Okay… so it's hard to capture the awe and wonder of using 18th-century technology to float above the earth's natural beauty, and civilization's modern advancements. But up here you might find yourself at a loss for words, too. Most balloon tours launch around sunrise or sunset, when the air is coolest and the winds calmest. Thankfully, these times of day happen to coincide with views like this: The only other place you'll see these sights is in a cramped, noisy airplane. But in a hot-air balloon... there's no turbulence, no rumbling jets. Just you and your fellow adventurers, drifting on the wind. Looking down on houses the size of postage stamps, and cars floating along the highway like beetles caught in a brook. If you're queasy about heights, stick towards the middle of the basket, and look out towards the horizon instead of straight down. And if you don't naturally grow feathers, dress in layers. It gets chilly up here.
