surprise for you.

  • We have a special guest that is joining us tonight.

  • Dallas Cowboys Head Coach, Jason Garrett.

  • - Really, Coach Garrett's here?

  • Just to be in the same room with him is amazing.

  • - Hey guys.

  • I'm a huge fan of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

  • They've been a huge asset to this organization

  • for a long, long time, and it's a real privilege

  • to be able to come down here and talk to the girls.

  • - [Kelli] There are our veterans, they're in blue.

  • And these are our rookie candidates.

  • They'll know 50 routines before the first game.

  • - Wow.

  • - I just wanted Coach Garrett to come in here

  • and share a few words of wisdom.

  • Thank you for joining us.

  • I wanna say congratulations.

  • It's a long tradition here

  • with the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,

  • and it's hard to get in this room.

  • So, it's a real privilege to do this.

  • It's difficult to be a world-class performer.

  • And it takes a lot of people doing things the right way

  • over and over and over again on a daily basis.

  • If you come out of our team meeting room,

  • we have this big sign, it's 4x6, it says, "Mental Toughness,

  • "be your best regardless of circumstance."

  • I'm sure at some point Kelli says something to you guys

  • that you don't really like.

  • (women laugh) How do we respond to that?

  • Do we say, "Aw, she's mean,"?

  • We kind of go into a little shell.

  • Or do we just throw our shoulders back,

  • and be our best regardless of what the circumstances are?

  • And I think if you think about that in your everyday life,

  • it's a good guide for how to behave,

  • and maybe more importantly, how to think.

  • That's gonna allow you to survive

  • and thrive in a situation like this.

  • And that's how we define mental toughness.

  • Our players hear me say this 100 times a day.

  • So, that's my message for you.

  • is just something that we've always wanted to do.

  • I think the one thing that my sister and I

  • have had to overcome is our scoliosis.

  • We had to wear back braces till we were about 16,

  • our junior year in high school.

  • - [Emily] We've just been so blessed and fortunate

  • to not have to get surgery.

  • And everything is in place, and staying,

  • and we're good right now.

  • We're so excited to be here,

  • we wouldn't trade it for the world.

  • Well, I know this is the time when the stress

  • really starts to kick in.

  • You know when one mistake unfortunately

  • can be the make or break.

  • - The pressures of training camp

  • can definitely get heavy on everyone,

  • so Melissa Rycroft, she's great mentor for us

  • because not only has she been in our shoes,

  • but she also has experience in arenas around the world.

  • - Okay, so now we are gonna dance as a group.

  • Apply the corrections that we just made.
