  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 205. The idiom today is my lips

  • are sealed. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here.

  • This idiom basically means that I will not tell anyone this secret. This alludes

  • to the idea of someone having a zipper on one's mouth and will keep it closed.

  • Okay. It is like you are saying no secrets will escape. No secrets will

  • escape this mouth. No, they won't get out. It is often followed with body language.

  • Yeah. So a lot of times when people say my lips are sealed. They'll often pretend to

  • go like this. Almost like they had a zipper on their mouth, and they're

  • closing and they will not let any of these secrets get out. So no one will

  • ever find out about this. So very often somebody might say you know you have to

  • promise not to tell. You have to promise not to tell this secret, and they say don't

  • worry, don't worry, my lips are sealed. And then will often say it that way. All

  • right. Anyway, let's look at some examples here. Number one. Don't worry your secret

  • is safe with me. My lips are sealed. Okay, and again they probably use the

  • body language like that. I promise I will not tell anyone my lips are sealed.

  • All right. That's example number two, and the third one. The all-girl pop group, the

  • Go-Go's. Yeah, they were very popular in the 1980s. All-girl group means every

  • member of the band was a female. I remember in those days that was you

  • know that was that was a big thing. They were one of the first groups like that

  • where you know it wasn't just the lead singer that was female, the whole entire

  • group, everybody playing all the instruments was female so. The all-girl

  • group called the go-go's had a big hit in the 1980s called \"Our Lips Are Sealed' and

  • they they had a lot of big hits, But this was one of their first ones, And of

  • course you know again this is in reference to meaning that they will keep

  • secrets. They won't tell any of the secrets. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it's

  • clear. Thank you for your , for your time. Bye-bye.
