  • I'm switching it off. How do I do that, Martijn?

  • Sorry. You were probably thinking only people from the Voice of Holland drive a Mitsubishi ASX.

  • But no, there are 125 for sale in the Netherlands.

  • Because Mitsubishi is more than the Outlander PHEV, we wanted to look at the ASX as well.

  • The ASX was introduced in 2010.

  • It got a facelift in 2012. That is fast.

  • This was not repeated.

  • It did get a facelift for the US market last year, where it's called the Outlander Sport.

  • In some countries it's sold as the RVR.

  • The US version got an update, but we won't get it for now.

  • If I'm correct, there will be a new ASX next year.

  • The ASX competes with the Tiguan and Qashqai.

  • Of course, it has many similarities with the Citroen C4 Aircross and the Peugeot 4008.

  • That one.

  • The cars look the same. They have different noses and taillights, but they're similar.

  • You can choose between gasoline and diesel engines.

  • I said engines, but there is only one gasoline engine; the 1.6 ClearTec.

  • It has 114 hp.

  • The diesel engine is the 1.8 DI-D, which has two varieties.

  • One has 112 hp, the other 115 hp.

  • Strangely enough, at one point they were sold alongside each other.

  • ENGINES gasoline, diesel

  • About 125 are for sale.

  • Almost all have a gasoline engine.

  • When shooting this video, 4 cars with a diesel engine are for sale.

  • One of those has a diesel engine which has never been an option in the Netherlands;

  • the 2.2 diesel engine was probably imported from Germany or wherever.

  • We found only 2 automatic transmissions, which is strange.

  • Those cars were imported as well. The Netherlands only got a manual transmission.

  • Colors are rare as well.

  • Over 90% is grey, white, or black.

  • There are a few blue ones, but that's it.

  • Prices start a little under 10,000 euros and go up until 24,000 euros.

  • There are more expensive cars on Marktplaats, but those are new cars.

  • They have only 15 km (9 miles) on the clock.

  • These cars were not even used as dealer demo, but somehow ended up on Marktplaats.

  • Reasons to buy an ASX.

  • First of all, it is a well composed car.

  • The engine is not very quick or anything, but the handling isn't bad for such a tall car.

  • Secondly, hardly anything ever breaks down.

  • This takes us to the few things to watch out for.

  • Let's start with the two most important ones.

  • The first one: when buying a car with Keyless Go, the car may not recognize the key at some point.

  • You will only be able to leave with the emergency key.

  • You can slide it out of the normal key.

  • The instruction booklet tells you how to solve this, so you can drive.

  • The other one: the diesel engines, especially those with a lot of miles on the clock

  • (over 300,000 km / 186,000 miles) can have problems with the computer.

  • There is something wrong with the airflow in the engine.

  • Hot air is blown in the sump.

  • The piston rings may get stuck and the heat can damage the cylinder walls and pistons.

  • When you hear strange sounds from the diesel engine, stop the car.

  • Let the car cool down and make sure it gets to the dealer for a check-up.

  • Again, this is a rare problem. It does not happen often.

  • There is a problem with the particulate filters.

  • The regeneration of the particulate filters happens every 200 km (124 miles).

  • When you drive only short distances, something goes wrong in the calculations

  • and things get clogged, which causes trouble.

  • You don't buy a car with a diesel engine to drive short distances,

  • so I think this problem doesn't occur in the Netherlands often,

  • especially because only 4 cars with a diesel engine are for sale at the moment.

  • The ASX has another problem.

  • It's not really a problem, but the target audience of the Mitsubishi ASX are elderly people.

  • Elderly people have trouble with spacial awareness, so check for parking damages.

  • A thing to watch out for with the 1.6 gasoline engine: in some cases it has issues starting.

  • When you want to start it again after 30 minutes of driving, it doesn't always cooperate.

  • There is a modification, a different camshaft gear, which is installed at the Mitsubishi dealer for free.

  • Check the car. Park it after a test drive and try to start it again before leaving.

  • When talking prices, etc.

  • See if it starts well.

  • That is all we can tell about the ASX.

  • A lot are for sale and most do not have a lot of miles on the clock,

  • so it can be an interesting second-hand car.

  • We borrowed the ASX we are driving today at Norbert Driessen,

  • the Mitsubishi dealer in Utrecht.

  • It has a 1.6 ClearTec gasoline engine.

  • It is the Intense edition, which means it has roof rails, a rear view camera,

  • and a glass sunroof which we closed because of the lighting.

  • It's there; we saw it.

  • It is a nice edition.

  • THIS CAR

  • If you're looking for a second-hand car and want our help, or if your company has a nice car for sale

  • for which we may shoot a video, please send an e-mail to tips@autoblog.nl
