Do you ever wish you could figure out how
to solve one of these things [The Rubik's

Gerund

Cube]? Well after watching this video, consider
your Problem Solved!

This video is for anyone who has absolutely
no idea what they are doing with a Rubik's

Cube. All you need is a desire to learn how
to solve it

Before we actually get into solving this cube
there's two things I want to teach you real

fast. The first are the three types of pieces
a cube has. First, you have these centers

with one color, edges with two colors, and
corners that have three colors on them. Now

in order to solve the cube we are going to
be looking at these center pieces which never

move and therefore tells us which color the
side will be when the cube is solved. So when

the cube is solved this side will be all white,
all green, all orange, so on and so forth.

Now to solve the cube we are going to take
each of these individual pieces and match

up all their colors like this one. This is
a white-red edge piece so we're going to match

up the red with the red and the white with
the white. Once you do that kind of thing

with every piece on the cube, then it's solved!
Now the way that we solve the cube is using

algorithms, just a series of steps, and these
are written by labeling each face with a letter

and then having a superscript to tell you
how to turn that face. So this face right

here is the Up layer, and that's going to
be labelled with a "U". "D" for Down. "R"

for Right. "L" for Left. "F" for front, and
"B" for Back. Now if you see just the letter,

like just a "U" that means turn it clockwise.
If you see a little "1", a little tick-mark

that means turn it counter-clockwise [anti-clockwise].
And if you see a "2", turn it twice.

So over here to the right you are going to
see three things. You're going to see the

"Set-Up", 'Algorithm", and "Glitches" sections.
This is how I'm going to break up each step

in the solve. The set-up explains the moves
or things that you have to do before the second

step, the Algorithm will work. Then the Glitches
section explains special cases that you have

to address even before the you can even get
the Set-Up to work.

Now we can start solving the cube! The first
step is to to make a cross on the bottom.

Now you can do this with any color but we're
going to start with White, just for simplicity's

sake. So start by taking this white center
piece and put it down in the bottom. Now our

goal with making this white cross is to make
it look kinda like this, where we have literally

a cross, with all these edges matched up.
Now in order to do that, we're going to start

looking in the top layer for any edge that
has white. We have two here, we're going to

use this one for now. Now we are going to
look at the other color on this white edge

piece, in this case it's Orange, and we're
going to put it right above that center, so in this

case right here, orange is above orange. Now
we're going to do a F2 in order to put it

down. Ta-da! and that one worked. Sometimes,
like with this piece, we have green as the

other color, so we're going to put it above
the green center piece, so sometimes when

we do this F2, we notice this piece is backwards
and so that's where we have to use the special

algorithm that you see on the *bottom. Now
the way that this algorithm works is you take

this piece and move it right over to this
position right here using the F layer, like

that. Now this D layer where this piece was,
is going to slide over, now this is going

to drop down, and you're going to put the
piece back. And that solves this piece without

messing up the rest of your cross. Sometimes
when you're working on your cross you'll notice,

it's not done, but when I look in the top
layer I can't find any of these edges [with

white]. Now that means one of two things,
either you have an edge stuck in the bottom

layer in the wrong spot, or you have an edge,
stuck in the second layer. Now this one's

the easiest to fix, you just do a F2 to pull
it out the same way that you would normally

put a piece in. Now you can then go ahead
and solve it, put it above its center piece

and then do a F2 to bring it down. Now this
one that's in the second layer, you have to

use what's called the trigger move, and a
trigger works by doing "up, over, down, back."

And that will pull that out of the second
layer into the top layer. You can then go

ahead and solve it as normal.
Our next step in solving the cube is to solve

our 1st layer, which will end up looking like
this. Now in order to do that we solve each

of these corners, this one is solved, and
this one is solved. Now in order to solve

these what we have to do is to find one in
the top layer like this one, that has white

on it, look at the three colors on it, white,
orange, and blue, and first figure out where

this piece goes. Now in order to do that,
we put a finger on each of these center pieces:

white, orange, and blue. White, orange and
blue. Now when we pull our fingers together

we notice that our fingers are resting on
a spot, that spot that our fingers are resting

on is where this corner goes, and we have
to put the corner above that spot. White,

orange, blue. White, orange, blue. Okay, now
we can use the algorithm, which is just the

trigger move that you just learned. Up, Over,
Down, Back. Now you may have to repeat that

up to five times in order for that to happen.
Now sometimes, you're going to notice that

your first layer isn't done, but you can't
find any corners with white on them in the

top layer. That means you have a corner stuck
in the bottom layer. Now in order to pull

this out just to the trigger move again to
pull it out. Up, Over, Down, Back. Now you

can solve it as normal.
You're doing a great job! You have one layer

complete! Now the next step is to solve the
second layer, which looks like this, notice

two rows all the way solved. Now in order
to do that, we're going to look for a piece

in the top layer that doesn't have this center
color, in this case yellow, so we're going

to look for a piece that looks like this one,
it doesn't have yellow on it, that's good!

Now if you'll notice, we have these "Little
Ts" that have been made by our first layer

and the center piece. Now we want to look
at this front color, the color that's on the

side of this piece, this is blue. You want
to match that up so you get this "Big T",

just like that. Now the second thing we need
to know before we can use an algorithm, notice

there's two of them, is which direction this
piece goes to. Now the way that we find out

where this piece goes is similar to the [1st
layer] corner. We have a blue and a red, put

a finger on the blue and the red, pull them
together, and that's where this piece goes.

Blue, Red. So this piece goes to the right
of where it is now, so we're going to use

the "right" algorithm. Now both of these algorithms
actually work very similarly. They both start

by turning the piece away from where it needs
to go, then you do a trigger (in this case

since it's the "right" algorithm, we'll do
the right trigger: Up, Over, Down, Back),

then we're going to bring this piece that's
in the right over, turn the top layer to the

right, and then back down into the right,
just like that. Now we look for another piece,

like this one, again it doesn't have yellow,
look at the side color, blue, and we make

this "Big T." Now we are going to ignore these
just so you can see that "Big T." Now we know

this one is blue and orange, blue orange,
they go right here, so that goes to the left,

so we'll use the left algorithm. Again, we
turn it away, use a trigger, but this time

it's the left trigger: Up, Over, Down, Back.
Bring this piece that's in the left over to

match up, turn the top layer to the left,
and front layer back down inserting that to

the left. So sometimes while you're solving
your second layer you're going to look and

you're going to say, "I don't have any edges
that don't have this top color, yellow." That

means that you have some that are stuck. That
will look like this where the pieces are backwards,

or it could end up looking like this where
a piece is just in the wrong spot either way,

to solve either of these cases use the same
method. You just pretend that this piece would

go here or here. You just use the algorithm
that you did before, in this case the right

algorithm, and this piece has been pushed
out. You can look at the side color, green,

match it up to make your "Big T", and then
you can solve it as normal.
