for a special reception at Buckingham Palace on Monday night.
Kate and William first time hosted a reception to mark the UK-Africa Investment Summit at
Buckingham Palace, amid Meghan Markle and Harry 'step back' was confirmed.
Pictures from the event show how Kate Middleton confident with Sophie Wessex, a body language
expert has claimed.
While Megxit has shaken the monarchy to its core, Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge
put on a brave face as she greeted guests at the UK-Africa Investment Summit reception
with Sophie Wessex.
The Duchess of Cambridge and the Countess of Wessex were spotted charming attendees
during a reception to mark the UK-Africa Investment forum alongside respective husbands Prince
William and Prince Edward as well as Princess Anne.
The pair were spotted amicably chatting with Tunisia's acting minister of Foreign Affairs
Sabri Bachtobji when suddenly both Kate and Sophie burst into laughter after the Duchess
of Cambridge admitted one of her skills "needs practice."
Video from the reception shows Kate, dazzling in a red Thread and Needle frock, putting
her hand to her chest as she turns to face Sophie and Minister Bachtobji.
The Duchess of Cambridge is then seen moving closer to her companions and saying: "Sorry,
I need to practice my French, Sophie."
Her admission had the Sheik smiling while Kate slightly arched back due to laughing,
with Sophie joining in the laughter after the politician thanked them for their time
and left.
Kate and Sophie can then be heard exchanging a few more words in a lower tone of voice
while still laughing at the Duchess' admission before moving on to talk with the President
of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The Duchess of Cambridge revealed in the past she speaks a bit of French as well as some
Italian after spending a year in Florence during her gap year.
Kate Middleton put on a dazzling display as she joined Prince William at the UK-Africa
Investment Summit at Buckingham Palace tonight.
The Duchess of Cambridge, 38, opted for a glittering £410 red gown from high end high-street
store Needle & Thread for the evening reception - a brand also loved by Princess Beatrice.
The mother-of-three's showstopping gown featured silver shimmering sequins inspired by vintage
lace tablecloth - and she complemented her outfit with a pair of Gianvito Rossi heels
costing £510.
Several members of the Royal Family, including the Queen, Prince William and Prince Charles,
are fluent in French and both Prince George and Princess Charlotte are believed to have
been taking French classes at school. The two royals are also reported to have picked
up some Spanish from their nanny, Maria Borrallo.
Body language expert Judi James explained Kate stayed professional for the majority
of the reception, having been spotted laughing with Sophie as well as chatting amicably with
several of the guests.
Ms James told: “Like the Queen, Kate's signature charisma involves continuity, meaning
she tends to provide unchanging body language that is always upbeat, smiling and professional.”
The body language expert added: “Her personal sadness at Harry's exit must be quite deep
as the pair always seemed close, with Harry making Kate uncharacteristically giggly on
many royal outings.
“But her overall demeanour as she supports her husband on his first solo hosting spot
at the palace looks as calmly smiling as always.
“In between the smiles and laughter, though, there are a couple of glimpses of a sadder,
more reflective facial expression, both in the car and just before she enters the room
to go on the royal 'stage', that might reveal some clues about her true emotions.”
Ms James added: "It's obvious the Queen has sent her A-team to back him though, with
a very smiley Princess Anne and Prince Edward plus a very watchful and supportive-looking
Sophie Wessex, who seems to be bolstering Kate via some friendly chat.”
Kate and Prince William already increased the amounts of engagements they carry out
in preparation for their future roles as leaders of the Royal Family and the departure of Harry
and Meghan could have the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge take on even more duties to help
the Queen.
On January 27, the couple will attend the UK Holocaust memorial to mark the 75th anniversary
since the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
