  • -The opposite of Donald Trump is an Asian man who likes math.

  • You're allowed to laugh, we're not recording, right?

  • I was a skinny Asian kid growing up in upstate New York

  • in an all-white town, I got a lot of heat from classmates

  • about being the only Asian kid.

  • So I heard a lot of \"chink,\" \"gook.\" It certainly made me

  • wanna look out for the underdog.

  • I'm very proud of my own heritage. I'm proud of

  • the fact that I'm the first Asian-American man to run for

  • president as a Democrat.

  • But my identity is a very secondary or tertiary or

  • marginal aspect of my candidacy, and when I go to Americans

  • around the country they don't care what race I am, they

  • just care about my vision for the country and how we're going

  • to improve their lives and the lives of their family members.

  • This tribalism that's tearing our country apart,

  • it's related to a dysfunctional economy.

  • I'm running for president in 2020 and my job is to solve

  • the problems that got Donald Trump elected.

  • He won, in my opinion, because we'd automated away four

  • million manufacturing jobs in the swing states. And now, what

  • we did to the manufacturing jobs we're going to do to retail

  • and call centers and truck driving and the rest of it.

  • My flagship proposal of Freedom Dividend would put a $1,000 a

  • month in the hands of you and every American adult during the

  • age 18. Twelve thousand dollars a year. So this is what I call

  • the trickle up economy, and if you think the Freedom Dividend

  • is too good to be true, this has been with us since the

  • country's founding.

  • Thomas Paine was for it,

  • [he] called it the Citizen's Dividend.

  • Martin Luther King was for it, in 1967 he called it the

  • Guaranteed Minimum Income.

  • The Democratic Party wants to empower women. Instead of

  • talking about empowering women we should do something about it.

  • We know that there are millions of American women around the

  • country who are stuck in exploitative or abusive jobs or

  • relationships that would be improved simply by putting a

  • thousand dollars a month into their hands.

  • So that's the Freedom Dividend and there's nothing stopping a

  • majority of citizens in a democracy from declaring

  • ourselves a dividend. It will make us stronger, healthier, and

  • will help us all prepare for the economy of the

  • 21st century.

  • -White nationalists are supporting you online, why do

  • you think they're drawn to your candidacy?

  • You know it's been a point of confusion, because I don't

  • look much like a white nationalist.

  • -[Laughter]

  • I think people, probably, can catch onto the fact that like,

  • you know, I'm the son of immigrants and the last thing I

  • have is a white nationalist agenda. I'd rather not have

  • their support. That said, we have to solve the problems for

  • all Americans and the fact that different types of people from

  • different points of the political spectrum are excited

  • about my campaign is something that I'm encouraged by because

  • if we're going to beat Donald Trump in 2020 we need to get not

  • just progressives and Democrats but also independents,

  • libertarians, conservatives and Trump voters.

  • We'd love to have you join the campaign. Our average donation

  • online is only $19. My fans are even cheaper than Bernie's.

  • This is a very very cheap gang to join. Go to Yang2020.com,

  • donate a few bucks and I'll see you at the debate stage, but

  • let's make this case for a human-centered economy, together.
