  • - After two and half years

  • and three failed in vitros

  • then we had decided that,

  • okay enough is enough.

  • I woke up with an epiphany

  • that whether it was my own biological child or not,

  • all I wanted was just to be a mom.

  • - Initially we were going to adopt just one kid

  • and we ended up getting Elizabeth and Adam

  • which we both fell in love with.

  • - That's when I found out that I was pregnant,

  • May 23rd of '08

  • and that was just a spontaneous, miraculous thing.

  • - At one of our appointments,

  • her hormone levels weren't where they thought they should be

  • so they wanted her to come back in for further tests

  • and at that time,

  • they determined that it wasn't one baby

  • but it was actually two babies.

  • - We discovered that there is a second baby

  • and, oh by the way, they're identical twins (laughs)

  • It was about 8:30 that Sunday morning when I felt

  • that I wasn't feeling so great

  • and literally wasn't sure

  • cause I wasn't familiar with what contractions were.

  • I thought I'd call the nurse and let her know,

  • on-call nurse, she advised to just take it easy,

  • put your feet up, drink lots of fluids,

  • you know, try to get some rest

  • and if it persists, give me a call.

  • And I realized, these are contractions

  • and I called back and she said, you know at that point,

  • she told me, "You might as well go ahead and work your way

  • to labor and delivery, I'll get you pre-registered".

  • - Got to the hospital,

  • the prenatal room

  • and the doctor came in and said,

  • "You have 30 minutes before your babies are coming".

  • And that was pretty scary for both of us.

  • - You know, initially, I was kind of in a shock

  • and I wanted to cry but I couldn't cry

  • because I knew I needed to hold it together

  • but, you know, I had nurses that were massaging me

  • and soothing me and explaining that this is something

  • that was almost, for lack of better terms, normal for them

  • that they've seen this.

  • So I had to hold onto my faith

  • that everything was gonna be okay.

  • - Cynthia had twin baby boys,

  • Collin was two pounds four ounces

  • and Travis was two pounds five ounces.

  • They came into the NICU for respiratory distress

  • and they were cared for by a team of neonatologists

  • and nurse practitioners

  • as well as our incredible nursing staff

  • that we have here.

  • - The nurses, they made us feel like, "We are here for you,

  • "You are part of our team, rest assured

  • "That when you're not here,

  • "Your babies are being taken care of

  • "And this is what we do".

  • And they considered them their babies.

  • - Cynthia and Stephen were very dedicated to coming in

  • and participating in their babies'care.

  • They helped with feedings,

  • they helped with diaper changes,

  • they were very present with the care

  • that the babies received.

  • - From the beginning, they brief you on everything

  • that's going on

  • and then there's a schedule

  • and there's a process where they want you to

  • to hold the babies

  • they walk you through that whole process

  • so by the time you get home,

  • you know, you would have done everything,

  • you know how to do the temperature,

  • you know how to care for the baby.

  • - They're awesome,

  • they are officially not considered preemies.

  • They're climbing and crawling

  • and they've got teeth and they're trying to talk

  • and they're feisty little guys

  • with their own individual personalities.

  • - I really enjoy being a dad,

  • coming home and I give Adam his bath,

  • playing with the babies until they go down

  • and I read Elizabeth a book before she goes to sleep.

  • - I've had all my prayers answered,

  • all I've ever wanted since we got married was

  • to have a family.

  • We worked very hard to build a family

  • and all of a sudden it happened, you know,

  • in just a year's time.

  • A lot sooner and everybody says, you know,

  • "Oh we knew that when you guys would adopt,

  • "That you'd get pregnant".

  • And it's like, well nobody ever told us that!

  • And here we are,

  • and so I feel very complete,

  • literally everything else doesn't matter,

  • it's just family that we've so desired

  • we have, times four (laughs).
